Hi all. Need recommendations for an android box. Mostly will be used for kodi (exodus, live sports, movies etc), YouTube as these are the basic stuff that I need.
Got astro already. But maybe there are boxes that can help replace astro? Not a priority though.
Budget probably less than rm300. Rm200 better.
TIA

Thanks for some of the replies guys. A suggestion to make an info post at the first TS post.
Anyways did some reading as suggested and came across some info like the s905 and s912 chip that's mostly used on the boxes nowadays.
But I also found out about the mibox 3 pro/extended which uses Mediatek MT8693 and it blows the other chipset out of the way (based on benchmarks). Anyone here using mibox 3 pro? Planning to get one soon...

QUOTE(voncrane @ Jan 26 2017, 01:27 AM) Dedicated Xiaomi MiBox thread + keyword searched... FYI, I'm yet to explore the latest Global Mibox and would advice you steer clear of the older hardware. Especially, if you plan to max Kodi on it. Reported issues. Yup, read reviews about the older mibox and the reviews are so-so only. But the new pro/extended version has really good benchmarks. Only thing is have to root to get google play/services.

QUOTE(voncrane @ Jan 26 2017, 04:48 PM) If that's the case, try to get the one that ships with the Global ROM and or built for the USA market. That supports Google’s services (Playstore, movies, etc). I'm not a fan of it only having 8GB storage. The storage is expandable though?

QUOTE(voncrane @ Jan 27 2017, 06:00 AM) Internal storage is much faster than an attached USB 2.0 drive. I see. Does that mean games/apps/movies will load slower? Does it have a big difference?

Thanks for the info ya all. So use expanded storage for low activity stuff. Probably for storing movies, pics etc. And use internal storage for high memory apps like games etc... Have i got this right?

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Jan 27 2017, 03:46 PM) that would be in the details. every box is diff - diff chipset, diff firmware, diff rules on things on partitioning, i/o, reserve, backup, etc. u need to ask the users of the specific box to be sure, perhaps in the mibox thread. Gotcha. Which Android box would you recommend though? Hopefully you don't mind me asking as I would like to ask someone's who's experienced in this matter. 1 would be without a budget. And 2 for budget under rm500.

Need some advice from the pros. I've done some research and i see that the main competitors here for android boxes are Minix, HiMedia and mibox. I've narrowed down to 2 choices which are the neo u1 (better 16gb storage) and mibox pro (better mt8693 a-73 chip and benchmarks).
That said these 2 are based on android OS and not android TV OS. I think that mibox 3c (not pro version) is based on Android TV OS. Are there any advantages of getting the TV OS version over the Android OS? other than the looks and feel that is.
If the advantages of the TV OS makes a difference, i might have to rethink my options.

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Jan 30 2017, 12:16 PM) isn't mibox 3c 1/4gb? some of us think even mibox 3s 2/8gb hasn't got enough memory. Yes. That's right. My mistake. It's the 3s which I think has the TV OS

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Jan 30 2017, 12:19 PM) that is correct. it is the same tv os in smart tv's google androidtv. the advantages are youtube, netflix will be capable of 4k output. If the TV OS is just advantage YouTube 4k output, I might as well go for Android boxes based on Android OS. Leaning towards mibox 3 pro now if for Android OS as could probably root and install custom rom in the future (maybe Android TV OS as i saw someone done it at YouTube). The 8gb doesn't really bother me as I will use it mostly for streaming kodi etc...

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Jan 30 2017, 09:20 PM) i hope u have read and been following this and the KODI thread closely, assured the box will be fine for u. I think that 8gb should be enough for me. I have kodi on my phone as well and it takes less than 1gb total with exodus, Phoenix, a few sport addons etc. Unless Android boxes uses a different type of storage system than Android phones? Does it store other some extra data?

QUOTE(fruitie @ Dec 30 2016, 12:46 PM) http://www.lazada.com.my/docooler-m9s-pro-...g-12523279.htmlThis one. Wow, price increased so much!! I bought on 12.12 for 202.65 after discount from actual price - 230.28. Plus, I have another 5% cash back from my credit card, so I paid less than RM 200. Still got cheaper deal from other sellers: http://www.lazada.com.my/docooler-m9s-pro-...g-12472624.html and http://www.lazada.com.my/docooler-m9s-pro-...g-16684188.html I was thinking of getting the neo u1 or mibox 3 pro. But then I saw your post and tempted by it as it has better price and much better storage. Throws another option in the works. How's the docooler box doing for you? And I'm curious why you didn't go for some other popular options/brands that are mentioned here, if you don't mind me asking?

QUOTE(voncrane @ Feb 7 2017, 08:14 PM) Use individually? Yes. Simultaneously? Difficult to achieve as it depends on the usual lot of factors. Headset compatibility, third party app (usually supplied by the headset maker), box's hardware and firmware.. Summary: do the test yourself and if it works..cool.. else, To use simultaneously that is. Box is minix u1 if that info helps? Don't want to buy 2 Bluetooth headsets and find out later that it can't be used simultaneously. Maybe just buy cheapo ones to test first lol.

QUOTE(voncrane @ Feb 8 2017, 12:21 AM) No guarantee that where cheapo one works, expensive ones will work too OR if cheapo doesn't work, doesn't mean that the expensive ones will not either... QUOTE(BOTAK_WAI @ Feb 8 2017, 12:33 AM) How about box onboard bluetooth connect to 1 headset, and use another 3.5mm to bluetooth adapter to connect another headset? Not sure if it works or not…lol QUOTE(VeeJay @ Feb 8 2017, 03:36 PM) Interesting concept...hmmm would it work on PC, have you tried it? I've decided to buy bluedio headset that has an audio out, so i can use another headset and plug it in to the bluedio headset to share music/movies with partner. It's this one : http://m.11street.my/productdetail/bluedio...reless-19931922Not expensive as well and from reviews the sound is quite good too. Build quality is not that good though so might have to be alittle careful with it. A compromise I'm willing to take considering the price.

Got myself the neo u1 + a1 air mouse. Installed kodi 17 Amlogic version and it works quite well. No issues so far.
Anyways, was wandering if anyone done a comparison of u1 vs Himedia q5/Q10 pro? Any major difference? U1 is cheaper though and the a1 air mouse has a good review all around as well.
