Hi Sifus,
Am a novice on Android TV box. Saw Lazada offering MXQ Pro 4K Amlogic 905 at RM139.00, wonder if it is a good buy for a beginner like me?

Price is acceptable for a beginner..cuz if the box ends up not so good or you decide using a droid box isn't your style.. at least the cost won't hurt so much ..

LOL - thanks for the advise. Anyway, taking advantage of a further credit card discount of 10%, I took the plunge.
Going explore the world of KODI.

I have bought one unit of this MXQ PRO S905 4K 8GB Quad Core Android 5.1 with 1GB Ram and only using it for Kodi and some stand alone apks like HKTV, Mobdro, Popcorn Time. For some reason, Showtime doesn't work, maybe I have to delete and re-install it. It also have Miracast which I successfully connected it with my Samsung Note 4. So far, it is working smoothly for me. The seller installed quite a lot of kodi addons but most of them are not working. I deleted most of them and put in new addons without any problems. Oh! buy a wireless mouse to use as it will be easier. Lazada selling one (wireless mouse) which is only RM15.00 only, I'm using that too.
I have not played any games on this so I do not know how it fares with games.

If you spend a little more, you might consider getting a better one which is the Beelink mini MXIII-II with 2GB Ram and 16GB Rom. Redskull recommends this quite highly. See his review here :- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hd1GI64KYvs. I have bought one from Gearbest for my niece and just received it. Will be setting up the set for her when I'm free.

I'm not an expert on Android Box but just sharing as I am using the box also. I hope it helps you.

Hi Sifus, need some advice.

My Beelink MINI MXIII II disconnects the WIFI connection by itself and doesn't automatically connects back again. I need to reconnect it manually.
Any ideas on this? Or it is because of one of my many apk's that is causing this?
Any advise would be welcomed.

No, I'm using a TP Link router

Doubt it's a rogue app.. Check your home network..

The funny thing is that I had previously the same type of box which I had set up for my niece, been running it for over a month at the same place before I handed over to her and that box did not disconnect by itself.
I have 2 other another boxes, MXQ Pro and ZIDOO X1 II, both running fine but then again both of these boxes are quite near the router. Is the Beelink MINI MXIII II prone to poor wifi reception? I'm subscribing unifi 30Mbps, I have run the speed test on the box and only got at best around 10Mbps. On my Note 4 at the same area, I've recorded full 30Mbps speed.

hmm.gif  We still can't rule out a home network issue and I take it that, running an Ethernet cable is not desirable based on the location. Could be, that location is considered a non-optimal area from your router. Example, there's a particular spot at my place (outskirts of the router's reach) where an iPad can retain a wifi connection but can't connect to the internet.... and after awhile, it will disconnect itself or I'm forced to manually disconnect it.. if I attempt manually connecting back to the network, it simply refuses, despite listing the same network as a selectable choice. Now, if I move closer to or stay in the same room as the router, this iPad suffers no such issues and will stay connected 24/7. On the other hand, internet works perfectly when using a Nexus tablet or smartphones in the same problematic location as the iPad.

So in a way, it could be the box or it's simply too far away from the router and suffers from too much interference. Issue persists while using the 2.4ghz network?
*
Yes, am using the 2.4ghz network.
I'll try to move the box to another closer location to see whether it will disconnects again.

Question: How to know whether my TP Link router is capable of 5ghz?
By the way, my TP link router should be about 4 to 5 years old. Not sure if it capable of 5ghz or not.
Let's say it is capable, does it runs concurrent 2.4 and 5ghz or do I need to set it?
What would be a good recommendation for a reasonable cost router capable of 2.4 + 5ghz network and also compatible to use with Hypptv?

the problem u describe happens if the connectivity is consistently weak.

i assuming all of yr 3 boxes are on wifi.

u can swap them around to see if the problem is distance, line of sight or box hardware/firmware.

Thanks guys for your help!

my boxes, 30mbps, asus router - good connection at 50 ft.
*
Only 2 boxes on wifi, both in rooms. The one outside connects on ethernet cable.
Ya, I try to move it to another place to see if the problems persist or not.

Your idea of reasonable cost is different from mine.. Majority of the routers from a few years back are capable of handling both both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, independently or simultaneously. All routers are not equal and performance depends on your network environment and it's requirements. Visit the Networks and Broadband section for more. Can't discuss such here.

Will look it up on the Network and Broadband section.
Thank you very much for your help.
