powerline adaptor... sd content maybe ok... i am skeptical for hd content.

just don't end up spending more money! tongue.gif

Powerline works for HD as well. Even my old AV200 limited by its 100 mbps lan port can play all HD / bluray files perfectly - even the very high bitrate ones.

But of course powerline tech depends on a lot of other factors as well such as how old your wiring is and whether all your power sockets are on the same electrical phase.

Now with even higher level AV1200 and gigabit ports, can easily get 300+mbps. Can easily stream 4K content (if you have any)

If you only want to stream HD/Bluray, just get the cheaper older models and test it out. Can always sell them if it doesn't work. You will lose a bit money but believe me, if it works for you, it will be just wonderful - No more wifi issues!

thanks for comments.

i have read some very different comments but i never had the need as my wifi streaming does the job.

one thing - when you say powerline works for HD, do you mean playback or online streaming or both?
for both hd video and hd audio?

I meant for local file playback, for bluray we're talking about 40 - 50GB bluray files which include DTS HD MA or Dolby TruHD audio streams. Streaming is not an issue coz it's highly compressed and usually requires <30mbps.

IMHO powerline works wonderfully. The only issue is you house wiring condition, which means that you will only know whether it works once you test it out. For new developer built houses, it will always work. For older houses with some customised wiring over the years, its a hit & miss. There could also be some issues with electrical noise interference when the microwave is on, but I have not encountered any of it personally.

Also, if you're into online gaming, the ping is as almost as good as wired ethernet. Wifi really sucks at this. So I always have a good combination of wired, powerline and a good router to get the best out of everything.

Do you recommend to replace the Maxis router that came with the fibre internet? I find the signal to be weak from the living room to the bedroom.

Stock router from ISPs are usually low-end ones with low throughput and small range. If you need stronger signal with higher range, get a better router.

Asus has some good ones but the models are quite expensive. TP-link has some good ones which are more reasonably priced. I would recommend TP-link's Archer 7 if you need wireless AC. Asus AC68 is also very good but about double the price of the TP-Link.

Minix 8-h plus was super duper awesome.. user friendly/a2 lite remote works perfectly/fast response.

But as you said yeah.. cable might be suitable rather than stock orange unifi router unless i opt for dual AC router.. tried streaming movie 'focus' via kodi and it buffering like nobody business..
I lived in single storey house. Does powerline suitable for me? range between my tv box vs unifi router =/- 15~20  feet.. both areas end to end got power plug.. i'm not into pulling Ethernet cables end to end.. it will be messy..  sweat.gif

Like I said in my post, it may or may not work for you depending on your electrical wiring. If you don't know the history of the wiring in your house, it will be trial & error. IMO, the risk is quite low in your case as it is most probably single phase so powerline will likely work but depending on the circuitry, it may be faster or slower.
