i new to KODI, it is all "free to watch" ??
*
The KODI open source software is simply a media player. What you choose to play in it, relies heavily on you. No discrimination between "free" and "paid" sources/content.

wanna know is this steps in this link good to use? or better to install one by one?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_NbmSAzyPo
*
That depends on your preferences. Do you prefer;
1. A clean & truly personalized system... Install addons one by one.
2. A pre-configured build to tweak later..... Install said build.
Either way, KODI is quite flexible and will allow you to debloat, tweak settings and add or remove sources, etc.

Hey guys

I'm planning to buy android TV box / Chromecast. I have Unifi 20mbps. Which one is the best? I can't torrent as I don't own a laptop/PC.

a) Buy New Gen Chromecast
b) Android TV box - TV box (1) TV box (2)

Usage - watch Hollywood movie and football match (Malaysia, England and Champs League)

I only watch movie one or twice a week/month. Mostly play games when I got free time

Budget around RM500 hmm.gif

If you have other suggestion do let me know. Posted in /k but no one layan over there biggrin.gif

The silver colour one. Later I got home I will double check but the Hypptv box is at the living room. I plan to pull LAN cable to my room (or maybe can use wifi) and connect to my TV in my room upstairs.

My housemate always sleep at living room in front of tv. I don't feel comfortable to watch tv if he is sleeping. Prefer to have my own TV box.

Anyone here have any experience with Nexus Player? Very interested in slick user interface, but my main usage is to replace astro. Can anyone here try sideloading myiptv apk on this device, to see if it works properly? Search around on this subject yield nothing useful, so I thought I asked here smile.gif

While KODI can be made to run on the Nexus Player, you are probably better off buying a conventional Android box as the Nexus Player is running a heavily customized/optimised, on an OS level & otherwise version of Android called "Android TV". So even if you were able to sideload most normal android apps, there's no guarantee it'll display or function properly on the Nexus player. Currently it even has its own separate Android TV Play Store filled with a limited number of approved by Google for Android TV apps.

I know it doesnt optimized, which is why I asked in the first place, to see if anyone managed to run it ;P I just can't stand all the laggy/ugly user interface of all theandroid box in the market at the moment.

I am kinda noob here, but is Kodi=MyIPTV? I though myiptv is the app we used to view astro channel after paying some kind of subscription, where the apk is downloadable? What does it have anything to do with Kodi?

LOL!!

TM said they have special promo for Unifi 5mbps. I'm still using streamyx so they said will give me new modem, dect phone, tv box, wiring blah blah blah. Maybe I will try the 5mbps first before terminating Astro and if streaming not okay, then only consider 30mbps.  biggrin.gif
*
5mbps has been discontinued. Are you sure they are offering you 5mbps? How much is the subscription?

Ugly interface?.... Install a custom launcher, it's android and there are tons... Customize to your liking.
Laggy UI?... Sorry bro, you must have been checking out crappy boxes. Fast boxes exist... Read this thread & visit YouTube videos & box reviews.
KODI.... It's an app that acts as a media center. It's just a shell and needs to be setup.. Input = Output... Once again Google & YouTube, a dedicated KODI thread also exists here on Lowyat forums. Know exactly what you are getting into.. NO media box.. Android, Android TV, IOS, etc box can 100% duplicate what the current Astro box does and with its ease. Why? Cuz Astro, Hypptv, etc are legit and licensed... Others like MyIPTV, Tvapp, CloudTV, IPTV Stalker, etc are not, also not reliable and can be shutdown at any time by the authorities despite having paid for them. You probably already know this, just telling anyway.

I'm currently using SquareHome.Tablet (Launcher). Many themes to choose from & quite flexible. Previously used Nova Launcher, which is still quite good & fast to operate. But wanted a more Media Center look.

I might not be searching hard enough, but can you share few of the customised UI that you like? Saw some on youtube, they have these "china-made" feeling to them. And the icon arrangement are all over the places, and I couldnt imagine that sort interface cluttering my TV.

Yeah I am aware of the myIPTV and other similar service limitation. I am not that big on watching TV these days, so they are not that critical, but I do want some option just in case someone come over, or I have a need to watch something. My TV are mostly for gaming, and ahem movies.

about the ui/desktop, not to worry. what u saw, those "ugly" china ui's - are default ones from manufacturer for chinese made android boxes. it is easy to change to another ui of yr own choice by just downloading from playstore. some are free, "pro" versions cost a bit. i use free ones, happy enough.

if u are not planning to spend time on the tv or the box, i do not think u should buy any of these boxes. becos these boxes require time and effort to maintain - update firmwares, install/reinstall apps, etc. they are software driven unlike astro box or dvd player which are hardware driven. if you use it once a month, high chance that 3 out of 5 apps will need update and u can't put on anything nice when you want it!

I know right... Nthg against "China-made" feel tongue.gif ,as practically all such devices are actually made in China. nod.gif I'm currently using SquareHome.Tablet launcher (link is a few posts above), other popular launchers includes Nova, Apex, Smart or Go Launcher. Some boxes do come with the ability to choose the manufacturer's version or stock vanilla android version.. Available in settings. Some launchers on Google Play Store. Unlike IOS where most are stuck with Apple's idea of what a home screen should look like, Android allows for nitpicking & customizations. So it's really up to your taste & preferences.

In addition to what @AVFAN wrote, sounds like you are good to go then. Personally, I was offered the Hypptv mega pack for free, so for news, the occasional programme & those special guests, I just hand em the remote smile.gif.

She told me RM149. Asked her to call back so I can have time to discuss with my family but she never did. So not sure if the promo is still ongoing.
