for eng movies, popcorn is among the best u can get.

it is torrent based, so it can consume anything from 2gb at any one time up to 8gb for the largest and best files.

to access those, u need min 16gb android which after the the usuals, leaves 8gb or so free.

an 8gb android may only have <4gb left free - u can only play some of the smaller 720p files in popcorn.

also, take note of the broadband speed requirements.

small files need only 200KBps, largest ones may need >800KBps.

so, it will need 10mbps (1250KBps) min to play the largest files, besides the android free memory requirement.
thx

i can only suggest u read a bit more, incl seller's section, seller threads, ask questions.
last word of advice, buy from a seller who can support u continuously, not just for the sale.
becos the device needs constant firmware upgrades, new apps, etc.
plus if new to androids, there r many things to learn.

To all who are interested in performance feedback of the Minix Neo X8-H Plus, feel free to drop by here and ask. Updated to latest firmware (Clean install). So far so good, setting up Kodi, apps etc. Fast, smooth and responsive UI. Tvapp.so doesn't work on it though, apparently the developer blocked access from popular TV boxes (works on my Nexus tablet). I'm working on a work around for that. Latest Kodi works effortlessly on it and able to pass through all sounds via spdif cable to the HT, like AC3, DD, DTS, DTS-HD & DTS-HD MA. Files with 7.1 DTS-HD/DTS-HD MA plays but audio gets down-mixed to 5.1. No proper receiver to confirm the down-mixing, but other users from the official forum say so. Possible future fixes in the works. Loving the CEC feature on it, less remotes on the table for control.
Confirmed apps working so far.
*Hypptv Everywhere (Tablet version)
*Showbox
*Mobdro
*Popcorn Time
*Movie HD
*iFlix.

Bro,
I have ordered the Minix Neo X8-H Plus last week and expected to be arriving at my doorstep today or tomorrow. This will be my 1st Android box, never use one before. WTA you several questions:

1. what do you mean by clean install of the latest firmware? Any special thing to do in order to do clean install?
2. The apps you mentioned like Hypptv Everywhere, Showbox, etc.... Those came preinstalled or I have to get them somewhere?
3. Any advise for noob user here?

Thanks bro....

1. By clean install, I meant that if the box isn't running the latest 006A firmware (20150708), best option for optimum results is to flash the firmware using USB flash tool included in the firmware downloaded. This will do a full wipe and give you a clean box. Subsequent firmware upgrades can then be done using the official OTA tool included in the firmware.
2. Apps aren't pre-installed but very easy to get. HyppTV Everywhere (tablet), iflix, Mobdro, Showbox, Popcorn Time, Movie HD
3. Hmmm, join the official Minix forum, customize Kodi to your liking, maybe get a keyboard+touchpad type remote or keyboard+mouse combo. I'm using the A2 lite mouse. Be careful though, over there on the forum, you have to read and search first before asking or creating a bug report, make posts in the right sections or it gets deleted (Yeah, they r strict like that). Know the capabilities of your box and don't throw tantrums if it can't do what you want it to do, like teleport you to the moon or something tongue.gif . Enjoy your box.

Hi Guys,

Do you know if can get any Apps installed on HiMedia Q16 ?
e.g. "France Tv Channels" from Play Store ?

I wish to get the French TV lah...

any of those below apps got French Channel ?
1. Tvapp.so - live tv; news, documentaries; movies; (and chi-jap-kor channels); in HD
2. Popcorn - movies; highest quality video by streaming due to larger files
3. MovieHD - movies, tv shows; fast, easy to use
4. Mobdro - int'l news; fast, easy to use
5. Kodi - when it is not available in the first 4, e.g. skynews, skysports

also can it replace My Media Player (Currently using Divco Tvix N1) ? Can just plug In 1-2 To External Hard Disk with Movies ?

Finally, Where can buy in Low Yat Plaza ?

Thanks Guys,
Cheers,

Aiolia

HiMedia is sold on 4th floor, at a table besides the Asus store (which itself is besides Thundermatch). The storekeeper is not around quite frequently. Or just go to Digital Mall and buy from 1st floor just next to the escalator. You will see a table in the middle showing lots of Minix, HiMedia boxes.

There are multiple languages supported, but English comes as default. I've never used any Himedia boxes before and so can't give a partial solution to you. My previous box was the Minix Neo X7 and a Noontec A9 box before that. As for apps like myiptv, cloudtv etc, they should work on the box, remember those require subscriptions and nothing is permanent. A well configured Kodi installation + torrents + other android apps will provide you with more than enough media content and live TV (as in my case, English content). I think when it comes to Himedia vs Minix, its a Chinese-ish vs English dilemma. There are a few Youtube vids showing reviews of both boxes to give you a sense of what they can do. So pick one based on your needs. My household primarily watches English content and Minix has a decent track record when it comes to firmware upgrades, bugs fixing and great online support. Plus i can root n unroot it easily. If you are unsatisfied with the review videos and prefer a more hands-on approach before deciding, I see @happyking4ever posted a location where you could possibly check out both boxes in person.

You r much welcome biggrin.gif . As for the noob thing, bro all experts were once noobs. It just takes a little learning to cover the basics and some more to become God-like... tongue.gif . KODI is a very impressive software and the devs have been doing their best to keep making it better and better based off today's and future hardware. I watch assteruk channels using ehem means and best part? Free!!. Got an iflix subscription to support them and hopefully they grow to support Netflix in Asian markets. I'm almost sure that hdtv and myiptv subscription sellers can give you their apk files to side-load on a Minx box once you pay for a subscription.
