Hi, thanks for the explanation!
Based on my understanding, apps are what I should be really looking at, and secondly, the hardware of the box.
@Voncrane, how much is the Neo U1? For the things I want to watch, I found sellers who said they can install it to the box (for Mi Box). Haven't found a seller who can do the same for Minix as of now...will continue to search around.
*
there are several ways to buy a box - online portals, LYN online sellers, retail outlets.

preinstalled apps - even online portals advertise "come with....".

u just need to know if the preinstalled apps and firmware are up-to-date, if they have what u want.

note u also need updates and new versions as time goes by, not static like decoders.

if u hv checked out mibox, can also ask other users to reconfirm a few things if u wish in this thread, esp if u do not know chinese language well.
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3561305/+460

you can see from the posts and threads in this section that the most popular ones are: minix, mibox, himedia. choice is usually decided by price, previous experience and seller support.

How much you bought it for? biggrin.gif

Mind tell me why did you chose HiMedia?

1st floor right beside the escalator? It is a small booth right? Do you have contact info for the seller?
*
I think when I bought it was around RM500 plus (Himedia Q16). So far it has served me well. But seems like MiniX is slightly better as it can also install iFlix, Himedia can't. I chose Himedia after reading through Low Yat forum and recommendations from bros here.

I can say Himedia, Minix and XiaoMi Box is the most discussed android box in low yat. So plenty of advice if you have problem. I would personnally recommend Minix, i think also about Rm500 plus now. You won't regret it. i don't have the contact but the seller post his shop in Low yat

Hi guys smile.gif

So now I have 2 options on hand... MiniX and Mi Box...

Am getting it for my parents, to watch HK drama and news (international and local)

The 2 options I listed seems to be having almost the same price...can anyone tell me what are the pros and cons of that 2?

Thanks a lot!!!

please avoid Mibox at all cost.

The Minix Neo U1 ranges from RM5xx - RM6xx, perhaps even more. It depends on what ships with the box itself. I strongly recommend that you purchase it with the Neo A2/A2 Lite airmouse remote, as it's very handy and has a long battery life. I'm also not a fan of the Mibox, especially if you plan to run Kodi efficiently.. would ask you to avoid it. It's still your decision to make, try to check out the Mibox & Kodi thread for complaints. biggrin.gif

i think i have shared in v1 thread. anyway, in short, you may have issue of memory shortage and most importantly, mibox doesnt support google playstore (though you may be able to jailbreak). but since your price for both minix and mibox are the same, better get minix.

u mean the box will have a workable viu tv in it?

from yr description, i gather it is the seller's preferred package.

i do not know this box, but from googling, ubox is just one of a hundred brands of such boxes.

however, for future purposes, i suggest u check if the box is 1/4, 2/8 or 2/16gb and if android version is 4.2, 4.4, 5.0, 5.1 or 6.0.

larger memory and newer android version is always better.

if you can confirm it works (i.e. with vpn to access viu tv) and that is what u want, then it's all about whether u accept the price or not.

then u should think about what are the risks of the vpn not working or terminated or viu decides to go paid iptv, no more free for anyone.

lastly, what about other uses with other apps - are they preinstalled, what u want, can get support later...

if it has everything u want and price is acceptable, u can surely consider.

They install an app called Cloud TV for you. You need to subscribe to it. I think USD 40 for 6 months etc, different pricing. It contains Astro. I sub to the 6 months package before, works ok. But picture quality and audio is so so only, so i no longer sub to it. Just using Kodi and Netflix
