can easily get 1080p, just don't think it mattered that much since it's like 20 mins, watch and discard. biggrin.gif

i only watch naruto shippuuden. very frustrated that they drag on the main story. i skip the fillers incl the current ones on itachi...

Understandable.. Naruto & Naruto: Shippuuden.. It all started with 480p for playback on a CRT TV, then Streamyx 1Mbps happened, moved up to 720p (Noontec A9 box) and later 1080p (Minix Neo X7) on Unifi.. Obviously, it was a pain having to spend more time downloading than actually watching the content .. I actually collect and store; have all the seasons + feature films, took awhile but it's all good.. biggrin.gif

Yeah, they've gotten really good (bad for us) at dragging the main story. Good cuz sometimes, they reveal something from a character's past that influences the present.. Some say it's due to how quickly the manga is released.. I usually download and watch in batches.. For example, paused watching in December and will resume say next month ending or early May.. That way, I'm able to skip as necessary..

i am curious about this hi10p and 10 bit.

a couple of people have asked before.

what is hi10p, what videos come in this format?

where is it commonly found? movies, games or home cameras?
at this time, i only know even the most advanced android box nividia shield does not have it.

will be good to know more what may come next...
*
hi10p (not standard) mostly anime

hevc 10 bit (open standard) can be found on blockbuster movies & anime

QUOTE(voncrane @ Mar 22 2016, 12:55 AM)
Software decoding is possible and afaik, hardware decoding is yet to be implemented. You have to understand that the demand for Hi10P support is very low as its a specific market, and as such, manufacturers aren't in a haste to implement such. Here's a contender:

Mainly anime files..

hi10p only bonus, but what about hevc 10 bit? i want to buy a box that can last years

done some research, and it seems Amlogic S905 (rev B) have *some* issue on hevc 10 bit, S905-H fixed it.

so far from what I know, upcoming Wetex Play 2S will feature this SOC..any other box have this SOC?

Tech changes and improves over the years.. For now, your best bet is probably an HTPC. Alternatively, you could wait some more.

480p max resolution.. Only Netflix certified devices can go higher than that.. Get a Google Chromecast (cheap option & 1080p) or a compatible smart TV or box...

To those interested in something different... Do check out the Wetek Core Android TV box. It streams Netflix at up to 1080p (official) and being official sponsors to the KODI development; it's a pretty decent KODI box.

Yeah, hardware limitations.. It's an okay recommendation for someone who's interested in a simple device for regular 1080p & 4K-ish files + IPTV services, dual-booting Android & OpenELEC and excellent up to date support. Who doesn't mind the lack of HD audio support; apparently, due to a restriction on Netflix's part, the box only gets 2.0 instead of DD 5.1.. The Wetek Core excels at handling refresh rates switching, providing super smooth playback, at least for the files it can handle..

Pricing in Malaysia? It's about $90 on Aliexpress.. So under RM400.

i tried to find out who wetek is. from the website and related, they seem pretty good at hiding their origins. my best guess is they are european, box made in china. like acryan, a dutch outfit which eventually sold out to a singaporean co.

from what i read, wetek is just another middle middle-of-the-road android box maker.

the audio offers suck, i can't accept since my 7 yr old ac ryan can pass thru hd audio.

price is ok.

i was hoping to find something better and bigger than nividia shield. sad.gif

I haven't bothered to figure out their origins but it's as you've mentioned; the site doesn't specifically give anything away.. Went on an on about stuffs. I'd guess Slovenians.. They should do fine as long as they stand by their products.. Much better than a vaguely branded box with little to no support once shipped out.

For a heavy hitter like you, of course the Wetek & Nvidia Shield isn't enough.. tongue.gif..

my comments:

.. 30mbps is very good; wifi is not a problem in yr case.
.. if u are only interested in eng, that is easy as most stuff available around the globe is eng, mandarin being #2.
.. live sports (esp in hd) will be a problem - these telecasts are big $, hard to get reliably for free.
.. hd only may be a problem - there are some tv channels that are easy to find in sd but not in hd for free.
.. yr hypptv from unifi... if not in use, use it - some shows are worth it.
.. ahem iptv - these are illegit stuff which we try not to discuss in public but u can pm the sellers.
.. yr smart tv has android built in. it can do more than youtube and browser. learn and try to put some more apps inside. the android in the tv works the same way as in an android box. diff is the memory, easy of handling and navigation. netflix works better on a certified smart tv than an uncertified box.
.. buying a standalone box has its benefits - can do more, can share knowledge with other users, get pre-installed stuff and help from seller.
.. take note - there is no box that will replace aztro. aztro is holding on to the biz with 2 things - proprietory live sports and canto channels. if u must hv either or both, it is going to be hard. but if u can live with pieces of alternatives, they are available.

overall, from yr description, i would suggest u:

1. use hypptv, get supersports channels (not as complete as those in aztro, though)
2. play around with the android in yr current tv - get help from a friend or neighbor, put in sa few apps and see if u like them.
3. check out netflix hd for yr tv; at rm42 pm, it is something u can consider - alto local contents rather limited, u get movies, tv shows, documentaries, kids stuff and food/cooking series - on demand only.
4. contact box sellers and ask for model suggestions, explore. i will not suggest any brand or model since for yr requirements, most will fit. just that if buying, do not buy the cheapest one. buy a higher end one - 2gb/16gb quad/octacore, lollipop 5.x - among the best available at this time.
hope above is useful, others will comment too. wink.gif

Hi thank you for your long generous reply. But i have few question more lol.

Many here said the best can get for sports for free only in SD right? Is there any sports channel in HD but need to pay? I dont mind paying only for sports if the monthly far less than what im paying for astro now.

I have problem in my hypptv setting to even try your suggestion. My tv is on the right wall but all my unifi hardwares(box, telephone, router) on the left wall of my living hall. So end up i never use the hypptv box because to connect it to tv using cable would use a very long cable and it will not look nice. Haha any idea to over come this?

So im more toward nvdia shield now. Is it a beginner friendly box?

And lastly i keep seeing u all using ahem ahem terms lol. Is it refer to illegal apps or xxx apps lol

Sports in HD can be gotten.. Question is how much one is either willing to cough up (RM) or time spent searching for stable sources.. Paid services are plenty.. Start with the garage sales section here on lowyat. Then there are IPTV providers like CloudTV, IPTV Stalker, cCloudtv, etc.. Those three have been in the game awhile & are alright.. I recently found this.. SkyLive.. Costs about $15 per month.. Others interested may try out & give reports.. However, you must understand this, using such services is illegal and they know it.. At any point, be prepared to lose thy money, experience downtime and risk of media cops busting down your door & placing you under arrest.. tongue.gif

To gain the Hypptv experience.. No choice, cable(s) must be run.. Hack the wall & hide it.. Run it at the bottom & paint over it or wallpapers, etc..

The Nvidia Shield TV box is alright.. It's beginner friendly as long as one is willing to learn..

Lastly.. "ehem", "ahem", "cough".. All mean the same thing.. Illegal apps like iptv apps.. xxx apps aren't popular here and rightly so, but they are available. brows.gif

voncrane said much of it.

hypptv - some people say there is a way to get it thru wifi but quality will deteriorate. i never tried, u can search around.

ahem = illegit iptv services. typically, u pay upfront for a month or a year, no guarantee. the fact that a no. exist says there are users. for that, u can search and pm the sellers.

if u r committed to spend time and learn all by yrself, keen to get netflix hd/uhd, nividia shield is just about the best u can buy. but since the price is about twice that of an average machine, u can also consider buying a cheaper one that have certain apps pre-installed by seller, can get help. but either way, u will still need to know at least the basics for longer term system and apps maintenance and updates. it is not a box that auto does things like an astro decoder.

i don't really know...

i hv only come across some live tv malay/indon language channels in kodi, e.g. phoenix.

vod... have not noticed.

generally, it takes enthusiasts to create and maintain any app or addon. and they do that only if the language is popular enough on global basis. i seriously doubt u will find much that works reliably for long. same will probably apply to thai, vietnamese, greek, etc.

if it for this reason much of the stuff on WWW is in english and mandarin.
