Thanks Sifu!

Checked and disabled all auto update except OTA.

Please clarify. I thought OTA (On The Air?) is to connect mobile etc to TV box then to TV. How will that cause it to update? Titanium Backup is an apps in Google?

Thanks.

OTA (Over The Air) or better known as FOTA (Firmware Over The Air).. Basically means the device is able to receive & apply firmware updates wirelessly.. Think like updating a Windows PC from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, updates are downloaded & run.. Core system files are replaced, etc.

Connecting mobile to TV box... Could be through mirroring, DLNA, casting, etc.

Titanium Backup is an app available in the Play Store. It's a powerful app that requires a rooted device with busy box for best performances.. It can be used to freeze apps so they don't run until after you unfreeze it. Think of it as disabling the app versus a complete uninstall. So in your case, if rooted, you can locate the OTA app & freeze it so it doesn't "phone" home.

Thanks!

Did not know that I have an ET (phone home) in my TV box! Ha.

ES File manager etc not good enough to do the job on OTA?

Will try to stop OTA and see.

Thanks.

I think they all died a natural death? Yeah they were damn expensive back when I started my interest in audio / video. mad.gif Boy am I glad I did not get them and jumped onto the HTPC bandwagon instead. Anyway if I'm not wrong, the Oppo BD-103 Darbee is still very much sought after till today.

Haha, nice ET reference there.. You'll be amazed the amount of user info that gets collected on such devices. But since it's mostly for media streaming, playback & perhaps some gaming in the living room.. It's negligible. ES File Explorer is my file manager of choice, but I don't believe it can freeze & unfreeze apps.

Hello all,

I'm quite new in the xbmc world .. just wondering is the new Hypptv Box/ (huawei) ( the white one ) can handle xbmc/ kodi app well?

I noticed that the hypptv wont allow any app to access the external SD card .. so the storage is quite limited.

For example at the moment I have installed Popcorntime app into the Hypptv box but it wont allow to buffer for a large File above 1.3GB saying no available space but I have a 32GB miniSD card installed. The ROM left around 1.2GB

Thanks for those who can help

Hypp box is a small limited android... older chipset, small memory. You probably can install a few small apps, kodi with just a few add-ons, nothing more. Popcorn will not work with those added cards. Hyppbox is for hypptv. Ok for learning. If u want full capability, get a box about rm500. Or a new smart tv that has a good android built in.

What AVFAN says.. Get a proper android box with at least 2GB RAM & 16GB ROM. That's if you are serious. TM chose such a limited box for a reason.. It does what it does & that's it.. Anything extra requires a lot more flex.gif flex.gif

Guys,

Need recommendation for first time user before im upgrade my streamyx to 4mbps.

Currently watching astro and downloading movies/tv series with soft subtitles.

I have free voucher for iflix and might sign up for netflix.

Kodi or bbmc and something similar not important but i might try to learn if have time.

Please recommend me an android box as cheap as possible coz i might not like it or the streamyx speed is killing my box.

Thanks.

True.

I can upgrade my box if streaming is smooth. Currently im happy with my astro and downloading movies with android box just an additional.

Right now im in 1mbps and tm just finish upgrading speed on my area up to max 4mbps. 4mbps might still not stable and later this box going to be dusty.

Do you have any advise for me?

no... because i have not used the cheapest boxes.

read this thread from page1, you may find some brands/models.

take note these boxes get obsolete within a couple of years.

also, these boxes are not "auto, push-button" astro boxes at all - they are software driven, need work, updates and support from seller/manufacturer/other users, so it is impt to buy a popular one.

I do read few pages from beginning and learned that support is a must that come with popular boxes from reputable seller. 2gb ram also is a plus.

If i have few names/models then i can start making some comparison.

Good to know you done some background research. So perhaps, you can look around the garage thread, physical or online shops and list a few devices that are within your budget. Also, what type of files do you download? Cuz not all boxes, super cheap or not, can handle high bit rate files, HD sound & .iso formats. Best advice/recommendations will follow.

My downloaded files is avi if not mistaken the one with 300mb for each episodes of tv series and around 1gb for a movies.

Actually my budget is rm300 but most ive found is with 1gb ram. Those with 2gb ram around rm500. So is it 1gb ram is a huge gap?

I saw mibox only 1gb ram which is well know name in home appliances. I guess they are just average name within android box user.

I would say ram is secondary but storage more priority.

Mibox is not bad, but storage space is abit low, but next firmware will allow support for USB drive as storage.
Current 4gb only limited 2gb space usage (2gb reserved for os) after installed all the apps its almost full already left 100mb-200mb so need constant clearing cache.
But the pros about Mibox is the UI are more friendly and nice.

There are other good box with 2gb ram and 8gb storage like M8S+ its pretty good for RM300 range.
