Southampton Football Club are a professional English football team, nicknamed The Saints and based in the city of Southampton. The club were relegated from the Championship in 2009, and play in League One in the 2009–10 season. Their home ground is the St Mary's Stadium, where the club moved to in 2001 from The Dell.

On 17 July 2009, Alan Pardew was appointed as manager of Southampton F.C. The club captain is goalkeeper Kelvin Davis who signed a new three year contract in July 2009.

The club has won the FA Cup once, and their highest-ever league finish was second in the top flight in 1983–84.

On 8 July 2009 the club was purchased by German-born Swiss businessman Markus Liebherr.

Pity Arsenal stole Theo, but hopefully the new director will give george burley enuogh money to get the right players for getting us back into the prem, and to stay there too.

... and what happened to the red-white stripes. The new 2006-2007 home kit is not out yet,but rest assured it's still the red/white stripes. The kit on display is the new away kit.I bought the home & away kit at Sunway Piramid years ago.

Theo should have been loaned back to us <.< he has seen zero first team action since his transfer and I don't see that as a good thing.

Saints have today completed the signing of Portugese defender, Pele (real name Pedro Miguel Cardoso Monteiro) for a fee believed to be just under 1m.
The 28 year old central defender is 6'2" and said to be pretty agressive and strong in the air and well suited to settling quickly into the English style of football. Burley has been after him since he joined Saints, but a deal couldn't be completed in January.

Soooo close for Saints to a first day victory in a classic game of two halves at Pride Park, but old lady luck and switching off late on, put paid to three points. Saints clawed their way back after a pretty desperate first half to dominate the second and grab two superb goals.

Saints got off to a winning start at a passionate and loud St Mary's thanks to yet another stunning "The Bomb" freekick from Gareth Bale. Not only was this only his second ever freekick for the first team, it was to the exact minute he scored at Derby, but even more impressive was tonight's effort was fully 35 yards out. Saints made sure of the points when Rasiak converted a penalty that he won himself to send the fans home very happy.

Ok, describing Saints as the "beauty" is probably over the top, but its fair to say based upon today's evidence that West Brom will probably be the beast of this division. A side that goes with physicality first and foremost and for a spell in the first half it worked for them. Saints got their game together in the second half, but couldn't work a clear cut chance apart from Bale hitting the post with another freekick. A tough match, but also an indicator that Saints can at least match the roughest team in the division, which does bode well for a good season. Thanks for the Shout-Out Tidus86.By the way, good game by Liverpool.Looks like it's going to be a battle for the top in the Premier League.

Saints came from behind twice to get a point at Barnsley, but was it a point gained or two dropped from a fixture we expected to win? Probably only later in the season can we use the benefit of hindsight to tell for sure, but right now, Saints are unbeaten in 4 games, although we have won only one.

I decided to support both clubs as soon as I became interested in premier league football =P both are on equal footing, but newcastle gets a hell lot more tv coverage (understatement?) so its easier to give them more attention.

Coventry 2 vs Southampton 1

Yet another "should win game" that has slipped through Saints fingers as Coventry scored two route one goals and Saints missed a host of chances to put a downer on Saints making the automatic promotion place as we slip to 6th in the table. Will Saints ever do things any way but the bloody hard way?

It was the case of 1 enjoyable minute of football and 89 of pretty scrappy and tense football, but Saints gained all three points thanks to a first minute goal by Marek Saganowski. His perfectly timed header from Bale's freekick, sailed into the corner of the net to push Saints up to 5th place in this increasingly tight top 8.Bottom-line,back to 5th!!!

Saints moved back into the play-off positions thanks to two goals in a minute right on the stroke of half-time. Jhon Viafara got the opener and then in-form Saganowski hammered in another spectacular goal as Saints claimed all three points in a scrappy game.

Saints missed the chance to stay in the top six after letting new leaders Sunderland leave St Mary's with all three points that they didn't deserve. It was tough on Saints, especially as we failed to hold onto a lead in a crucial match yet again. Is it bad luck that teams continually score from outside the box against us? Or is it more likely, we don't learn to close down those running at our penalty area?

Added on April 24, 2007, 10:01 amIt was far from pretty and at times, it was quite dire as Saints struggled to create much against 10 man Leeds. But, with 6 minutes to go, Bradley Wright-Phillips scored from close range via the underside of the bar and Saints had the three points that lifts us to 7th. With Preston losing and Stoke drawing, it puts us right back in the hunt.Push...push....push... rclxms.gif

Leon Best grabbed an oh so vital winner for Saints to move into the last play off place by goals scored from Stoke. At one point in the day, Saints were even 4th, but WBA and Wolves also won to mean that 3 play off places are now between 5 sides. Saints have to beat relegated Southend next Sunday and that should be good enough for the play offs.Come on Super Saints go for Glory!!! rclxms.gif

Added on May 7, 2007, 11:05 amIn a tense and emotion packed match, Saints came from behind to seal 6th place and now face Derby in the play-offs. After a quite wonderful tribute to Alan Ball that left a lump in the throat, Saints did their usual trick of putting us through a bit of torture, but we dominated the second half to cruise to a comfortable scoreline thanks to goals from Kenwyne Jones and Leon Best.Playoff here we come!!! rclxms.gif

Added on May 16, 2007, 1:53 pmIt wasn't to be, despite showing tons of bottle and fight and also easily playing the better football, Saints season is over after the lottery of a penalty shootout. It doesn't matter who missed the pens, I do feel very proud of my team after giving their all, but when a team has as much unbelievable good luck as Derby have, there's not much you can do about it.

The 5,000 Saints fans who went tonight were just magnificent. A wall of noise for 120 minutes, drowning out the home fans and showing fantastic passion and support. Sod all those overhyped Northern fans, Saints fans are the best around. The evidence was there for all to see.

God knows how the team and fans who made the trip feel, as just watching it on TV made me feel like I've gone 12 rounds with Lennox Lewis. Shattered and gutted, yes, but probably more proud to be a Saints fan than I've felt in a very long time.

Well done to the players, management and the fans tonight. You were magnificent.

It's natural we will all feel down, but what's done is done and moaning and whinging won't change a damn thing. A month ago, I felt Saints wouldn't get into the playoffs because of lack of effort. I was wrong and with a makeshift side tonight and on other occasions, the team has given its all for us, which is all we can really ask.

We all know how cruel football can be and often those teams who deserve more, don't get it. I'm not being bitter saying that luck and muscle overcame skill and passion in these last two games, it's just a fact. How on earth can you account for the freak own goal tonight? It's impossible.

I know it will be difficult in the coming days not to feel down and perhaps go through moments of anger, but I am a great believer in what doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger. I hope our team, club and fans can continue to get stronger. We can play our part by keeping our heads up and telling our workmates/schoolmates/fans of other clubs, how proud of Saints we are.

Players, management and, directors, come and go, the club and its fans are forever.

Promotion-chasing West Bromwich Albion slipped up as Southampton beat the Baggies 3-2.

Tony Mowbray has come under pressure for his side's erractic form and this result has done him no favours.

Southampton raced into a 2-0 lead through Stern John's 17th minute strike and Rudi Skacel's goal six minutes later.

Robert Koren brought the visitors back on level terms as he scored in the 32nd and 62nd minutes, but the hosts won it when Skacel struck again just after Albion's equaliser.

SOUTHAMPTON, England (AP) - Three Southampton directors, including the chairman and chief executive, resigned Monday after potential investors pulled out and bought a rival club instead.

SISU Capital, led by former Manchester City player Ray Ranson, had agreed with Southampton's board in principle in October to take over the League Championship club.

Even though the offer was rejected by major shareholders Rupert Lowe, Michael Wilde and Leon Crouch, Southampton said SISU did not withdraw the deal.

But on Friday, SISU agreed to buy a 71.4 percent of shares in Coventry, with view to a takeover, and ended all its interest in Southampton.

Chairman Ken Dulieu, chief executive Jim Hone and commercial director Andy Oldknow quit after a deadlock with shareholders on the future of the club.

Southampton Leisure Holdings PLC said Dulieu, Hone and Oldknow were recruited in July 2006 by Wilde, a former director and key shareholder.

"The common expectation was that Michael Wilde and his associates would secure the investment of substantial funds to help put the company back on sound financial footing," SLH said in a statement to the London Stock Exchange.

"Regrettably, the fact that such funds never materialized caused severe and continuous friction amongst the directors of the company."

Hone and Dulieu were then invited in March to take over the task of attracting investment and later agreed the deal with SISU.

"The chairman and the departing executives were unanimously of the opinion that SISU's investment proposals offered the prospect of a strong future for the club and would have provided the financial backing necessary for the club to win promotion to the Premier League," SLH said.

SLH said the three executives quit because of a "major difference of opinion between them and certain major shareholders concerning the appropriate way forward."

Southampton is 11th in the League Championship, three places above Coventry.

Saints have begun the hunt for a new manager after reluctantly allowing George Burley to take charge of Scotland.
It was too good an opportunity to turn down for the 51-year-old who leaves St Mary's after 25 months at the helm.

Burley said: "I am very sad to be leaving Southampton. It will be a big wrench because it is a fantastic club with top facilities, some terrific people, a great bunch of players and magnificent supporters.
"I have had full backing from the board and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here.

"I'd like to thank all the staff there for their help and support while I have been at St Mary's. I am sure they will soon get back to the Premiership where they belong and I really wish them all well.
"However this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity which I could not turn down.

"It was a huge honour even to be considered for the post and I am thrilled to have been offered it.
"To take charge of your country is perhaps the highest accolade you can get as a manager and I am really looking forward to that challenge."

Burley took over from Harry Redknapp in December 2005 and immediately set about rebuilding the squad. He got a quick and harsh lesson about the size of his task as Saints crashed 3-0 at Watford in his first game on Boxing Day.
He said at the time there were players who did not want to be there and some who were not what he was looking for.

A major clear-out followed with Antti Niemi, Nigel Quashie and club record signing Rory Delap all seeking their fortunes elsewhere.
And Burley was effectively forced to sell hot prospect Theo Walcott who, as a 16-year-old, would have been able to move for nothing if Saints had not negotiated a 12m move.

It was very much a time of transition for Saints who lost their first three league games under the new boss and then flirted briefly with the relegation zone before finishing strongly to end the campaign in 12th place.
The summer change of regime saw the club splash out 7m on players in a bid to seal a return to the Premiership in the last year of their parachute payment.

They played some exciting football as they finished the campaign strongly with a remarkable 6-0 win at Wolves proving the launchpad for a promotion push.

And they went agonisingly close with only the heart-break of a penalty shoot-out standing between them and a place in the Play-off final at Wembley.
The loss of the parachute payment had a huge effect on Saints who were forced to sell during the summer.

Key departures included two more hot prospects in Gareth Bale and Kenwyne Jones as well as Chris Baird, Leon Best and Pele.
That forced Burley to rebuild for a second successive season but this time a lack of funds and a crippling injury list made the task much harder.

He stuck to his principles of playing an attractive passing game but it was tough to get a settled side with some fans growing impatient at a perceived lack of progress.
But despite more boardroom upheavals, Saints hung onto the coat-tails of the play-off race and are still in a decent position for the new man to launch a promotion push.

They now need to find a strong replacement for Burley who has been freed to take a once-in-a-lifetime chance to take charge of his country's bid for the 2010 World Cup.
His 109 games as Saints manager brought 45 wins, 25 draws and 39 defeats.

His last game in charge was a 1-1 draw at Plymouth and he now embarks on a new challenge with the club's thanks for his hard work.

Paul Ince has emerged as the front runner in the search for the next Saints manager, with Jason Dodd and John Gorman the caretaker managers to see us through the next two games.

Former England midfield self-styled guv'nor and successful MK Dons manager, Paul Ince, was not tipped among the early favourites for the job (ahem, in yesterday's Rumour Mill for instance...).

However speculation is rife that Ince is the first choice for the Saints hotseat. Ince's blossoming career as a manager has only been in the lower leagues, first keeping Macclesfield Town up and then getting MK Dons to the top of League Two.

He does of course come with an impressive CV as a player having played at the top level in England and Italy and of course with distinction for the national side.

While Burley was only officially unveiled as the new Scotland manager today, it has been clear for some days that he was likely to go and Saints have been busy in that time drawing up a shortlist for his replacement.

Saints do at least have the benefit of compensation money from the SFA, money that they can use to pay similar compensation to MK Dons, if Ince is appointed.

There are of course many other experienced managers out of work with Chris 'Chris C' Coleman throwing his hat into the ring earlier today. Billy Davies, Hoddle, Adams, Allardyce, McClaren even are all available and Saints are likely to have some impressive CVs to consider.

For now, Saints made the obvious choice appointing Dodd and Gorman as caretaker managers, both of whom have managed clubs in their own right.

It is vital that the players are focused on the cup tie with a golden chance for Saints to be in the hat for the next round and either progress further or get a lucrative tie with one of the Premiership giants and a TV tie.

Then comes a home Championship game against Norwich and it is equally vital that Saints get the three points to give the new manager a fighting chance of salvaging something from this disappointing season.

My vote goes for Big Sam Allardyce. thumbup.gif

Stern John became the latest Southampton player to miss from the penalty spot as the managerless South Coast club slumped to defeat in their first league game without manager George Burley.

John blew the chance to earn Southampton a much-needed point when he shot over in the 69th minute, after Gary Doherty had needlessly handled substitute Adam Hammill's cross.

John had only been given the penalty-taker's job after Grzegorz Rasiak missed from the spot in Saturday's 2-0 FA Cup win over Bury.

Unlike Poland striker Raziak, John did not even have the solace of firing home the rebound.

Southampton again had caretaker managers John Gorman and Jason Dodd in charge as their search for new Scotland coach Burley's successor goes on.

The duo can count themselves unlucky not to be celebrating two wins out of two after Saints were denied by the woodwork on no fewer than four occasions.

On-loan Manchester City striker Ched Evens compounded the home side's woes with his fourth goal of the season on the stroke of half-time.

Midfielder Lee Croft whipped in a dangerous cross from the right for Wales Under-21 international Evans to fire home with a fierce volley from the edge of the area.

Raziak set the tone for a frustrating evening for Southampton and the majority of a paltry crowd of just 18,004, when he shot against a post in the seventh minute.

Midfielder Rudi Skacel also found the woodwork when he smashed a 25-yard free kick against the top of Norwich's charmed crossbar and when defender Andrew Davies also failed to beat the upright with a hooked 45th minute shot, Gorman and Burley must have feared it was not their night.

Raziak was thwarted by the post for a second time four minutes into the second half after combining neatly with Andrew Surman.

John's hapless penalty compounded a miserable night for the home team, who start interviews to find their eighth manager in eight years in the morning.

A slight consolation would be that we were not the biggest upset by Bristol Rovers in the FA cup, coz Fulham got knocked out by them as well...Well, i guess out luck aint as terrible as Liverpool's....

BTW, yesterday's match looked bloody messy , Saints players losing the ball all over the place, and if it weren't for luck, we would haf lose 3-0 or sumthing, since Bristol had like ,all the best chances.... anybody watchin the match would just say " typical football by a championship club" but i believe yesterday's performance was really rubbish.

Hey, we got a new manager already!

Nigel Pearson( Newcastle's former caretaker manager)

News

Nigel Pearson has been appointed as Saints manager in the wake of Saturday's FA Cup defeat at Bristol Rovers.
The former Newcastle assistant boss today signed a rolling contract taking over from caretaker duo John Gorman and Jason Dodd who are 100 per cent behind the appointment and will stay on as backroom staff.

The 44-year-old is a very experienced coach who has come through the Football Association coaching ranks working with every age group up to the Under 21's and recently stepped down as Newcastle assistant manager following the arrival of Kevin Keegan.
Saints chairman Leon Crouch has acted swiftly and decisively to bring in a new man following a run of four defeats in five games.

He was quick to pay tribute to caretaker duo John Gorman and Jason Dodd who took over following the sudden departure of George Burley.
They were given the role for the foreseeable future following a positive initial response from the players.

But Saturday's shock Cup exit has prompted the club to make a change with the team in danger of slipping into a relegation battle.
Crouch said: "We are very grateful to John and Jason for all their hard work and their passion after taking over in very difficult circumstances.

"They did everything they could and they must feel as hurt as everyone else at the club by Saturday's result.
"It was clear that the uncertainty of the management situation was having a detrimental effect on the players and so we have decided to bring in a new man.

"Pearson is a top quality coach with plenty of experience and good contacts in the game. He is also a disciplinarian with a strong work ethic and I believe he will inject new impetus into our campaign.
"He was a top defender in his time and has a good coaching and managerial pedigree at Stoke, West Brom, Newcastle and with the England Under 21 squad.

"I believe he is the right man to steady the ship and get us moving up the table once more. He is a winner and he will instil that mentality in the players."
Pearson made his name as a gritty defender with Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough before carving out a strong coaching career.

He began as manager of Carlisle and kept them in the Football League against all the odds at the end of the 1998-99 season. He signed on-loan goalkeeper Jimmy Glass who unforgettably came up for a corner and scored the injury-time goal which kept Carlisle up at the expense of Scarborough.
From there he joined Stoke as right-hand man to Gary Megson and was kept on when the manager was sacked later that year.

He then worked for the FA for two and a half years as part of the national coaching set-up.
He was involved with every England youth team from the Under-16s to the Under-20s before leaving to become assistant to Bryan Robson at West Brom.

When Robson was sacked, Pearson stood in as caretaker boss winning three of his four games before Tony Mowbray was appointed.
He was linked with a return to Hillsborough but instead took over from former Saint Kevin Bond as Newcastle Number Two in October 2006.

He recently stepped down following the departure of Sam Allardyce and the appointment of Kevin Keegan but recently began working with the England Under 21's as assistant to Stuart Pearce.

Substitute Adam Lallana had given the Saints a 77th-minute lead with his first goal for the club.

The former youth academy ace raced on to a pass from Jermaine Wright and showed a clean pair of heels to the Albion defence before scoring with a low drive.

The strike looked set to lift Southampton out of the relegation zone and send Leicester City crashing into the bottom three. smile.gif

Southampton 3 Sheffield United 2! rclxm9.gif

Saints fought back from a goal down to stay up in an enthralling encounter on the south coast, finishing with ten men after two goal hero Stern John got sent off for two foolish yellow cards. rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxms.gif sweat.gif notworthy.gif icon_rolleyes.gif cool2.gif smile.gif biggrin.gif

Southampton completed a dramatic final-day escape from relegation by coming from behind to beat Sheffield United 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at St Mary's Stadium.
Stern John cracked a second-half double and Marek Saganowski's header shortly before the interval ensured the Saints avoided the drop to League One.

The south-coast side are well versed at beating relegation on the final day - in the Premier League they went into the last day of the season in danger of relegation four times during the 1990s.

But having dropped out of the top flight three years ago, they were staring down the barrel of third division football when Stephen Quinn put the Blades ahead.

Saganowski equalised and John fired Saints ahead at the start of a nerve-shredding second half, in which United substitute Jon Stead dragged his side level.

But John's 19th goal of the season, and comfortably the most important - means St Mary's will again be hosting Charlton, rather than Cheltenham, next term. The striker's afternoon ended prematurely as he was sent off for a second yellow card 10 minutes from time, but the 10 men held out.

The win was only Nigel Pearson's third since he took over in February, but the man who was in charge of Carlisle when goalkeeper Jimmy Glass scored a last-gasp winner to save them from dropping out of the league can add another great escape to his CV.
Saints will also be meeting Sheffield United again next season after their lingering hopes of a play-off place were ended.
Whether Pearson will still be in charge remains to be seen, with former chairman Rupert Lowe poised to take over the club again in the coming weeks.
The Blades fashioned the first chances against a nervy Saints side, with veteran midfielder Gary Speed seeing a header deflected over the top and Rob Hulse shooting high and wide.
The sell-out St Mary's crowd began to find their voice as the hosts started to crank up the pressure, with a couple of crosses from boyhood Saints fan Andrew Surman causing some mild angst in the United defence.
But Southampton were shoved closer to the drop in the 23rd minute when Billy Sharp curled in a deep cross from the right which the unmarked Quinn met with a firm header back across Richard Wright and into the net.
Saganowski twice came close to equalising, with a header which hit Matt Kilgallon and the point-blank drive blocked by Paddy Kenny. The Blades were only denied what could have been a killer second by a superb save by Wright from Kilgallon's header.
And moments later St Mary's erupted when Jason Euell's swirling cross was converted by Saganowski at the far post. A re-energised Saints emerged after the break and six minutes into the second half John sparked delirium in the stands.
John fed Saganowski and continued his run into the area as the Pole deftly lofted the ball over Kilgannon and John Halls and back into his path.
St Mary's held its breath as John took an age to bring the ball down, eight yards out, before dispatching it into the roof of the net.
The Blades would not lie down and substitute Stead levelled when he poked home Quinn's cross from close range.
But Saints were not to be denied and John was again the man in the right place, latching onto Jhon Viafara's header, turning inside the area and shooting low past the wrong-footed Kenny.
The two-goal hero was dismissed with 10 minutes remaining for a foul on Derek Geary. But with St Mary's at fever pitch, the hosts held out to secure their Championship status and spark wild scenes of celebration. cool2.gif cool2.gif cool2.gif cool2.gif

Sorry mate but it's my duty to hate your club. mad.gif

South Coast Derby

The South Coast Derby is the name given to matches between the Saints and their fierce nearby rivals, Portsmouth F.C., from the city of the same name 17 miles from Southampton. The matches are also referred to as the Hampshire Derby. Including Southern League games, there have been 67 games between the clubs, with Southampton winning 34 and Portsmouth 20. The rivalry is infamous as one of the most unpleasant and fractious in world football - the two sets of supporters loathe each other. It is speculated that this stems from the cities' own competitive past: Portsmouth is one of Britain's leading Royal Naval bases, and Southampton is the country's leading civilian port, and home to the famous ocean liners that plied the cross-Atlantic route to America. wink.gif

Saints first win of the season!
Derby 0 - 1 Saints!
*
Derby County's desperate run continued when they were beaten by a young Southampton side who thoroughly deserved their first win of the season.

The visitors recovered from two league defeats to outplay Derby and the margin of victory could have been much wider but for the form of goalkeeper Roy Carroll.

He kept his team in the game until the 57th minute when the Saints finally managed to finish off one of the many impressive moves that had made the home side look second rate.

David McGoldrick bundled the ball over the line from close range after Carroll had saved from Adam Lallana.

It was just as well for Derby that Southampton did not have a sharper cutting edge up front, because the damage would surely have been a lot worse for Paul Jewell's struggling team.

Southampton created three one-on-ones before half-time, but failed to take any of them and those wasted chances could have proved costly when Derby broke through in the 56th minute.

A long ball from substitute Dean Leacock sent Kris Commons clear, but Kelvin Davis did well to smother his low shot and 60 seconds later the visitors were ahead.

Former Derby winger Lee Holmes found enough space on the right to whip in a cross which Lallana hit first time against Carroll and after the rebound had come back off the bar, McGoldrick headed it in.

Derby were now forced to chase the game, but they rarely looked like equalising and it was the visitors who came closest to scoring again.

The movement and passing of Southampton was excellent and when Simon Gillett picked out McGoldrick, his header thumped against the bar.

The young striker thought he had scored a second ten minutes from time when Holmes picked him out, but Carroll produced his best save of the game although it could not rescue Derby from another worrying defeat.

Southampton 2 Birmingham City 0. rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

Adam Lallana fired home his second goal in four games to seal an impressive victory for Southampton over Birmingham City.

Birmingham went into the tie after winning their four previous games this season, but really struggled to get a grip on the Saints.

Midfielder Lallana cracked home a deserved second goal just days after he grabbed the winner against Derby at Pride Park.

The skilful winger skipped past the static Liam Ridgewell in the Birmingham defence before smashing the ball past goalkeeper Colin Doyle and into the bottom left-hand corner.

The south coast club had taken the lead in the 17th minute after a wonderful flowing move.

Right-back Lloyd James crossed from the right to David McGoldrick who headed the ball back to Lee Holmes.

Midfielder Holmes controlled the ball on the edge of the area before hitting a low left-footed shot past Doyle and into the bottom corner.

Birmingham had their best chance of the half on the 30 minute mark which saw Garry O'Connor let fly with a 25-yard effort that fizzed just over the bar.

The goalscorers Holmes and Lallana linked up six minutes later and they should have given Southampton a 2-0 lead going into the break.

Holmes put a free-kick into the danger area and Lallana hit a right-footed shot that hit the crossbar.

The ball fell straight back to him but his first-time effort on the rebound hit the right-hand post and bounced clear for a free-kick.

Former Southampton striker Kevin Phillips came on at the break for the disappointing O'Connor but barley touched the ball in the second half and it was left for Lallana to finish off the game and give the Saints a well deserved 2-0 victory.

QPR 3 - 1 Saints

Former Saints striker, Blackstock scored in the first minute. 1 - 0
Lancashire got sent off in the 30th minute.
Lallana got one back after a energizing run. 1 - 1
Some QPR guy was totally offside when he scored QPR's 2nd goal. 2 - 1
Then some other QPR guy took a shot at Davis, rebounded to Blackstock again and he scored. 3 - 1.
Last minute, the QPR fella score another one. 4 - 1

Was watching it and that QPR fella was freaking totally offside but the Linesman denies it. >: (

I think this is a continuation of the freaking curse of Sky Sports...

The curse of the Sky cameras struck again on a day when little went right for Saints, as a side full of youngsters fought back from a terrible start only to fall apart defensively with former Saint Dexter Blackstock taking advantage with a brace. sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

Southampton 2 Norwich City 0. rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

Jordan Robertson fired home a goal on his Championship debut to inspire Southampton to their first win at St Mary's this season.
Striker Robertson, who only arrived on loan from Sheffield United last week, cut in from the left wing and curled a delightful 20-yard shot into the top corner to give his new side the lead on the half-hour mark.
The game was decided in controversial circumstances with a penalty for Southampton.
Dejan Stefanovic was ruled to have brought down Adam Lallana and the referee pointed to the spot.
Veteran defender Stefanovic protested and was shown the red card for foul and abusive language before David McGoldrick stepped up to slot home the penalty for his fifth goal of the campaign.
In a lively opening to the match, both sides hit the woodwork.
McGoldrick was the first for Southampton when his shot from eight yards cannoned off the post with the goal at his mercy.
Norwich midfielder Lee Croft then put over a teasing centre for on-loan forward Antoine Sibierski to head against the inside of the Southampton post with goalkeeper Kelvin Davis beaten.
After Southampton took the lead they almost added a second when Joseph Mills set substitute Bradley Wright-Phillips free and his 20-yard shot clipped the top of the crossbar.
After the break, McGoldrick crossed to Robertson who hit a first-time shot just over the bar.
Davis came to Southampton's rescue twice in a minute on the hour-mark with two fabulous saves.
First he denied Omar Koroma when he was clean through on goal and then brought a stunning second save from the striker after the resulting corner fell to his feet eight yards from goal.
After the sending off and penalty, Southampton looked to go on the rampage to kill the game off.
Lallana, McGoldrick and then Lallana again all went close to adding a third but it was not to be.
The win was Southampton's third of the season and they are now four matches unbeaten as they look to climb the table.

Preston North End 2 Southampton 3. rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

This was a real game of two halves with Southampton producing a great second-half comeback to win 3-2 after trailing 2-0 at half-time.Jason Euell was injured in the warm-up and had to be replaced by Lloyd James with Oscar Gobern on the bench.Saints made two substitutions at half-time, bringing on Gobern and Bradley Wright-Phillips for Ryan Smith and James. It was 2-1 in the 63rd minute when Andrew Surman won a corner and took it left-footed and debutant Alex Pearce, on loan from Reading, rose highest to nod home from close range. In the 68th minute it was 2-2 when Jack Cork crossed and St Ledger made a mistake and substitute Gobern crossed the ball over to Surman, who dived to head the ball home. The winner came in the 90th minute when David McGoldrick broke through the middle of the pitch, beating Youl Mawene before firing into the bottom right-hand corner of the net to break Preston's hearts. cool2.gif

But the past few times I watched Southampton played in the FA cup on TV, they were horrible, like cursed. A few years ago( i think the year after relegation) we lost to Newcastle, but got to see Blackstock playing GK for a while XD.

Last year I think we played against Bristol and we lost that one too, embarrassingly. But this time, we are the underdogs! Can't get worst already, seeing the current opponents.

My hero. notworthy.gif

Steve Moran

Moran was without doubt one of the finest ever strikers that Southampton has ever possessed. He had a knack of scoring some crucial goals for the club and had a fine understanding with Steve Williams and David Armstrong up front. He was a fast striker who was honoured as the PFA Young player of the year in 1982. flex.gif

Southampton 2 Northampton Town 0. rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert repaid a slice of his £1million transfer fee by scoring on his debut as the Saints cruised to victory over Northampton.

Lambert only arrived at the St Mary's Stadium on Monday following his transfer from Bristol Rovers where he scored 29 league goals last season.

And he signed no signs of slowing down with a predatory finish on 29 minutes before midfielder Adam Lallana grabbed the second on 68 minutes.

Lambert already fired a warning shot to the Cobblers when he fired a 25-yard freekick just wide.

But the first real sight of goal fell to visiting midfielder Ben Marshall.

The Saints failed to clear their lines and Marshall burst into the area only to find Kelvin Davis – who was one of the highly-rated players to pledge their loyalty during Southampton's troubled period – out of his goal in a flash to smother his effort.

Marshall again tested Davis with a freekick that bounced just in front of the keeper but he clung on as the Cobblers upped the ante.

Frontman Steve Guinan, who replaced Adebayo Akinfenwa in the starting XI, fired a volley just over and Andy Holt should have worked the keeper with a header from a corner.

And they were made to pay for their prolificacy when the Saints broke the deadlock just before the half-hour mark.

Lloyd James found himself in space on the right and whipped in a cross that Lambert finished off.

Guinan missed a golden opportunity to draw the visitors level when he just failed to get the right connection on a ball into the box.

Southampton boss Alan Pardew opted to throw Polish striker Gregor Rasiak into the fray and the decision immediately paid dividends as his knockdown allowed Lallana to tap in from close range and book the home side's place in the next round.

I heard Gordon Strachan is going back to English football, being the manager of Middlesbrough.

And our news:
Southampton 3 - 1 Milton Keynes Dons

Hammond in the 56, Lambert 74, Connolly at the last minute of regular time. 21,387 attended the match at St. Mary's.

Feels good to be on the winning side biggrin.gif I don't think we had a 4 match winning streak in the league since a very long time ago.

Are we gonna continue our fine form and show our quality by beating 2nd placed Charlton or are we gonna succumb to pressure.
Oh, and FA cup draw is over, we got Northampton. North vs South XD

Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
Southampton 2 - 1 Charlton Athletic. Thomas and Lambert (again!)
Attendence: 13,906 at St Mary's

7 wins in 8 games. This is looking good.

Southampton 2 - 2 Norwich

After leading with a goal from Lallana into half time, Norwich equalizes and Connolly puts one in for the Saints...which Norwich equalizes again shortly after. So close but so far.

But.. you guys will be disappointed with me. I know I am disappointed with myself sad.gif
I watched the game at St Mary's.. BUT I FORGOT TO BRING MY CAMERA D:
FML. Phone camera also spoilt -.- All I had was some pictures taken with my dad's phone. But that's like only 4pictures sighhh. I left my camera on the floor when packing my bag.

Travelled from London to Southampton by train. Took about 70mins from Waterloo Station.

Stadium is huge. Grass was beautiful. One section of the fans, behind one of the goals, they were Saints. Definitely. Standing the whole match, screaming their lungs out with songs and chants. Hehehe.

Atmosphere was great. I just wonder what happens when the stadium is full, or rather the big games in the premier league ohmy.gif
Didn't like the rain though. It was an evening match, 7.45pm (London time) and got real cold. Real cold

When it started raining reasonably heavy, you could see the game pace change a lot. Everything was much slower and the game wasn't so smooth.
But we won! Hehehhe. LAMBERRRTTT

Couldn't stay for the whole game because the last train to London was at 10pm. So left the stadium at 75mins of game time and made a walk to Southampton Central (the train station).

I bought a Saints cap and a long sleeve home jersey. Will post up pictures later on.
My dad bought a cap too, short sleeve away jersey and a Saints mug.
The new away jersey colours look awesome

Walsall 1 - 3 Southampton

Goals by Connolly and Hammond in the first half. Lambert gets one in the second half which Walsall equalized a minute after and that wraps up another win for the Saints.

(sorry, mistaken the time)

I wanted a jersey sad.gif I guess I'll just order online then sad.gif

*add-on: With all other results going our way, Saints are 15th in the league, a 5 place jump from 20th. Without the points deduction, we would be in play-off position.

It cost 40Pounds for the long sleeve jersey at size M (UK/Europe size M is Asia size L).
The long sleeve jersey cost 5Pounds more than the short sleeve one. Size M for short sleeve cost 35Pounds.
I forgot how much the cap cost though but I like it.

"We're Getting There" - Pardew
Posted on: Sat 19 Dec 2009
Alan Pardew said that there were plenty of positives to take away from Elland Road despite going down to a defeat at Leeds.

The Saints manager felt his team showed that they could compete with the table toppers and was pleased with the progress they have made so far.

"We're not quite at Leeds' level, it's taken them three or four years to get there, but we are getting there," he commented afterwards.

"We'll take a lot of positives out of the game but we gave a lot of strong performances today, the two centre halves were very good today, but there's room for improvement and that's what we've got to do.

"I'm disappointed that we lost today because we did a lot of good things, but we didn't play enough, we didn't put enough quality balls to our strikers or our wide players, so I think we missed Morgan Schneiderlin today if I'm honest.

"We battled, we were committed and on 65 minutes when they take off their best player, you start to think it's almost 'job done' so the goal came at a bad time for us because we had them in a good position.

"We played an offensive team here, we didn't sit back, we gave them some problems but we didn't switch the ball well enough to get Adam Lallana on the ball because he was a problem for them today."

Clear opportunities were restricted for both sides, so Pardew was frustrated not to get a key decision go his team's way late in the game.

"We had three or four chances and at the end in all honesty when we're fighting to get something from the game, we had a cast iron penalty, but he (the referee) wasn't brave enough to give it.

"We won a header in the box," he explained. "Antonio got a touch then the guy has just took him out, and unfortunately for us the ball fell to one of our players so we played on, but I think the referee didn't fancy giving the decision because there was a lot of pressure on it."

The manager named Kelvin Davis amongst the substitutes today, but is keen not to rush the shot stopper back into action ahead of the busy Christmas period.

"He was on the bench today but he's still not OK with his kicking yet, so there's a little way to go yet.

"I want us to reach the heights that we can. Today against a very good side they made it difficult for us, but I still felt we could have played better and it will be another difficult game for us on Boxing Day," he concluded.

Whatcha getting? I'm too scared to wear my Southampton jersey. Should I use it and it may get dirty. Or just leave it in my closet hanging? unsure.gif

Yeap, Southampton's holding company went into administration coz of some bank loan/overdraft facility relating to the building of St Mary's Stadium.

They decided to implement the deduction in the new season instead of the previous season.

Sorry, I meant the postage cost of one jersey is 12 pounds.

jersey itself 42 pounds. just wanted to know if anybody here wants to share the postage fee.

Total Costs (plus postage and VAT):

1 short sleeve jersey = 54 pounds

2 short sleeve jersey = 99 pounds (49.50 each)

3 short sleeve jersey = 146 pounds (48.66 each)
