Hello everyone. Just wanna ask some question here.

I sent an email to an entertainment magazine to apply being a part time photographer covering events for them.

They emailed back me asking for a fee proposal.

I haven't never heard or do this before because I have been freelancing for my friend ( We trusted each other so there is no documents/contracts ).

I googled a bit and I roughly knew that it's about service rate and how much you charge them, but I don't know how much should I write?

May I ask for some guidance on what are the usual rates and how to write it?

Thanks !

As I know for an amature, the price usually starts from RM500. Ask 50% deposit first if possible before engage.
You can charge much more if the event is harder and longer.

500 bucks can be count cheap if you cosider the energy, cost of equipment involved and the time to retouch the pic tongue.gif

well again i say.. its based back to ur result of ur work..
as a client, i dont care how much effort u put in, what is ur cost of equipment n such..
even with the best "gears" and effort, doesnt mean the end result going to be AWESOME.
i know people take better photo with iphone or cheap camera then some who use DSLR etc.

yet again, i dont deny u that 500bucks is consider cheap. but not to an amature.
(chop, we are saying 500bucks for an hour or half day or full day?)
if just a few hours event, 1 photographer (in this case, first time doing solo work)..
charging rm 500... i just hope u got the RESULT to back your pricing.
(not gears, time etc)

Usually i tell me clients this:
You pay peanuts, u get peanuts..

to post starter:
in your proposal, do include what services you are giving. ive seen a few new photographer got pinned by thier clients where they requested printed copy photograph or a photobook include etc.
ive seen some proposal that also comes in multiple package.
where u can give them options of certain services u want to provide. (usually see this in wedding photography)

The 500 bucks is a fair price to me for a job which atleast 4-6 hours of work, about 300-400 selected final pic and all retouched.

But I look into Ts situation again maybe the retouch part can be skipped as it is for magazine and they will have their own graphic design for the task so maybe the price can be reduced. So as you said, maybe the best price is depend on the level of confidence he have towards his work, but if possible not to low as some of those whom will charge a peanut just to gain more customer than anyone else. They will ruin the market price for long term.

still good price actually.

4 hours of work (not counting travel time) you do 10 events at 4 hours each also in 40 hours you get 10x RM 500 already.

recently some one looking for togs also, I offfered my non-RM 500 price but got turned down as some other team willing to accept the job for lower fee.

Can't blame people though, if they're willing to work more as long as there's money come in and they're not at a loss, it's all good.
