What about a regular personal blog, would it be able to generate a steady flow of income?

Not sure what is interesting about cars in general.

If you can get traffic = people will advertise on your site/blog = money.

It's not easy, there's tonnes of things you must cover and keep interesting for your readers.

website - anything that you browse on the Internet that runs with HTML at the background.

do you think lowyat.net is a blog? I don't think paultan is considered a blog now, neither do I think lowyat.net is. even my goldfries.com doesn't feel like a blog already.

all are actually online publication. I just haven't change my tagline.

Yup, I agree with you on that.

When we start it at a personal level = blog

When it grows into a multi-author team = online publication

We should just wait for goldfries interview in the papers to know that brows.gif

Actually getting interviewed by journalist is a good way to drive traffic from offline.

You just need to make sure they spell the url correctly. Most of the time when I try to open a complicated url, it goes to nowhere. doh.gif

Make your domain short like goldfries, easy to spell and remember.

A personal blog can also generate income. Those days, all blog owners jump to other blogs to visit and vise versa. Now in a different era, it is better to have something which users would search for instead of ahhh... i ate breakfast this morning (bla bla)

Blog

Content is regularly updated.
Not formal.
Interactive.
Informative and educational.
Interactivity about industry/customer issues.
Some people have a blog.

Website

Content is static.
Formal/professional.
Interactivity does not exist. There is only one-way communication.
Transactional.
Communication about products and/or services.
Almost everyone has a website. In fact, it is almost a requirement in business today.

Paultan is actually like top gear Malaysia, web site version. The key of making money through blogging is still quality content. But do you guys realize that those city girls blog are making money from product sponsors as well? Nowadays their blog is either full of sponsored content or make up product reviews. Hmmmmmmm.

What is key is that you've got a good niche. Don't expect a personal blog to get requests from sponsors obviously. As long as you cater to a group that thirsts information that you feel isn't covered well enough, you've got a good shot at attracting sponsors that might look for more targeted ad placements.

Hey kelvin,

If your blog hits RM900, then you already own one minimum wage clone.

Just think about it... if you hit RM1,800 then you have 2 minions already brows.gif

Still these minions needs supervision and daily feeding of content laugh.gif

So paul tan is the papa smurf of minions... tongue.gif

Yes blogging can generate income, mostly generated from ads or sponsorship, endorsement fee & etc. But also very dependant on what kind of contents your blog features.

Content is king. Income will come if you got good contents.

I'm not too sure about earning, but I think written form of article is still remain necessary nowadays, especially for Nutrition, medical, Politic niche, etc. Just because people need something which is presentable, a factsheet, a more straightforward answer.
While YouTube could be more on Gadget review/ Food blog/ etc; written Article could be meant for some niches like I said.

If you just start from scratch, it might be an uphill task. But eventually it is achievable.

Indeed it is getting more difficult as more and more people are blogging right now.

Blogging isn't easy. Especially nowadays, everyone jump into this field. The market are almost bloated. You might heard about who earns millions on blogging, but the truth is most blogging site don't even manage to cover their hosting fee. Unless you are doing more than a simple blog. Eg: Ecommerce etc.

Blogging day by day is becoming hard to make money zone because everyone has jumped into it. The prime program called Adsense have raised their bars and so as other PPC networks. Slowly its becoming business, you need to invest time, money and then wait for returns.

I started a travel blog 5 years ago and it's currently a good source of income for me. But I feel like it's becoming harder because there's tons of competitors trying to monetize their sites as well.

There is another source of income for bloggers - Affiliate Marketing.

Create relevant content which you might already did, eg: Lifestyle talking about Fashion, perhaps you may also insert affiliate links from Zalora.

Any action such as sales taken on the affilaite links, you will be given commission =D.

ACCESSTRADE Malaysia is one of the affiliate network that provides campaigns/brands for bloggers/webmaster to monetize their traffics.
