MG 1/100 RX-78-2 version 3.0. I bought this for my 12 year old nephew (his first gundam)..he completed it over the weekend. So he can do it, so can you. Unless you are 6 years old?

MG RX78-2 OYW - kinda hard to get 1 now.
MG Wing Proto Zero - not too bad but a newbie should avoid any transformation kit no matter how easy it is.
MG Deathscythe EW - arm connector abit short, quite loose. May frustrate newbie when posing.
MG Zeta - OH GOD NO unless u r a masochist and enjoy being tortured.

the rest is fine for an introductory kit.

The suggestions are very valid, but it balls down to your own preference which Gundam series have you watch and which do you like?

Of all the available MG, I personally would recommend RX-78-2 OYW (One Year War) version.

while its medium in terms of complexity and difficulties. To make it look like that in the pic require painting, particularly the gold trim. Since u r a newbie dont go for such kit. Not to mention its expensive, newbie mistake is bound to happen and when u made such mistake on expensive kit u'll cry. Oh and u mention first edition, I assume its the ver ka Sinanju, well its not in production anymore + its waist joint is a massive flaw. U shouldnt get the ver ka, not that u could but even if u could, dont. The OVA is the better version.

start of with something simple and relatively cheap, when u commit newbie mistake its not gonna hurt too much.

You will be intimidated by the amount of runners at first, but as HxiiiK mentioned, Sinanju is a fun build. But for a beginner, Sinanju might not be the best choice as it is quite tedious in some parts... Zaku II v2.0 is still my recommendation

Zaku II might be good...but for a newbie, you know that little parts for the belt / legs...the tube like thingy. Sorry, don't know what is it called. It's damn frustrating and difficult to remove from the runners. Maybe I don't know a better technique but I found myself using my teeth to remove it..lol. I like Zaku but whenever I think about building that part...i'd end up not buying it.

Next stage upgrade skill or grade?

I still haven't touch painting. Need a larger space to reduce hazard.
Also by skill, it is like making panel lining, sanding off nub marks, or painting.
By grade, it's about moving to RG, MG or PG.

haha...after build, u might hantam a gundam marker to do some panel lining...

so far, i belum touch on spray or Air Brush, no skill + no money..
pending to move in later on.
