clemong_888,

next time put name/sequence so its easier for others to comment.

From top to bottom, the 4 not bad, #5 is good. Others have 'maggi mee' effect. handheld? or is it because the fireworks burst that way?

Lots of nice shot u have too. biggrin.gif

tht pic def not taken on a desert but on a small island. reason why the rock formation is so nice because it's been hit by was for hundreds of years. partly why that island is reduced to the size of a house!

hi clemong_888,

thx for sharing the photo, i'd suggest to compose yr pictures thematically, and if possible, some PS/color adjust/cropping to make the pictures more presentable.

some idea, not necessary to squeeze every single object into the scene, leave some space for imagination, japan is a very colorful country, i'd like to see more life style images.

my 2 cents. laugh.gif

thanks, i know it myself. shot too many photos and i just don't have the time to manually edit it.. everything is auto fix on p/s which i realized that it sucks. and composition is still my weakest point sigh

i'll try to improve my shots next time biggrin.gif

next collection of photos were taken before this comment, cheers!

However, your temple pics are oversaturated on the orange side. Very nice last pic with the natural flare effect.

a normal digital camera is a little hard. it should have at least manual controls so u can set a low shutter speed. then u definitely need a tripod. then u must be patient and wait for the perfect timing.

i did this kind of shot before of the Sydney opera house. When just shoot the photo of the Opera house, I can see the details, when I shoot with people in the photo the Opera house was overexposed, a little cut and paste helped turn out the perfect photo.

yea, use a slow shutter speed. most of these pics were 1 to 2 secs. the problem is that when u take this type of shots in daylight, the slowest shutter speed will depend on how small te aperture can get. that's where a ND filter comes it. it limits the light coming into your cam,i.e like sunglasses. that way, u can lower the shutter speed even more to get smoother water.

i din ps much, just took away the dirt n stuff.

ND filter are like other filters, pieces of glass in front of your lens to get a certain effect.
more info on nd here

http://www.camerafilters.com/pages/nd.aspx

anything below a 1/60 shutter should require a tripod. the hand of rule is 1/the focal length of your lens. i.e if the focal length is 100mm the slowest shutter at hand held to get sharp images is 1/100.

Dandelion of the genus Taraxacum, the flower after polination developes into the seed-containing achenes in the formation of a globe, A.K.A. "Dandelion clock". In Japanese is Tanpopo

besides that... have you tried shooting raw and in manual... you can bypass the need for ND filter. Lossless raw is very flexible... unlike film/jpeg.

and clemong_888... inma wa Gifu ni sunde imasu ka. Fuyu is coming. I on the other hand in Kyushu with temperature never below 0 so..far

Unless you want to stop below what the camera can achieve.. Raw is un processed image.. which is info recorded of essentially analog to digtal signals off the nikon ccd. I on the other hand use canon cmos which has less noise at high iso. In Fukuoka to be precise.. studying PHD. and from the state which has the 2nd highest peak in South East Asia...(why Myanmar have to join...)

Wow...wow! the waterfall is really really nice.

After seeing your waterfall pix the last time, got myself the tripod and a CPL. If without the filter can take at wide aperture or not...overexposed izit?
If want to take pix of someone stand in front of the waterfall, how to set the camera?..with wide aperture, itu orang mesti blur?..so how?

wide aperture? or wide angle?

u can take it without the filter but it'll limit the max shutter speed.

if u wanna put a guy there, he must be damn still la at a long exposure.

1st curtain sync flash might help. Just ask the guy to quickly bug out after the flash fires. Haven't tried if myself though.

I think the movement would not register with the long exposure, but the person could seem to be transparent?

let's say your shutter is set to 1 sec.
1st curtain flash will fire at the first 1/3 second (for example only)
2st curtain flash will fire at the last 1/3 second (also for example only)

This 1st sync and 2nd sync flash thingy got me very blur leh...can pl explain ? What's the diff?
*
1st sync flash is the flash releases on shutter open, 2nd sync flash means the flash comes on when shutter closes. If you can picture it in your head a 0.5 second flash taking the picture of a moving vehicle at night. 1st sync will give the impression that the car is moving backwards, 2nd sync will give the impression that the car is moving forward.

No. 7.reflection?..is an interesting pix.

It's a pity the pictures on the autumn leaves are a little dark. Had the same problem with those I took in Sichuan.

day 2 of my trip.. miraculously, i woke up at 530 am.. caught the sunrise from my hostel's roof

then i made my way to toufukuji(東福寺), famous for its autumn foliage.. as i said, leave viewing season is not in full swing yet but what i saw that day was almost astounding. arrived there at about 7.40, an hour earlier from opening time but already i saw photogrpahers there, shooting from outside the temple. i've heard how big the crowd would be during this time but nothing anyone said prepared me for what i saw. a queue to go view 'leaves'! a 100 person strong line excluding those coming in tourist groups.

talking about photographers, i saw so many that day, girls with slrs, girls with slrs n tripods, girls with video cams, girls with video cams n tripod.. if i saw a girl with medium format cams, it would have made my day. there were so many slr users there, from contax to d80 to whatever u name it.. a guy was using a medium format which i think was a mamiya..

so on with pics..

my next stop was kiyomizu tera, nominated as one of the new 7 wonders of the world. personally.. i don see whats so nice about this temple.. alot of other places i've been here beat this place hands down. bunch of frens joined me here so shooting time was reduced alot

try to shoot with shutter priority, don't care about the blinking indicatordon't worry about the aperture too, it'll open up to the max of the zoom range. adjust to about +1ev, then shoot. See if it will return the same result.

try to shoot with shutter priority, don't care about the blinking indicatordon't worry about the aperture too, it'll open up to the max of the zoom range. adjust to about +1ev, then shoot. See if it will return the same result.

I always have problem with the blinking light indicator (pun not intended). Once it comes on, the shutter just refuses to release. How tom overcome?

ah sorry for the misinformation. if the round indicator blinks, means that the camera has not got a got focus lock. To overcome that, use MF, but the photo outcome will be somewhat OOF. The blinking I mentioned meant the aperture indicator.

Even with the aperture/shutter indicator ...once it blinks (only on A or S mode) , sometimes the shutter relents...Most times it just refuses to budge.

could it be u're focusing on a dark object, i.e the sky at night? if the cam cant find sth to focus at, it wont release the shutter..

everytime that happens to me, and if I know that the photo has been focused properly, I just switch the lens to MF and shoot. In MF the shutter will release even if the photo is not focused.

You are referring to a no-focus problem. The instances I am referring to are not focus related. Usually happens in A or S mode. I think sometimes the aperture or speed I set is not suitable for the condition. Problem goes away when I change the aperture, or speed or sometimes the ISO setting.

reading this in relation to above, I did try MF, but most times, the results are horrendous....blurred or over/under exposed.. It's like the camera is saying..."I told you so!...you have been forwarned! "

I know....paid a heavy price and missed many great shots of the most beautiful spot in Jiuzhaigou..Camera was left in Manual mode from the previous shooting..Stupid me kept wondering why my shots were all blurred...thought it was the extreme cold weather that was playing havoc.

Hah! I must have been stunned silly by the glorious autumn colours and the out of this world colours of the lakes.!!!

lol, i do that sometimes.. forgot to change back iso.. stuff like tht.

maybe it's already the maximum shutter it can go? i get a LOW reading when it's too underexposed or HIGH when too overexposed.

I get it now. I just use external flash to try to overcome the underexpose problem. And if it's overexpose, just use higher shutter speed. a plus is it reduces camera shake, but will render all your beautiful water photos into normal photos of water.

Will remember these tips when I do close-crop subjects.
I am more inclined towards landscape and street photography. I believe the flash's reach will be kind of limited in taking landscapes. Higher speed means it will bring down my aperture which I try to open up as much as possible in most instances...esp in low light. I try to avoid bringing up the ISO.

Not sure if my understanding of how the camera works is correct or not. blink.gif

Now I know why so people say landscape/street photography is more challenging than other category of photography.

Time for a ND filter. moneyflies.gif

P/s Clemong...sorry for the intrusion into your thread.

30 is very nice. I starts to love autumn. I'm sure 1 fine day, I'm going to capture autumn pictures biggrin.gif

33, too shallow DOF. Should focus on the building and leave the leafs blur. It would be nicer...

another take on autumn 33 is sharp focus on the leaves, then blur the background until nothing is discernible. thumbup.gif
but they do look good as it is.

I am close...45 mins to Orchard. Perhaps I take things for granted,so near yet don't bother to go ( most times). I hate the jam and the crowd! Usually go after X.mas when the crowd is gone, just before they take down the lights.

All access to overseas sites from Malaysia, especially US, Japan, Taiwan, China and HK, is at a crawl due to the Taiwan earthquake. Luckily LYN is good. If not, will be damn sien. laugh.gif

thanks, glad u liked it. wb not so. had problems with exposure though. cos the ground is white while the background is dark. if u use 3d metering, it'll take the average and the snow will come out somewhat grey. usually i push the ev up a bit or use spot metering and aim at the snow. of last resort, photoshop biggrin.gif
