It is this nagging question. I've joined as teaching staff / interns / worked as a professional ... Started off my own business ... I've enjoyed a certain sense of freedom where I have no superiors other than my customers whom happened to be good paymasters ... But downside is I'm earning RM300 less per month than my previous paid job because I'm hiring/train ppl to run business ... Will you leave the comfy job for the bigger challenge ? I've quit mine because ever since the Asian crisis, it has hit me that there is no longer such thing as job-security ... your job is secured as long as your company is doing well and vice versa ... what's your take ???

it depends on teh industry that you are working on. For example if you are a network engineer for a furtune 500 company, then you are going to open a consulting firm for networking/ something similar

I did exactly the same thing... spent almost a decade in corporate world, helping other people to get rich, consulting big companies with big cash to make even more cash.
At first I was no longer contented being bounded in a cubicle chasing after the same slab of cheese with all the other rats in a neverending rat race. sure there are ladders to climb, but I dint bother cause earlier on i've found out that u can go even higher faster by hopping. job hopped several times until there's no reason to hop anymore. so i left and joined a small start-up company... building it up from scratch, drafting company policies, setting up departments, creating job descriptions, hiring ppl to fill them, etc.
after the company is running the way it shud... its no longer challenging just standing around doing corporate services... so I quit. now i'm running my own business providing virtual assistance to new enterprise and startups. especially loan and grant application for SMEs... the pay is way less than i used to make as a hopping super rat... freedom? well being a super rat means u dont actually have to clock in like everybody else.. but on my own... what's to clock in? its a 24/7 job. benefits? none existence.... perks? its exhilarating, to be able to do what u love and be able to choose ur own customers.
being a small-business advisor, i get to choose my client and reject whom i dont like.... and its a joy to watch how the client is transformed from a stagnant, dead-end company into a dynamic and progressive venture....
but that's just me...
