My, how utterly satisfied you must be with your job.

Gents,

Is money really that important to you? How many threads are out there in this section of the forum with people looking for a job? And when they find the job, the b**** about the management, b**** about the pay and b**** about everything they hate about it.

This plainly shows where are maturity level. Really far behind in terms of developed nation.

Partially agreed. But look at the inflation we face here, petrol hiked, electricity hiked, later water hiked, what else...gula hiked, and so much more goin to hike...
If salary never hiked, and underpaid, how to survive? You contribute to your company, and your company should appreciate your contribution by taking care of employees' welfare.
Sometimes we need to be realistic a bit... just my 2 cents.

Heh people would not b**** if the company compensate the employee fairly for their worth. Unfortunately, its hard for an employee to negotiate a proper expected salary during the employment phase, because too many companies in this country understate the scope of work in the contract. In fact, a lot purposely do so, so often times you end up doing way more then the contract scope (this is especially true in the IT industry, one leg kick is a very common theme). Also, a lot of companies here do not practice adjustment for cost of living, which is just a bad policy in the part of the company. If the company is not being fair and professional in its treatment of its employees, it should not expect the same of its employees. Whining and beotching about it is justifiable, in fact I'd encourage people to do so. Keeping mum when you are being exploited only goes to show to the company/management that their from of tyranny is acceptable. This is not doing any favors to the employment industry as a whole.

I bet you're either on the other side of the fence (management) or you are one of the few lucky ones fairly compensated for your work.

In this age, no money no talk, yes money is important to me, isnt that same to you ? tongue.gif

OK be honest, before you ask for higher increment/salary, ask yourself, how much money you have earned for your company ? 10k per month ? and your company still dont want to let u have 1k ? then leave the company. If you only earn 2k for the company, do u expect u can get 1k back after tax, EPF, socso, claims, company maintenance ??

I m a programmer, last time i work like a dog, still salary is low, but compare to right now, my salary is much higher and I only spend 2-3 hours truely working daily. That does not means I earn lesser for my company, I just be more efficient, smart, lazy. Working long hours does not means anything if the end result is almost nothing. You always has to learn from mistake or think how to work smart, work less, work lazy, if first time you spend 5 hours solving a problem, you have to make sure the next time if encounter the same thing, it wont take more than 1 hour, dont do the same thing, take short-cut, dont just satisfy cause you manage to done something in 1 hour which suppose to be done in 5 hours, make it 5 mins next time, improvement is always good thing. If you does not want to improve your skill, your ability, it will be same to your salary, years of experience is nothing if you does not learn and improve.

First of all I don't think there is a general rule that you must have an increment upon confirmation. It varies from company to company and also depends on what you negotiated during the interview.

On one side, i agree with Darun and on the other side, i agree with Narf03.

Money is important to me. I am a fresh graduate, had been working for the past 8 months (i still consider myself as fresh) because i am still constantly learning and yes.. still making mistakes and learning from it.

I agree on Darun because, my job.. we really work like.. very very very super hard but the company does not compensate or appreciate what we do. Bonus is only a 13th month bonus, unlike some which are able to give you 2 months-6 months bonus (and still those ppl are complaining). Our increment is only RM50-RM150. RM150 if you're really good and reaaaallly lucky to have a good boss. Imagine an increment of such, after minus-ing EPF and stuff like that, what is RM50? For me, i always look at the bright (or positive) side of things. At least i am good enough that the company wants to give me an increment.

I agree on Narf03's point about.. how much do we actually 'make/contribute' to the company. Like for me, i'm still pretty junior, i don't think i can contribute like RM10k a month to the company hence asking for a RM300 increment. If you're good, your boss recognise then they will give you. For my case, so far that i know.. only 150 max (not managerial post ya).

So, in short.. i know i have been writing very long.. do appreciate what you have and be thankful lorrr... hehehe biggrin.gif

My increment is about 10%...hmm...I didn't nego for more...as the higher you asked, the more they will expect from you...indirectly put yourself under pressure...not the way I like...enjoy your work, that's the main thing for me. YMMV.
