The Version Y50 with 4K display doesn't have any variation with free dos yet I perhaps.... the free dos version are nice if just for using linux or windows 8 (non-pro)... I still have original windows 7 retail that can be use back with this laptop without extra spending on OS if there are free-dos version available... Hopefully there are free-dos version for this model in future ....
By the way I heard that some of you guys have problem with the keyboard right?.... maybe can advice us how to aggressively check this model keyboard key symptom before buying... because keyboard are the least of things that we check upon buying ....
Another Question, I google around and I'm a bit confused about the RAM upgrade for Y50 mode, anyone know the exact information?... if.. Y50 (based on ram model / firmware upgrade / etc) can be upgrade to 32GB or not? hehe... I'm Just hoping that it could... thinking to run parallel VM for my development environment .. anyone have any Idea / Theory or... the best if anyone have hands-on / practical on upgrading the RAM ...

there is not much of a problem other than some button being a little odd-sized if you're used to conventional usb keyboards. and you are wrong about the keyboard too, it's the first thing you check, the rest is just pure luck the current 8gb is good enough for your usage, but if you must then add another 8gb stick.

sent to comp shop and tell them u want replace thermal paste and clean the fan, should be around rm30 only or do it urself
Hi guys. I just gotten a y50 as a gift from a good friend of mine. However I am not sure what is the issue here. It just won't boot up. I press the power button but nothing comes up. The only thing I see is the orange light come up for a short seconds. I believe that is the batery indicator since it has a plus on it. I have already plugged in the charger but to no avail. Any idea guys
hmm the screen monitor is locked at 48hz refresh rate plus bad scaling issue while gaming in 1080p, imo not a right time to get y50 with 4k screen now.
i will not only consider buy 4k NB 2more yrs, but not now. most game does not support 4K, and GPU now still runs well.

OK problem solved. Just another question. Should I keep all the bloatwares? Or remove some?
does your set comes with any peripherals? I know mine is US set since the specs are slightly lower compared to the MY set plus the back of mine looks like yours.
Not too sure where to ask this but is there a way or tweak audios to be louder on Normal settings? I realized that movies being played are rather soft unless i turn on dolby. Musics that i play through other medias seems pretty loud even on Normal settings.
