Bro's...

anyone know how to take out player from panel? cvt here. i already brought new player and want DIY blush.gif
try to install myself. any tutorial will be grateful.

anyway happy chinese new year 2014.
*
1. Remove panel around gear lever. For manual it's only held by clips, no screws to remove, don't know about CVT.

2. Remove the cupholders and the panel as shown in the pic below. Once the visible screws are removed, the panel is held by clips and you have to pull very hard to loosen it. Remember to unplug the 12v power socket connector.

3. Screws holding down the HU and the storage compartment should be exposed, the two will come out together and you can then separate the HU from the compartment.

4. Most likely the plug for the stock HU will not fit your new HU, you either need an adapter, or in my case, cut the wires from the stock HU and attach to new HU.

davidke20 the P42 seatbelts does not have pre-tensioner??  ohmy.gif

From what I saw on the Gaga's retracting mechanism, my guess is that if you see any wire running from the mechanism, it has pre-tensioners. They usually go hand in hand with airbags.

Gaga is the mechanical/eletric type or pyrotechnic type?

I'm sure I didn't see any pyrotechnic mechanism on the seat belt retractor. Perhaps it's the electric type, though I didn't notice any wires. Too lazy to dismantle the plastics again yawn.gif

I'm not sure actually unsure.gif But regardless of which type, the fact that there is a wire to activate the pre-tensioners indicates its existence.

I solved it a few months ago. Spray WD40 (using the thin red colour hose) inside the rubber boot marked as "hydraulic plunger". Clutch is silent till this day.

Much nicer dial font than the Pevert/Supreemar. Though I still think VW's font looks best.

Before you start work you should disconnect your battery's negative terminal.

1. Remove air intake system. Just unbolt the hose and air box. Keep taking stuff out until the toto body is exposed.

2. Disconnect the electrical plug to the toto body.

3. Disconnect the bypass hose.

4. Use your 10mm wrench and undo the 4 bolts holding down the toto body.

5. Clean the toto body and reverse the steps for installation.

TitanRev Yes the TB bolts are 8mm not 10mm. Like you I used an extended socket wrench to remove them.

The procedure I followed was merely what I read from somewhere else. It didn't seem like a risky thing, after all as you pointed it's like disconnecting a PC hardware then reinstalling it. So when the CEL, overheating warning and uneven idling occurred I was very surprised. SC said I needed new ECU but I told them to check again. In the end changed three sensors - water temp, MAP and O2.

Needless to say I won't ever be doing this again.

It was last July so I can't remember that clearly. But I think I used a toothbrush to scrub it but it wasn't clean enough so I wiped with paper towels. Now that you mention the servo which moves the throttle, I may have accidentally damaged it when I forced it open so that I could wipe the sides thoroughly. I thought the throttle is just held shut by a spring.

After installation I connected back the battery and shot the video to check that the throttle was working. I didn't fire up the engine until the next day (Sunday). After 2-3 km, CEL came on, temp went up to 6 bars. Stopped at the side, opened the bonnet but didn't feel the engine was abnormally hot. Returned home immediately.

On Monday morning I dropped my car at the SC and went to work. Middle of the week the SA called and said my ECU is prolly damaged. After more diagnostics they changed those three sensors and I collected the Gaga on Saturday. They didn't show me any fault codes and I didn't drop by to visit during the week.

Around July last year my mileage was around 62-63k km.

Erm...I also have open the butterfly valve with hand but even it's a stepper motor it still have a return spring inside. ECU won't get damage easily unless it is subject to high current surge which could burn the capacitor, resistor, processors or short circuit. That's why ECU is mounted to car chassis so that it has enough ground and not mounted on plastic surface.

But if the MAP and O2 sensor is faulty you will immediately feel it. The car idle will become rough. Did you experience this when the CEL light comes up? For the Water temp sensor to shoot up to 6 bars (gradually or erratically?) If your cooling system not working the temp will gradually increase and not suddenly shoot up to a full 6 bar. This I suspect the the water temp sensor is giving false signal because water temp sensor use resistance to calculate the temp...the hotter the sensor gets the less resistance. If the temp shoot up all of a sudden to 6 bars this mean the sensor is suddenly subjected to a surge which gives the ECU a wrong reading. I have did this test before with a O2 sensor during my college project where we test sensors and how CEL lights comes on. We subject the O2 sensor with 5V and we plug in a 12V source to the sensor and the CEL lights comes on. For water temp, we did the same with a variable power supply. We started out with 1V then gradually increase then we monitor how the temp gauge goes up but we subject the sensor to a sudden increase and the gauge also suddenly shoots up to full overheat and CEL light also on.

This is just my theory that, maybe there was a surge when you where driving the car which causes the CEL to come up but the surge didn't damage the ECU instead might have damage the other sensors which is more susceptible to damage. Why I say this is because with your car's alternator not running which means not generating current it won't cause a surge. Surge can only happen when the alternator is running and producing current. Because your battery with the engine off is always on a constant 12V supply.

As for the TB cleaning, I only play with the throttle with the engine running and not in the ignition mode.
*
Interesting experiments there. As I remember, apart from the CEL and 6 bars on temp gauge, and the idling fluctuating between 1.5-2k RPM, the car felt normal. In fact on the way to the SC (about 15 km) I think the temp gauge went down to three bars as normal. Not sure bout the idling but the CEL was still on.

Your theory sounds quite plausible. Obviously I did not tell the SC about removing the TB and it's still working fine up till today. Which makes me wonder, if a surge did really take out those sensors, would a good VS had prevented it? hmm.gif

Also I was wondering if the high idle was deliberately induced by the ECU, it thinks the engine is overheating so it injects more fuel to cool it down hmm.gif

Hi guys.. ytday my front left tyre flat out because i hit something on hiway area rawang. After i change to emergency tyre , abs light is on in my metre. Eventhough is already stated in manual, but i curios why abs pop up if we use emergency tyre?
*
ABS works by constantly monitoring the speed of individual wheels. Your spare tayar is prolly a different size from the others so the rotation speed is different relative to other wheels, so this trips the ABS warning light.

Hello fellow Saga owners! I'm a newbie here, getting my FLX Super Veloce (SV) on next Saturday!  rclxm9.gif

Want to ask though, anyone using FM transmitter to play MP3 in the car from your iPhone/iPod?

Any recommended brand?  icon_question.gif

Forget about FM transmitters, the sound quality is rubbish. Head units which are iPong/iPork compatible start from about RM200 like this one. A good investment even if you're keeping the car for just a few years. Lots of head unit sellers in the Garage Sale forum.
