Hi, I hope you're doing well. May we see the result of the surgery? It would be much appreciated as I will be having my operation in PPUM in October. Hoping the surgery there is good.

Hi guys, hopefully this step by step explanation will help anyone who is having this problem. Right so the first step is to go to ppum and ask for a referral letter to do a ultrasound screening of the breast. You can do it at any private hospital. Cost about RM200. Then once you have that done, go to PPUM on a WEDNESDAY. The breast doctor is only available on Wednesdays. He will examine the breast tissue and decide whether or not a surgery will be provided. After that, the appointments are set up. Waiting time is usually two months. I went in August and the surgery will take place at the end of October. Before the surgery, they'll take your blood about two weeks before the surgery (one appointment). Then they'll examine your blood about a week before the surgery (another appointment). Then finally comes the surgery (another appointment). After the surgery, you'll have tubes coming out of you which connects to bottles to colllect blood or excess fluids. Doc said that it'll take one week to heal from that post surgery. After one week the tubes and bottles will be removed (last appointment) . After that, you're good to go.Hopefully smile.gif Though I'm not entirely sure as I have not gone through the entire process. So far this is what I know.

Yes, thanks for the advice Bro. Will pray for you. May I know what this appointment on 25/9 is about? When did they take out the tubes from your body? 7 days after surgery is that correct?

Thank you! I created my profile just recently to help others on this issue. Been reading this thread for years. But no one has given a detailed step by step explanation. So I decided to contribute to the community. Hopefully it has helped you or anyone else reading this. smile.gif

where do we go to diagnose if we have it and which type we have? PPUM?

Hi! So diagnostics will come with the Ultrasound Screening. From there they will know whether or not you have breast tissues. Breast tissues and Muscle tissues are different. In the unltrasound image you can see the breast tissue. This is done at a private hospital. When you go to ppum, please bring the ultrasound image. The surgeon in ppum will check on your chest. To determine whether or not they'll do a surgery. If the breast tissues are small, they probably wouldn't and you will have to go to a private cosmetic surgeon to get it done unfortunately. If it is large, then they will probably take you in. The type of gynecomastia that you have doesn't really matter I guess. The larger it is, the higher your chances of getting the operation done in ppum. Pusat Perubatan University Malaya. Go to the surgery clinic there. Just ask the police or the nurses where is the surgery clinic.

Hi redz93,
Just wanted to know whether you were under General Anesthesia? Also, did they perform the surgery just under the nipples or across your upper body? Sorry, cause my surgery is coming and I'm feeling a bit scared. Haha

Hi everyone, so just wanted to do a recap/update. This is what I went through. It may be different for you. Sorry for any errors. First, get a referral letter from a general clinic. Then go to PPUM surgery clinic, get another referral letter for ultrasound. KPJ Hospital requires this, I don't know. Again this is from my experience. Go to PPUM surgery clinic on a Wednesday with the documents. You will be consulted by a doctor. If the doctor wants to go ahead with surgery then the appointment will be set up. Two months waiting time usually. Two weeks before surgery. Go to anaesthetic clinic to take your blood. Immediately after that the anaesthetist will ask you to buy the medicine you need for the surgery and post surgery. They will give you a number, and you have to go to the pharmacist to buy the medicine. Wait for your number, buy your medicine, you have the option of storing your medicine with the pharmacist or bring it back home. I stored mine with the pharmacist, and on the day of surgery, I took it from the pharmacist after about 8 am since that's when they open. Remember to give them the queue number that you were given to identify your medicine. If you take it back home, remember to bring it on the day of surgery. Up to you. On the day of surgery, You must come with someone. Go to the surgery floor, they will tell you where it is beforehand. Give your documents. Pay for the surgery at the payment counter. The surgery is RM 550. You can pay with card. Get your medicine from the pharmacist if you left it with them. They open at 8am. Once you've paid and gotten your medicine, go back to the surgery floor. Give the nurses your medicine. Give your family or relative your things. And wait. It's a long wait. 3-4 hours. Just sit there and relax. They will call your name. Go through the process and then the operation. You'll breath in the gas. And you will fall asleep immediately. You wake up dizzy and in slight pain in the chest area. You will have to move a bit and they will take you to a ward. You will stay overnight or have a daycare surgery. It's up to them. I stayed overnight. Food was provided. I just slept the whole day. I could barely move due to the tubes and the bottle and the pain. I stayed for one night and went home the next morning with the tubes and bottles attached to me. This is to take the blood and fluids out of the body to avoid seroma. You'll be like this for the next few days. I had a problem with my tube. Basically I was bleeding out of the hole in my right chest. My patch/dressing was soaked with blood. Went to ER, got the dressing changed. That's it. Not a big problem. My surgery was on a Friday. They wanted to take the tubes out on Monday. I came on Monday but they told me it wasn't time yet so come back on Wednesday. I went back home and waited till Wednesday. On Wednesday I came at 9 am to the surgery clinic. You don't need to take a number. They will tell you where to go. The nurse decided that they can take the tubes out now. So on Wednesday the tubes were out. And I felt great. She just put a gauze and tape on the holes so that you dont bleed. After a few hours. You can take them off and start bathing normally. You can get your whole body wet with water and soap. No problem. Just don't be too rough. Before taking the tubes out, you can only bath by wiping a wet towel over yourself. So after the tubes are out. It's time for your post op appointments. My first post op appointment is coming this Wednesday. Right so how does the chest look. The incision is long. Not just under the nipples for my case. But I don't think it'll leave a big scar since it's a very small incision. It's small but long. Left chest is looking great! Swelling has lessen. And the wound is already healing. Right side, not so great. My right nipple is still A BIT puffy. Just VERY slight puffiness. This is probably due to under resection OR swelling. I'm hoping it's swelling because swelling will go away and the nipple would look okay after sometime. Under resection is where the doctor did not remove enough breast tissue and so the nipples are still puffy. Over resection is also a problem as it would lead to inverted nipples. So the doctor needs to get it right. If the doctor doesn't, then you may need to do another surgery if you're not happy with it. For me, I don't know as it's only been two weeks. My right chest is still swollen. But the swelling has lessen. I'm hoping that after the swelling is gone, everything will be fine. Will know more after my first post op appointment. Will keep you guys updated. Also, just some tips, bring a bag to carry the bottles around in front of you. They don't provide compression garments. You need to buy one outside. I bought an underarmour shirt which hopefully is good enough. Any type of compression shirt should be good. But it won't be as good as an actual compression garment I'm sure.
