When downloading with BitComet, i cannot sign in my msn messenger and the surfing speed damn slow, is there any way to improve it?

I noticed a weird situation. When i launch my BitComet, my BitComet shows few kBps downloading speed while i haven't start downloading my tasks. How come?
 I am using version 0.96 . |
