Should be okay. But in this case i guess ur bichir is already dominant. Quite hard to do it, but theres always a way. Tried having bigger fishes than ur bichir?
*
My bichir is about 30cm, I tried kelisa and belida about 5cm longer, got bitten in the head.

QUOTE(irsyadfy @ Mar 4 2015, 04:52 AM)
try to put ur bichir out for few days when introducing a new fish. make the bichir feels like a new home with new fish.

or maybe rearrange aqua when introducing.

only my 2 cents. this idea come from aimank and awansakti. me noob fishkeeper.
*
I always do that when trying to introduce new friend to any predatory fish. after few weeks, bitten.

I want to try oscar, but I think oscar is to aggressive. I guess forever alone.

u put oscar and bichir? I thougt oscar is like flowerhorn. very aggressive and territorial. my endlicheri bichir is very passive. they only bite when other fish swim near their head.

U gotta handle the aggression. My oscar is quite passive, sometimes timid. In fact, all of my fishes are peaceful. I can even stroke my gar with my hand. Haha

If adding new fish, add during water change. This time all fishes are kinda shocked or nervous, so they kinda stick together during cleaning. Best time so that they could do ice breaking and know each other. Lol

If one fish is too aggressive, separate temporarily in another place, another aquarium or lets say a bucket, leave it for 15 mins or so. While waiting, rescape the tank, as in changing position of ur driftwoods or stones or whatever. Then put in the fish, this resets the mindset of the fish as it thinks its in a new environment. Itll be a bit more timid.

Size too is another factor. Usually the bully is the biggest.

What i do, i research and carefully pick what fish to comm together in a tank. Other than similar water requirements, i find out their aggressiveness. Sometimes in the internet descriptions are utter bull, so i watch youtube on peoples fish. Better info as people are talking from experience. This way, I always make sure that only 1 fish is dominant, and the others are passive. And the dominant is the one that is generally known as aggressive. That way the aggression is dispersed easily as the most aggressive fish knows its dominant, it doesnt feel threatened and wont bully much.

And lets say i have a bully in my tank fighting to be dominant, what i do, ill interfere myself. Put ur hand in, or a stick and bully the fish everytime it tries to pick a fight. Works for me. smile.gif

Then again, fish behaviour are not general. Different fish have their own characteristics. Just maintain the best water parameters and proper diet.
*
my bichir easily stressed out, especially the big one, it will jump and knock my cheap plastic aquarium cover and banging the tank until its lips become red sweat.gif

so I will avoid changing the environment, unless I have bigger tank. currently using 4 feet only..

aimank very pro. clap clap.
u got open fish class? 3 am morning ha? ahha. jk jk

on serious note akhmedisonline,
my oscar is very dominant yet dominant in his own territory.
anyone who enters his territory will only be bitten. thou not dead just bite to harass i can say.

yea there is biting here and there, but so far they are living happily smile.gif
*
Yes, I tried 1 oscar, it never kill the bichir, because of the tough scale, but all the fins are nipped, then I remove the oscar because poor bichir, chased around.

Hows ur water parameters, temp, pH, hardness? Ammonia levels? That can be a factor too. And feeding period ?
*
temp, doesn't measure. I think malaysia have suitable climate for the fish. the tank is in non air cond room.
pH the last time I check is 6.5. only check after cycling the water or after cleaning tank, so now not sure. also cant find my testing kit.
I feed twice per day, morning and night, because that is when my bichir is most active. small , and medium sized sanyu and hikari sinking pellets.

actually, I can put my hand and clean the tank, the fish will not stressed, but when introducing new fish then it become crazy.

pH is just nice. Temp is quite important, and nowadays not that suitable. Unless in lakes, yes, the temp is quite stable. but in our tanks, not that stable. My room is extra hot(coz direct sun la), highest water temp recorded was a whopping 32C. Imagine the room temp. tongue.gif Thats very bad. 26-28C max is ideal..

Hikari pellets are awesome, but then again hows the ammonia level? I feed 2-3 times a week, 4 times at most coz i dont have good biomedias.  sweat.gif

Not to scare you la, just to rule out everything else, then can focus back on aggression..  smile.gif
*
I didn't measure the ammonia, because I use this cannister filter that have all 3 types of filtration. So I assume that it is safe, the tauke that I brought from say also no worry. also the testing kit is out of my budget.

u feed only 2-3 times per week, I feed twice per day.

btw, what fish do you have?

Its not the canister, its the biomedia. Haha. So what kind of biomedia u use, and how many, and whats the capacity of the canister? As in how many liter per hour? People usually measure with the ammonia produced from feeding. Quite interesting process to go through!

I have a gar, an oscar, a channa aurantimaculata, and 2 endli bichirs.. Feed them tilapia feeders, sometimes hikari sinking pellets for the bichirs, and crickets/mealworms for channa.. Using sump filter..
*
Don't know. I use tetra ex power 1200. you should take a look.

so many big fish especially gar. how big is your tank or pond?

*
Maybe, but I have only 1 30cm endli in 4 feet tank, ur tank is only 6 feet but have gar, toman and arowana. especially the toman. I thought they are very predatory.

how many times you feed them per day?

Plus, bichirs, gars can starve for few months, arowana amd tigers can starve for 1 month... So u can imagine how much energy they consume... Very little..
*
Well, I feed them to reduce the aggression. Like if you eat less, you become more active, you eat more you become lazy.
I've been wasting fish food..
