Should be okay. But in this case i guess ur bichir is already dominant. Quite hard to do it, but theres always a way. Tried having bigger fishes than ur bichir?
My bichir is about 30cm, I tried kelisa and belida about 5cm longer, got bitten in the head.

try to put ur bichir out for few days when introducing a new fish. make the bichir feels like a new home with new fish.
or maybe rearrange aqua when introducing.
only my 2 cents. this idea come from aimank and awansakti. me noob fishkeeper.
I always do that when trying to introduce new friend to any predatory fish. after few weeks, bitten.
I want to try oscar, but I think oscar is to aggressive. I guess forever alone.
