1. because they buy in bulk and in cash
2. because they have a good system to distribute their goods 3. because they are not greedy - want high profits but low sales. Instead, low profits but higher sales |

Plus he keep his overhead down. Hypermarket go built big big building in new area to attract customers to come, he go scout around neighbourhood for shoplot to rent.
Hypermarket keep everything, every pack size for variety, he just keep certain items, certain pack size. |

He is the boss. He is not loan shark
![]() "To get good discounts he makes things easy for suppliers. Big stores are notorious for dragging out payments. At 99 Speedmart, vendors can usually complete the process of negotiating price, getting the current order and collecting payment for an earlier order within 30 minutes. They appreciate Lee’s square dealings. “We’ve not lost sleep because we found him to be very honest, and he has a strong trade reputation,” says the national sales manager for a global food and beverage company that he didn’t want named. some speedmart items can be a few bucks cheaper than normal supermarket item. eg. a 500g box of sultanas at speedmart = rm11.8 while other supermarket charges rm14.xx. That's rm2 savings that goes into my pocket

but some items are expensive compare wih other shops or supermarket... what i like the most is their price for formula milk for my kids... 1.8kg only RM46... while others sell RM49-RM50 same brand and weight... This post has been edited by Darkz01: Jan 16 2014, 03:14 PM |

Speedmart99 most of the time their goods are cheaper than Tesco, Giant, Aeon, etc.
On the other hand, others sometimes give higher discount but for a short limited time. E.g. baby diapers Drypers. I remember S99 ~rm34 for XL pack (with the free 8pcs promo) most of the time, but Giant/Tesco/Aeon can sell for rm29-30 of the same pack during its 1week (or whatever period) discount.. BUT seriously very fast clearance. Every cart will have at least 2-5 packs. Also, Speedmart99 accepts CC but above RM50 if not mistaken. |

QUOTE(Syafiqa Nineten @ Jan 16 2014, 12:08 PM) mereka ada banyak branch di malaysia. ada 199 branch (sekarang dah 200++) ambil barang kuantiti.dan barang mereka konsisten. kalau branch kat perak ada cap minyak dacing kat selangor mesti ada cap minyak dacing jugak. kalau ada tepung cap bulan 10 pcs kat branch lain pun ada 10pcs. tidak kurang tidak lebih.speedmart punya branch (each branch) simple. di depan pintu masuk ada 2 kaunter. both of them same operation. lighting mereka pun bagus dan terang. mengikut pengiraan aku. renovation Speedmart memerlukan RM 200k di kawasan aku sini saja dah ada 3 branch speedmart. |

QUOTE(takde hal @ Jan 17 2014, 07:36 PM) I used to work in Tesco. Do you know that they throw away thousands and thousands of trays of perfectly good chicken eggs every single week ? do u know why it was marked 'throw'?Those of us who worked in Tesco tried to buy those eggs before they throw them away but the management forbid us from doing so. For them anything that is marked "throw" must be "throw". do u know why when marked throw, must throw? |

I heard they are being investigated for money laundering, dont get me wrong, they dont pay cash to vendors, the fastest vendor that gets paid is the ciggy vendors like BAT, PMI, JTI etc, other than that is 14, 30, 60 or 90 days from invoice acceptance. His wife has another company under her thats supplying goods to 99, seldom sees her (maybe busy with kids) but she holds very little shares in 99 (surprising). Banks are worry abt exposure to 99 due to Mr Lee's condition... He's a great man indeed, very hands on, very humble but the history behind his success some people in Klang would know.... Rumours has it, he was selling pirated DVD, got caught by police and release out of sympathy etc etc...
The vendors are required to pay/contribute ard RM130 for each store they open hence basically 99 doesnt need to fork out much for investment accept. Their rental is cheap and their concept does work, they dont need high margin, provides employment to plenty, low operating cost, low cost of manpower, Mr Lee is very hands on but the amount of cash............ Can't reveal more.... my only hope is his sucess is blessed on his true ability and the workable concept of his stores which is similar to 7-11 and conquering Klang Valley entirely...
