Thing is will your grandkid want it? Even for some of us, we already don't really like some old fashioned things passed down from out parents, I won't be surprise future generation no longer use the traditional watch and go for smartwatch instead.

because fine timepiece is not something they appreciate. because the "clock" on their 2k smartphone which synchronizes with atomic clocks every other hour is going to be more accurate than any mechanical timepiece in the world. because their 2k smartphone not only has a "clock" but it has an alarm build in, with snooze features.

do not push your views onto others. they are probably thinking we are crazy spending so much for an item that *only* tells time.

they look at it from a function standpoint, and yes, the smartphone can do so much more..check email on the go, send schedulers, book air tickets.. so on and so forth.

Hardly, I'd think that my funds manager is doing a great job at being frugal and practical. He knows how to put things to multiple use, like a phablet. Sure as hell comfortable to put my money with him. If he's wearing a Panerai, he's a show off rooster sucker. (Probably sucking me since I'm his client.) Or he is plain clueless. Neither good scenario good for me.

If he's wearing a Rolex, then I know my money is in good hands.

A watch should not cost more than a month salary and a real man shouldn't be struggling for vanity purchase.
