Takde sebab pun diorang tak tolong. Kalau diorang dalam masalah sama dekat2 perairan kita, rasanya kita pun tolong. Operasi humanitarian macam ni tak patut dilibatkan politik.

we're past that...now waiting for s400 export version that the russian will sell it either 2014 or 2015... The waiting list is already queue up. I don't know whether we will join the list or not...depends on the budget allocation.

Probably cannot afford. Malaysia anti-aircraft system are quite outdated in my view. Our best AA weapon, the Jernas (Rapier) Missile is already nearly 20 years old now. Can it catch up with new tech aircraft like Gen 3.5 or 4 fighter aircrafts? Other missile systems are MANPADS (Man-portable Air defence system) like IGLA or Starburst that are,in my opinion only effective in defending against helicopters and are not so effective against modern fast-flying aircraft. Autocannons like the Oerlikon 35mm and Bofors 40mm are only useful in point-defence situations. I believe we never had long-range SAM systems, amirite?

Also lacking are SPAAG (Self-propelled Anti-Aircraft gun) Mobile AA systems like the Flakpanzer, ZSU-23-4, Pantsir or Tunguska which are very, very important in protecting army formations on the move. While the best air defence weapon is a fighter aircraft, backup AA systems are essential because fighters may have be deployed elsewhere or may have not the time to respond to a surprise air attack by low flying fighter-bombers or attack helicopters.

If macai logic is to be trusted,Malaysia would have been lost years ago everytime US warship does port calls.

US carriers make port visits to Malaysia nearly every year,no big deal. Smaller vessels make a port call in Malaysia every month I think.

Reports also said some armored vehicles are seen burning, but whether they belong to government or separatists is still unknown.

Operations are reportedly still ongoing. More updates as they happen.

We will see,if any violence breaks. but I hope not, for now methinks this move just to pressure Viet government to keep a lid on anti-china protests.

Anyway, modern day PLA is not the PLA in 1979, so if violence breaks, hard to see how PAV would react. PLA now top 5 in global military power.

For good measure, PLA-Navy is sending its largest naval vessels to protect the Haiyang Shiyou 981 oil rig set up in China-Vietnam disputed waters to safeguard against any Vietnamese action.

Ships include the Yushan-class Amphibious warfare ships Kunlun Shan AND its sister ship Jinggang Shan & also the Jiangwei-class missile frigate Mianyang.

Meanwhile in Ukraine, Pro-Russian separatist militia kill 16 Ukrainian soldiers and injure 30 at checkpoint in eastern Ukraine.
According to witnesses,it's reported the militias hid in armored vans with markings of Privatbank (A banking company). When soldiers see these vans, they waved them on without even checking. After a bit the van stopped, Pro-Russian militias poured out of these vans and slaughtered all the soldiers there. Militia side report just 1 militiaman is dead from this. A lot of military vehicles, including 2 BMP-2 IFVs were destroyed.

In facing global challenges, China's leadership seeks to transform military into a more modern force

Chinese President Xi Jinping has vowed to bring the PLA into the modern age. Although the PLA has modern equipments and a more disciplined corps, it is still organized along the lines of a million-man peasant military force from when the People's Liberation Army (PLA) was created by Mao Zedong in the 1950s.

Plans are afoot to reform the People's Liberation Army into a smaller, more mobile & professional ground force and a more independent & assertive PLA-Air Force and PLA-Navy.
