Just sharing.I DIY a cheapo dry container using an airtight container with a big pack of desiccant silica and a thirsty hippo dehumidifier. Being using it to keep my cameras, VHS home video collection etc... so far so good, no mold building up. This post has been edited by aeiou228: Jan 9 2014, 12:01 AM |

QUOTE(zhiyilim @ Jan 8 2014, 11:46 PM) I plan to buy a dry cabinet but is there any difference between an analog version with digital version? The only difference is the humidity reader. Some may say that the digital version is more accurate. I beg to differ, the accuracy of the digital version is not much different compared to the analog version. They're about 5% to about 15% off. There is also a third type, Digital closed loop type cabinet. I'm currently using this, basically just key in the desired humidity level and the de-humidifier will automatically run till it reaches that amount. |

QUOTE(aeiou228 @ Jan 9 2014, 12:00 AM) Just sharing. u got to make sure you have a hygrometer in there as if the humidity level gets too low then it will dry up the plastic or rubber parts and will crack or disintegrate ..I DIY a cheapo dry container using an airtight container with a big pack of desiccant silica and a thirsty hippo dehumidifier. Being using it to keep my cameras, VHS home video collection etc... so far so good, no mold building up. hygrometer should be 45 - 50% |

QUOTE(earl-ku @ Jan 9 2014, 07:19 AM) u got to make sure you have a hygrometer in there as if the humidity level gets too low then it will dry up the plastic or rubber parts and will crack or disintegrate .. Humidity meters at consumer level is not super accurate as the accuracy will run once temperature go too high or low.. You need to know what sensor it is using and what is its effective calibrated working temperature.. For most of our needs, it will do the job. Bottom line is be consistent and it is done.hygrometer should be 45 - 50% As for digital reading... important factor is close loop.. Else you will be tweeking your box like no tomorrow just to get it to a range you desire.. Each time you open the box, humidity will go up and you will have to wait ages for it to be right-- depending on ambient condition.. a real pain. Why they dont make it close loop, I cannot understand. The electronic bits are dirt cheap these days and lots cheaper in bulk purchase! I use the AIPO and is good enough.. Dont remember paying that much for the size you are looking... but it could have naik a lot since .... |
