Hi guys,

Have you heard about Xiaomi phone before? How about MIUI ROM? wub.gif

Please refer here for more info : http://www.xiaomi.com/en/about

Xiaomi has been producing phones since last few years including Mi-1s, Mi-2, Mi-2a, Mi2s, Hongmi and the latest one Mi-3. Please refer here http://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3?sQuic...es&sName=xiaomi .

Without doubt, their products among the best Android phones out there but unfortunately their phones sold only in China.

Hugo Barra, former Google VP in charge of Android, has just made it official on his Google+ page that Xiaomi phone is coming to Singapore, with "details coming soon..."

I want to ask you guys, let say IF Xiomi phones come to Malaysia:

1) Which system languages should they include in their ROM for Malaysia?

2) Which language should be the default, and what is the order in which they should display them all in the startup screen?

3) What other features do u expect should come with Xiaomi phones?

I love to hear your opinions. Do reply here pls notworthy.gif

I'm asking this questions because most of us using Android phone and some of us already used MIUI ROM on their Android phone icon_rolleyes.gif

p/s : We already setup a group to translate MIUI ROM from English to Malay. Please refer here

The results of this Survey will be submitted to Xiaomi notworthy.gif

For 1) and 2), just refer to other manufacturers phone like Samsung, HTC, etc, should be safe.

For 3), what kind of features do you mean?

1. default should be english, cause we are used to english android
2. english, malay then chinses
3. I'd be expecting a very well sufficient RAM implementation, 2GB is needed nowadays unless they are really well optimized on usage on 1GB, no freaking bloatwares! USB audio support like iDevices, 24/96 audio format support

1) All current ones supported by Google at least (chinese, malay is the bare minimum)
2) English -> BM -> Chinese
3) Must be super featured -> today launch in china, today available in malaysia with all bloatwares preinstalled, but removeable via root which is warranty safe. no knox bull, no locked bootloader bull

1) English
2) English > BM > Mandarin
3) 2GB Ram (tho 1GB is enough), Good quad-core processor, 8mp camera and above, NFC, Wireless Charging, quick updates - no bloatware, no manufacture widgets.

Android is multi language even for XiaoMi phone buy at China.

It is default Chinese but anytime can switch to English.

But... XiaoMi phone purchase at China didn't have Play Store by default, it do allow you manually install back.

Because China no longer have Google service, so anything about Google don't have, even the default bundle search engine is Baidu.

----------------------------------------
So for me, if XiaoMi came to Malaysia, Play Store and all basic Google service should bundle as default.

languages is not important as Android is multi language.

All Android phone is full with nearly all languages.

For Chinese, both must be put in, some people prefer traditional than simplified. Especially older people as they learn is traditional not simplified.

This is not true. Phones are customized per region. Like samsung have csc and not all languages are included. So android phone will not have ALL languages. Normal users that do not root might not get the language they want so its better to list it out and inform the manufacturer on what we want.

I never said all languages, but certain main languages will be there. I don't think any manufacture stupid enough only put 1 or 2 languages, it is not like the languages occupied a lot of space.

Most common language use in Malaysia is there already for China set. Nothing much need to worried and inform the manufacturer I believe.

Open-source their source codes, since MIUI is closed-source.

Anyway, as for languages, follow like old Nokia way will do.
Default language should be English.
In Malaysia, there're only 4 (or 5) main languages - Simplified Chinese, Malay, English and Hindi. Optional is Traditional Chinese and Arabic.
Neighbouring country languages is a good addition - Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, etc.

I use 1st MIUI ROM when they just appear for Google Nexus One. I am even one of the translator for communicate between MIUI.COM v/s XDA that time, my name even appear there in thanks list, haha! So Happy that time. tongue.gif

MIUI get famous that time as MIUI success break it 1st and make the Google Nexus One fully working on FM Radio which don't have such feature in default ROM.

After MIUI grow strong, they got their own group already and no need any translator.

MIUI is cool with fancy themes, but some themes certain wording is in Chinese due to 99% is design by China user.

My last MIUI ROM use is that XiaoMi Mi2. I use it for around 2 to 3 weeks.

--------------------------------------------------------------
MIUI is cool but too iOS style with extra themes support.

I used MIUI on HD2 since a long time ago.
Yesterday, I reinstalled MIUI, and am surprised at the changes.
Too bad, it's still on 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Oh ya, forgotten that you were the 1st one to void warranty.
Chainfire still didn't update his discovery on how to reset KNOX counter.
I'm afraid to help my girlfriend's Note 2 to update to 4.3 because of the implementation of KNOX.

Yes, they really customise everything 9696.
Hopefully Hugo Barra will really make MIUI open-source, so XiaoMi devices will get popular.

There's a guy sharing his experience in XDA.
He took his Note 3 to service centre because spoilt or something similar.
At the same time, he also tripped his KNOX counter.
But when he took back, he noticed that the service centre resetted his KNOX counter to 0.
This makes everyone think that this is a software, just like our previously infamous yellow triangle.

I think it's Google who did not want the Gapps to be included in the ROM. That's why after flashing ROM or any customs rom, we need to seperately flash gapps zip file

Hmm, they've their own market, don't they?
I know GApps cannot be bundled together with any custom ROM.

That's the only thing I don't like about MIUI.
1. Slow updates.
2. Closed-source.
3. No custom ROMs.

honestly,i like xiaomi but i dont like miui style thingy. but i saw their presentation on the other day and i do impressed,eg their cloud service.
-for me,a trusted dealer and alots of service centre should be enough, language wise i just use english only,so it doesnt matter.
-for feature, just keep it like it was,as long as they promise me a day of battery life, couldn't be more happy biggrin.gif

*
I don't think Chainfire will doing it, as he don't care about it.

XiaoMi can only go worldwide if XiaoMi remove it own Apps Store as that store is completely pirated. Every paid apps can download it FOC.

Hopefully Hugo Barra can make huge changes on it.

Yes any OEM wants to include gapps in their device must pass the Google CTS, that's why some OEM like Amazon and XiaoMi do not include gapps because they can't pass the test. But recently CyanogenMod passed the CTS test for their ROM on Oppo N1

Yes, I know they've updates on every Fridays.
The updates as in Android version updates.
They're still on 4.2.2 Jelly Bean now and nowhere at 4.3 or KitKat.

MIUI? I would say a themed OS, eg Sense, TouchP*ss, etc.

Ya, Chainfire is now in Omni, so he doesn't have to worry anymore.
Besides that, ex-CM developers like Entropy512, XplodwilD and codeworkx has gave up on Shamesung already.

I wonder why XiaoMi employ Hugo Barra.
Is it so simple as to penetrate/promote XiaoMi in SEA region?

English language is a must. Serious, aku xbole nak operate Malay language when it comes to phone or computer. Setting = Tetapan or Ubah? Bahasa teknikal/IT jargon susah nak phm bila di translate.

For the phone:
1) service centre is a must
2) 2GB ram
3) external card
4) 5" is fine
5) quad core yes MTK pun boleh
6) 3k mAh at least
7) DUal sim is good but optional, not like im gonna use this for call/sms since you can't beat NCOKIA is term of standby and size.
8) LTE optional since I never tried it but mayb I'll be hooked by the speed. 720p/1080p streaming ftw
9) Jangan la mahal sangat bang 1.5-1.7k pun orait. 1.2k take my money if above list is met.

IMHO I think MIUI is better than stock android in some aspects, for example their permission manager is really much better than the stock android's. Better than Sammy's touchjizz biggrin.gif

UK or US English don't really matter.
Since our English follows UK English, then set UK English as default.

But too bad, OK Google in KitKat only allows US English.

Been using Xiaomi ROM on my S3 for the past 5 months.

Here's my feedback:

1) English (US & UK), Malay, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Tamil. Optional is Vietnamese, Thai, Hindi, Urdu (if they want to penetrate the not inconsiderable lower end of the market)

2) English US. We may be a former British Colony, but srsly these days most people are used to US English anyways

3) Some of their cloud directory stuff looks potentially really useful but needs to be customized to our local numbers

1) English. Malay.
2) English UK, although many set US as the default.
3) - Qiblat direction.
- Some hardware/app that can project whatever is being displayed on the phone to the targeted screen/area. App-wise, something like Nokia Beamer?
- An instant @ on-the-fly visual translator? (using the phone's cam) Useful if u're in a foreign country with foreign language/text u can't understand.

highly rootable and developer friendly, run pure aosp rom like nexus device, with higher spec than nexus device. then it's a instant win for me. also price between 1500 - 2000. for a unknown brand here, they got to be priced aggresively
