Just a thought, maybe it's more effective to ask Nestle to bring in Nexus 5 instead of LG Malaysia.

QUOTE(Someonesim @ Jan 27 2014, 11:50 PM) Not surprise, just like the guy said, Nexus is threatening other manufacturer as it's getting much more popular now. Everyone was talking how fast Nexus was and how much bloatware other manufacturer's flagship. I think it doesn't really matter about having Nexus or not. If it's Google Play devices, that's even a more cruel comparison between Play and non-Play variants. While I don't know what's the difference between a Play and non-Play S4 (or LG G Pad, these are the serious offenders), but it's not good for makers to continue get bashed for including bloatware for the same hardware. If I were Samsung, I won't bother making Play devices then. Having the Nexus line is better still for Google, as it can continue exerting pressure to makers to not skin the interface extensively. If Sony and Motorola (and to some extent, HTC) can cut down on customisation, so should Samsung and LG.If true, I'm going for Motorola or Oppo then . . . . |

QUOTE(Peculator @ Jan 27 2014, 11:59 PM) The title says they might, so only time will tell. If that's the case, please give HTC the chance to make it. Although it's practically impossible given its higher cost in sourcing from suppliers instead of in-house.Perhaps 2014 will be the last Nexus brand manufactured. |

This Google Play location services is starting to get on my nerve, keep waking my phone and prevent WiFi from going off. Now trying the Snapdragon Guru to see how it works.
May consider root. Do I still get direct OTA if I stay on stock ROM with root privilege? |

QUOTE(xxdesire @ Jan 28 2014, 03:31 PM) Yes, as long as you're on stock ROM and kernel. and also I believe if you don't mess with the system files May get noFrill or setCPU (what's the best downclock apps now?) to downclock and change the governor. Perhaps a little bit of Xposed module?Do CM, PA or AOKP provide quick OTA now? My only issue with custom ROM is the annoyance to go into recovery and flash the update very often. Has there been a good workaround now? My last extensive custom ROM experience was back in 2012. LOL! |

QUOTE(Ahmaz @ Jan 28 2014, 03:48 PM) I can only speak for CM since I use it extensively. You can search for new CM OTAs manually from the settings menu and it'll handle the update for you. Sounds neat. So I don't need to enter recovery myself to flash the zip? Or I still need to, just there will be scripts to run everything for me?Alternatively, you can get the official CM installer app + desktop app and it'll do everything needed to get CM on your phone for you in a few clicks. http://beta.download.cyanogenmod.org/install QUOTE(xxdesire @ Jan 28 2014, 03:56 PM) I believe using Xposed changes some system files so you won't get OTA. however, if you update, you'll lose root (just maybe fyi Hmm, what custom ROM do you use? Prefer to run things in an easy to manage manner - not some custom ROM + custom kernel and whenever there's an update, I'll have to mess with everything again. Not sure. Quite some time I haven't use CM/PA ( I don't use AOKP ) Lol, they have updates but not very frequent (except CM nightlies probably). Maybe you can flash the updates once every fortnight or month. |

QUOTE(Ahmaz @ Jan 28 2014, 04:09 PM) I personally don't use the CM Installer as I use the recovery method to flash the exact ROM version I want (nightly or stable or snapshot etc..) Sounds like an easy option. Let's see what can I do in the next few days.I don't think you will need to go through the recovery if you use the CM Installer way; even if you do, I heard it's guided really well, almost no chance to make mistake one |

Finally got my first charge that I am satisfied with on stock ROM. 18 hours on battery with about 2.5 hours SOT, battery <20%. WiFi off almost all the time and that makes Google Services taking only 4% (probably that disables the constant location pooling). Who knows keeping WiFi on actually drains more battery.

QUOTE(jackal75 @ Jan 29 2014, 02:14 PM) 18 hrs consider a bit low with just 2.5 hours SOT. I can get up till 2 days + with almost 3 hrs SOT with stock ROM. You may need to check what drawing the power. Is yours on WiFi most of the time? |

QUOTE(Ahmaz @ Jan 29 2014, 02:31 PM) my wifi on always. I don't expect much battery saving in Waze la, can't expect that la when we are running the screen on, pinning on GPS locations and pulling data all the time - almost all the culprits of battery draining gather together.Waze is definitely a battery drainer btw. Not only does it keep screen on (obviously for GPS), but it pings for information a lot more than say.. Google Maps. EDIT: You might reduce its sucking power by playing around in Waze settings (set it so that traffic updates only occur on your journey and not traffic updates from everywhere else) Thanks for the tips though, saw the setting about changing traffic updates. Hope it helps out. |

QUOTE(jackal75 @ Jan 29 2014, 03:24 PM) WiFi on all the time. I have WiFi on but not connected all the time previously. Turned out it drains battery badly because Google is constantly pooling location data. My latest result is based on WiFi off - which stops the services Google uses to pool location and my phone sees notable improvement in idling mode.WiFi save more power compare to using LTE or 3G. If possible, install the Battery Monitor Widget. It got an option to show history of yr battery consumption. Then you will be able to tell when is the time the battery used most. Then try to recall what you doing then. I knew about BMW (the app, not the car |

QUOTE(infernoaswen @ Jan 29 2014, 04:59 PM) Speaking about screen protectors, my bulk is closing soon. Who else are interested to join the glass screen protector & also wireless charger? After this bulk I am not sure I will be continue doing it or not, seems like interested buyers are decreasing already Haha, true. I also barely manage to get enough people for my Rhino Shield bulk this time. Must find new poison for them, existing accessories are no longer interested for them. |
