It's actually the first place that I'll be going on that day and I plan to go there early. Maybe 8am or 9am depends when is it open. Want to sit at the top floor to get the best view of Shibuya Crossing. That will probably be one of the main highlights of my trip.
Oh ya the market! It used to be part of my Central Tokyo trip together with Tsukishima but I had to take it out from the list because that day is too packed. Unless I can squeeze it in.
*
Reach there by 4am to secure a place to see the auction. Do it before it moved to other place and can't enjoy the classic tsukiji fish market.

About eat I thought very expensive before I when to Tokyo and Osaka. I prepare 1000 yen for each meal but actually used 500 - 700 yen for each meal. But some meal can go for expensive too  smile.gif
*
500-800yen is average and love every meal i've had during my time in Japan last year. foods in many major train stations also not bad and reasonable priced. the most expensive food i have spent is the sushi in tsukiji fish market. it was so good that i went there twice in 1 trip.

EDIT: actually the yakiniku i have tried in Osaka also not cheap but again, it was so good

we want to visit Tokyo Disney because it's considered the best Disney in the world.  It will be a waste not to visit there at least once in a lifetime.  also, Universal Studio Singapore also got, although quite different, but it's nothing special.  Disney is special to most of us who grows up in the 80s
i know got a lot of affordable food, but it's best to just prepare more budget, since i'm a super foodie
*
You won't go wrong with the Japanese food.

I am now missing grilled oyster and eel rice from miyajima, okonomiyaki from osaka, yakuniku from osaka and shinjuku, sushi from tsukiji fish market, dinner & breakfast provided by ryokan in hakone, grill steak rice in shinjuku, yakuniku from osaka and shinjuku, green tea parfait from kyoto, etc

Never regret on every money I've spent for foods over there. Just that I don't have enough stomach space to fit more like pablo cheese cake from osaka

i would leave disneyland for the HK trip if you haven't been to or if the budget and time is not your concern then go for both theme parks in japan

only if u r very very interested in the auction itself and has the strength to get up so early for it.  for me, i'm just interested in the food and the actual eating
*
although the waking up part is kinda kills the plan but also depends how you plan the itinerary. i always make sure to get the day before and after to be a bit relaxing to recover back the sleep time

it is very up to individual. this is my first time to see the auction in tsukiji fish market and probably the last one

like i said, it is up to individual, not forcing or whatsoever. i've been there once and it was not cramped like what you have said. they divide it into 2 groups and im in the first group and i still can go for the sushi early morning.

well, i was there to experience their culture and at least i have ticked the fish market out from my list.

btw, will the auction thing going to be the same once they have moved to the new fish market?

i wonder what those who wait for 3-4 hours for sushi do while waiting
*
been there and worth my morning. start queuing at 7am and our turn at 10:30-11am. it was tired but 1 of us(2 person) can take turn to walk around and buy some other snacks. we even went to the next one(daiwa) on last few days of our trip and the queue is only 1 hour but not that tasty as sushi dai

Was the auction worth the wait (and waking up early for)?

I'm planning to go to either the auction or queue for the sushi. Don't want to spend too much time queuing and I'm also on my own so I have to stick to my place.
I'm guessing queing for sushi would be better?
*
can't really answer you that but since the fish market will be moved away from tsukiji, might as well go for it.

we want to try the sushi and thats why we go for the auction as well. there are 2 sessions so you can go for the first session(4:30am i guess) and then sushi. make sure you go on the weekday though. just plan your itinerary carefully such as no tirin activity on the day before the auction and relaxing day on that auction day

Yep, it was a saturday.

Went for tuna auction for the 5.50am to 6.15 slot, right after go to sushi dai say about 6.30am, we got into the shop at about 12pm sharp.

Crazy. I dont know if its because its tourist season but when i was in the front row just about to get in, people inside are spending too much time taking pictures..

We spend the rest of the day at shinjuku kyoen.

there you go, never plan any very crowded place on the weekend
