I've booked my holiday to Tokyo from 5 Nov - 12 Nov. I'll be on my own and planning to stay in those houses that are being rented out to tourists. Did a bit of comparing and it seems a lot cheaper and better (you have your own room, get to experience what its like to stay with Japanese and hang out with them, they can also give you advice on how to get to your destination, if you're lucky they'll even cook for you or take you out with them to visit other places) compared to those back packers hotel. Found a lot of places that are below RM150 a night with some good reviews so yeah.. I'm still checking around.

QUOTE(terryykf @ Mar 4 2014, 11:50 AM) Yeah, you checked via Airbnb right? I'm also looking at the website for accommodation. Yup..quite a lot to choose from and I'm still browsing around. I'm on a tight budget so I'm planning to use below RM2000 (excluding accommodation) for the 7 days I'm in Tokyo. The entrance fee for all the places I want to visit is already around RM250. I'm guessing transportation by train will be around RM200 for 7 days. So I have around RM1500 left for food and gifts (planning to buy Kit Kat which won't be cheap).

To those who have used AirAsia where the arrival time at Henda airport is 11pm, how early or late do they actually arrive? Want to know so I can see if I have enough time to take the train to Grand Park Hotel Panex Tokyo near Kamata station. I probably also have to collect my Tokyo Metro tourist ticket and Mifi at the airport if I do rent one. It's my first time there so I'll probably get lost a little.

I'm planning to rent the below Mifi when I'm in Tokyo. http://www.globaladvancedcomm.com/pocketwifi.htmlAnyone used it before? I'm thinking of renting the unlimited data Pocket WiFi (MiFi) 21Mbps Model for 7 days. According to the table, its 4,950 yen for seven days. Plus 1,220 yen for me to collect it at Haneda airport. Is that correct? That's around RM200 which I suppose is pretty standard. It's much expensive if I roam with Digi. It says that I can collect it at Heneda airport anytime so that means I can collect it even if I reach at midnight? Just to confirm.

QUOTE(phelix @ Mar 10 2014, 09:36 PM) you better check their availability fast... if you need it soon... i book a bit too late just 4-5 days before and its running out of stock.. now getting pururu... which is slightly higher price. anyway they can ship the Mifi to your hotel since you are not getting sim card. I'll be going in November so there's still time. Almost forgot about the sim card. I think I'll need that too since I don't think my digi sim card is compatible. Another extra charges for the sim card I guess?

QUOTE(frozzbyte @ Mar 12 2014, 01:33 AM) SIWISIMHO ... there's nothing much you can see or do at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building observation deck but it's free. I much prefer Tokyo Skytree, but that is just my opinion. BTW the banana cake is highly overated if you ask me. How much did you pay for Tokyo Skytree and was it crowded? Someone I know went there at 11am and said that it was so crowded they had to queue up for a while and got a temporary ticket to enter at 3pm and even that won't guarantee a real ticket to go up there. But that was during a weekend.

QUOTE(phelix @ Mar 13 2014, 09:24 PM) I took pururu... Using it now but the problem is once u exceeded the quota it drops to 0.2mbps... Yes it is unlimited but with such speed is crazy.... Eh..I actually thought unlimited means you won't get capped. How much does those Hiyoko Sweets cost? Looks like a good gift to bring back home. I Googled around and it says $41.00? Thats like freaking expensive...

I'm trying to use hyperdia to find out how to get to Nishi-Shinjuku from Haneda airport. Nishi-Shinjuku does not seem to be listed, but Shinjuku-Nishiguchi is. Am I searching it wrongly? Looking at the map, both stations are close to each other but its still confusing for first timers.

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Mar 22 2014, 05:35 PM) It is listed: NISHI-SHINJUKU Oops my mistake. I was typing it as Shinjuku-Nishi. Thanks. I've rented a small apartment near NISHI-SHINJUKU for my stay in November. I read that its a very convenient place with a lot of shops around. It's also a 15 minute walk to Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building Observatories which I plan to visit. Anyone knows if there's anything else I should know about the area near by? Since its in Shinjuku, I suppose it will be quite happening at night?

QUOTE(menmissed @ Mar 23 2014, 12:19 AM) perhaps Omoide Yokocho? near ur place. Thanks. It does look like the type of place I'm interested in. QUOTE(Human Nature) just be safe kay So I found out that Kabukicho and Roppongi are said to be one of the more dangerous places in Tokyo. Are there any tips that I should know about so I don't get into trouble? Like don't stare or take pics or anything like that? Especially at night? I was told that my place in Nishishinjuku is a 5 minute train ride to Shinjuku Gyoen. Does that mean its close enough for me to just walk there? I don't mind if its less than 30 minutes.
I'm starting to do my research for my Nov trip and wow.. there's also a Robot Restaurant in Kabukicho. Gotta check it out.

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Mar 23 2014, 09:37 PM) why are you heading to Shinjuku Gyoen? It is not a popular place for autumn foliage right? Oh really? I read that if I go there in early November I'll still be in time to catch the colorful trees and stuff. Will check again though.

This one says there will be a new pass for tourists in Tokyo from 22 April onwards... New subway ticket for tourists offers a reasonable deal http://blogs.timeout.jp/en/2014/03/28/new-...easonable-deal/But the thing is.. what's the difference between that pass and this one? http://www.tokyometro.jp/en/ticket/value/travel/index.htmlThe one in tokyometro.jp seems to be cheaper and is also for all metro lines. So I don't get why the new pass is more expensive.

QUOTE(jepertine90 @ Apr 7 2014, 12:16 PM) For tokyo pass, I'm getting a tokyo subway ticket(new and only available from 22 April onwards) 3 days for 1500 yen for toei and metro. Should I get a suica card also? I'm planning to get the new toei and metro pass too. But I'm also planning to get a suica card in case I want to use the JR Line for some reason. Is that a good idea, guys?

QUOTE(hihihehe @ Apr 9 2014, 08:12 PM) no choice. the auction session started at 5:30am(second session) for daiwa, we went at about 11am and got the place at 12pm Was the auction worth the wait (and waking up early for)? I'm planning to go to either the auction or queue for the sushi. Don't want to spend too much time queuing and I'm also on my own so I have to stick to my place. I'm guessing queing for sushi would be better?

Hey guys, my last day in Tokyo will be in Akihabara and Ginza on a Wednesday (in November) and my flight to KL from Haneda airport is around midnight. I'm planning to walk from Ginza to Tokyo Station and take the bus to the airport around 6pm or 7pm. That will probably the only time I get to experience taking a bus in Tokyo. Is that a good idea and anyone taken this bus before? I was actually planning to take the train to the airport but since its rush hour around that time, I avoid it. Don't want to be crushed to death on my last day.
