Yah if can share with a few friends then not so expensive. Free WiFi is very unreliable. The place which offers free non hassle wifi would be in Malaysia.
*
it is true, i dont see (any) free wifi offer by restaurant/shop... except in hotel

but if u r in major city... 7-11 hv free wifi (called 7spot) and fast too (ohh lawson need $$$)
some tourist attraction also have (shinsaibashi, osaka), but it is abit hard to hunt sweat.gif

thanks for all the feedback and reminding the travel time between Hakodate and Sapporo
now revising the plan a little
instead of tokyo->Sapporo will do a tokyo -> hakodate (spend a night or two) -> hakodate
In Hokkaido, now leaning towards renting a car for 2 days to cover Furano/Biei and the surrounding areas to save time considering Sapporo to Furano takes at least 3 hours even by limited express
The remaining JR pass will likely be used for Otaru

To drive in Japan, need to go JPJ to translate the license right?
*
Ya just bring ur license and RM150 (forget sweat.gif )

1. beware if u never drive in the snow, take the train
2. hokkaido have highest accident rate in whole japan, why? foreigner lo and mayb icy road
3. the car is right hand drive, same as our car
4. buy insurances!
5. japanese drive very politely, never above 70km/h + 100m gaps between u and them + they know u r foreigner with rental car (they let u go first) + never over take car (can oni do it at certain road with 2km straight line)
6. there is no traffic light to cross road (for car), u just have to take chances to cross it
7. google maps gps work better than japanese gps (car rental gps)
8. if driving to furano during nite time (from or to chitose airport), some area cover with fog (in my case fog+rain) + narrow 1lane road... u hv to drive extremely slow... no fun using this route... (using it during day time)
9. it is advisable to rent car in hokkaido, some tourist attraction can only be access using car... if use train, some place u need to use bus (u will hv fun happily waiting about 30mins to 1hour + limited schedule)

You left out the most important thing which is totally different from Malaysia. If there is a zebra crossing, people is King. Make sure everyone have cross the road first before you proceed. Hence always stop to make sure unless there is traffic lights.
*
i donno about u
i alwayz practice stop at zebra line whistling.gif and i alwayz stop before i make any turn
isn't it a common sense here too??

my travel will be during summer, so less concern bout snow

*

only in (most) 3rd world countries we can see this kind of behavior, sometimes it's not us that don't wanna be polite, it's just that the situation made us drive like mad ppl (you should see how ppl drive and ride in Jakarta, everybody thinks their indestructible, pedestrians crossing the road don't even look for traffic).  every developed country i've been in they really respect pedestrians, every time cross road with or without zebra crossing, all the vehicles will stop for you.  it's the driver's education and mentality that is really important.  when i came back from Taiwan last time I started driving like them (unconsciously), after some furious horns from the cars behind I adopted back Malaysia driving style

Noboribetsu is the place we missed out due to time constraint sad.gif
eventually we overnight at Toya Lake area.
*
i oso spent 1 nite at toya lake
was delighted with the day&nite view at the lake...
but the firework is nothing to fancy and the town is too small

recommended if u wan to relax, do nothing and enjoy the view (onsen was good)
else skip to noboribetsu

Yea, will do another week or so to cover Hokkaido only in the future laugh.gif
Maybe should rent a car for that trip since I was told not easy to get to places with public transport alone in Hokkaido.
Yup during one of their promo last year if I'm not mistaken.
*
yup MUST rent car if u wan to cover the northern+central mount area
unless u wan to use d bus which hv limited schedule sweat.gif

QUOTE(phantom @ May 18 2014, 02:48 PM)
hi all experts here,

I never travel to any country b4, now my company (japan based company) gonna send me to japan odaiba in tokyo for a 3months training.

there is few thing im worry, need some help~:
-visa
now malaysia is visa free to japan, the max duration will be 90days? i will be there for 2 and half month (around 75days), so am i good?

-money (can just use CC anywhere?) company told me to use citibank account here, they say cash atm card can be used in japan also with some charging rate.

-phone calls
im using note2(no LTE/4G), with maxis postpaid line. will IDD calls works there? do i need to buy a sim card there will be cheaper?

-internet
company told me they will rent a share house for me(hotels is too expensive fro 3months ;/) im not sure it got internet or not, so i need back up plans for this.
can i able to buy/rent any 3g/wifi service in japan with a travel visa?
or data roaming with maxis? (its expensive i think)

-shoping
i plan to buy some banned action figures from japan (mostly sexy anime girls)
can bring back here if i toss the original box?

-place must go? suggestion?
is there any "must go" place around tokyo, since i dont travel dont know where to go lol.
thanks!
*
-visa, visa free... but since u r going there for work... u might need to go to japan embassy to get the working permit. u need a letter from ur company and the company in japan
-money, creditcard visa is acceptable... i using citibank to pay for the car rental and hotel... confirm no problem.
since u r going for very long time... u might wan to learn to use banker cheque and TT transfer for backup.
-phone, ya IDD works... just incase, u might wan to increase ur deposit and creditlimit for ur maxis line
2months... u better take japan sims
-internet, use mobile data la (from able phone)
-shopping, miniature? drool.gif tumpang buy some perfect grade stuff tongue.gif
