Hey guys! I'll be going to Japan this coming April for a 6-day trip, will be crashing at Tokyo Backpackers in Minami-senju. There are several things I'd like clarified:

1. I'm planning on visiting Evangelion World at Fuji-Q; do I have to pay the 5000 yen entry fee into Fuji-Q, or Eva World is a separate entity from the theme park?

2. I heard Kanda's the place to go if one is a book lover, being that there are lots of second-hand bookstores there. Is this true?

3. Is it feasible, both finance-wise and time-wise, within a 6-day trip, to go to Yamagata (somewhere around the Yama-dera temple) and back? I'd like to visit my host family from my previous Japan exchange programme if possible.

4. It'd be spring during April. I'm prone to hayfever; how bad is the air during the season? I'd hate to walk around with a runny nose and a pocket full of wet tissues... It's best if I can prepare some medication beforehand.

I'll think of some more questions while I'm at it. Answers are appreciated!

Thanks. It does look like the type of place I'm interested in.

So I found out that Kabukicho and Roppongi are said to be one of the more dangerous places in Tokyo. Are there any tips that I should know about so I don't get into trouble? Like don't stare or take pics or anything like that? Especially at night?

simple question:

I have 3 days in Kansai area:

2 days in Osaka, 1 day in Nara

so which pass should i get when i reach KIX airport?:

Icoca & Haruka (package) - 4000yen (http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2359_icoca_haruka.html)

OR

KANSAI THRU PASS - 5000yen (http://www.surutto.com/tickets/kansai_thru_english.html)

FYI I already have 7 day JR pass but that will be used during my 7 days trip from between Kyoto - Osaka, and Osaka = Tokyo

thanks notworthy.gif

Thanks for reminding. That is the problem. When I look at this map http://www.tokyometro.jp/en/subwaymap/pdf/routemap_en.pdf, I can't find any other stations beside Nishi-Funabashi that links to Mutsumi or Chiba. Not even Funabashi. Therefore I thought Nishi-Funabashi was the 1st station to get the 1 day pass.

OK, I got you. The day I go to Shinjuku for Hakone trip, I will not buy the 710 one day pass. So I will use Mutsumi-Funabashi-Shinjuku.
But for the other 2 days that I will be using the 1 day pass 710 to travel to Tokyo Central, I need to go to Nishi-Funabashi to buy the pass. Am I right?
*
Because your Map are Tokyo Metro.
From Mutsumi to Funabashi are Tobu Noda Line are Private Line. you cannot find Private Line at JR map or Tokyo metro Map
Plus Chiba are not in Tokyo anymore.

Chiba is like Kajang away from KL City already

That why my 10 Years in Japan Exp in my brain are more complete than any of those map. brows.gif brows.gif

I dont see you need Kansai Thru Pass..
you have 7 day JR Pass, which will be start from 7th until 13th.
from your iti 6th and 13th at osaka, you just need to take subway few times only. on 14th Nara day, if you're not rushing, just take kintetsu line express from kintetsu nippombashi to kintetsu nara only 540yen each way. Those ltd exp just 10mins faster. IMO, just get ICOCA and haruka will do bro, so that you can take Haruka train to and fro aiport. Haruka round trip tix valid for 2 weeks.
The ICOCA and Haruka price will b slightly increase effective 1 Apr, to 4060 yen.

bro, u go kyoto from osaka via Shinkansen? you sure? (or you just wan to try out shinkansen becos during your visit you wont take it)
use kansai thru pass just to go nara? Your day 2 is packed. Ginkakuji is near to northern kyoto, higashiyama is east kyoto. These 2 places could probably taken up your whole day time. Nara is further away, which deserved a day tour.
For me, I take bus in kyoto (with combination of subway, if far).

Question on the Haruka train:

(1) When we purchase the Haruka + Icoca combo, do we need to tell the counter where is our destination station (single trip) and departing + destination station (round-trip)? I ask this question because I see from a sample ticket that the station info are printed on the ticket.

(2) From Japan Travel Guide, it says that "The ticket can also be used on JR airport rapid trains instead of the Haruka limited express trains between Kansai Airport and central Osaka." It refers to JR Kansai Airport Rapid Service right?

(3) The Haruka ticket can only be used for unreserved seat. What happen if the unreserved seats are full, can we stand on the coach?

bro, shinkansen is expensive and osaka to kyoto just a very short distance, it won't be speeding fast.

Yeah, if you refer to the guideline, the starting and destination stations is printed on the card...so need to have some clarification as it will be rigid then..

i think better reserve from the website.
