Hi all, I want to what are the career paths that an IT graduate can go for.

Here's what I have in mind:

- Programmer / Developer
- Support / Helpdesk
- Sales
- Database Engineer
- Network Engineer
- Tester
- System Analyst

Feel free to suggest any other choices available and if what I stated above is not right, please let me know.

Thanks.

Normally ppl will start with programmer if they like programing else will choose to work as helpdesk.

For System analyst (I mean "real" system analyst), normally require you have few years of programmer/ developer experiences.

Hi, then may I know what is the next path an IT helpdesk can do?

Thanks smile.gif

Normally ppl do not like to workin as IT helpdesk for thier whole life.... some of them will try to switch to networking, server admin and other hardware related job. But it is depends on your luck and what kind of IT helpdesk you are.

But I do see some of them still working as helpdesk after 5-6 years in call center biggrin.gif

Some helpdesk are highly paid, and easy job.

Programmer job, some work like hell until night ....paid not good.

who said helpdesk easy job..... when they get scold mad.gif from user/customer that time you know it ? Almost everyday you know ?

you see they're highy paid bcoz of they can claim OT.

For programmer, if you choose a better company, you will treated better as you can't imagine.

Yup, I agree with rexis. As an IT graduate, I would say this .. things we have learned in college doesn't mean itz the same outside. It just provides us the foundation of knowledge. Be prepared to learn hard and work hard in order to gain more competent skills.

Choosing the right track is not easy. I have seen friends and college mates who took up IT courses just because it was the easiest course to attain a degree. But when they came out to work, they were not adequately prepared to deal with the demands of the job e.g. long hours, sit whole day, etc..

My advice ... look for what you want to do in the future .. say 10 years from now ... whether itz a technical or managerial position ... if you think you can proceed up to managerial, then learn more about business-related IT management ... else if you intend to focus on technical, then go for either hardware or software specialization.

Here's what my career path is like (7 years exp.) :

Grad --> Software Developer --> E-commerce consultant --> Team Lead --> Senior App Developer (otherwise known as One Leg Kick)  rclxm9.gif

I wonder why you move backward to become a App Dev after you're consultant.
My guess is Senior App Dev in some MNC having highly pay ??? rolleyes.gif

My guess is Senior App Dev in some MNC having highly pay ... RM6K - RM8K, normally.  More than that should be system analyst.

hahah mean my guess is correct. biggrin.gif
But some of the senior SA only have Rm8k and senior App Dev even lower like 4-6k.

Can i have opinion from u all about how u all view for the IT field. What i mean is will it become commend until everyperson also will know to program themselve and without any advice from the IT expert.

It won't be like that, for example like there is book or course for hair cut.. but you will never go n get those course n learn to cut ur hair all by urself... as u know u r not expert in it ...

http://www.utar.edu.my/v2/portal/pdf/courses/CN.pdf How about this? Care to give your opinion? Hope all the sifu can give some advice and opinion about the syllabus

becareful, sometime those 3 years course we wont get even a single diploma cert if you didnt complete 3 years..

read the link, 1st year is very basic for computing student.
2nd & 3rd year go in deeper on networking.
Actually this course is quite good, really majorin in networking.... not like others mix all those stuff together. By the way, in IT industry it didnt assess your cert or wat your're majoring during ur Uni time.... they just want the skill..... smile.gif
