Ortega: Had very little to do but never dropped his concentration to avoid City ending up in any more dangerous situations - exactly why he started. 7

Lewis: Took responsibility in the second half to step up and create Haaland's goal after some uncharacteristically sloppy play. 8

Stones: Cruised through the game on just his third start of the season and enjoyed helping the attack later on. 7

Akanji: A few careless passes that almost put City in trouble but otherwise had a quiet night as part of the back three. 7

Gvardiol: Strong in the air to help his team out defensively, and moved forward with ease. 7

Gundogan: Got the first goal but took a while to get up to speed with the game, to the frustration of his manager. 6

Nunes: Still flatters to deceive, showing some nice touches at times but also getting caught out when he shouldn't be by now. 6

Foden: Still not close to his best but never hid, scored the second and produced a great assist for McAtee. 8

Doku: Beat his full-back with ease regularly, but failed to turn that into goalscoring chances for himself or his teammates apart from one effort off the bar. 6

Savinho: Didn't see much of the ball with most of the play going down the right. Moved up front in the later stages. 6

Haaland: Had very little to go off in the first half but was clever in the second to spot the space and grab his goal. 7

Substitutes
McAtee (for Haaland, 60) A lovely first goal for City. 7

Dias (for Akanji, 60) Solid at the back to allow others to push up. 7

Grealish (for Foden, 78) Got involved.

Walker (for Gvardiol, 78) Little to do.

GK: Stefan Ortega - 6/10 - Largely a bystander in an unsurprisingly comfortable performance.

RB: Rico Lewis - 7/10 - Had so many opportunities to get involved further forwards and gleefully took every chance. Some smart passes in midfield.

CB: Manuel Akanji - 6/10 - A handful of nervy moments early on. Didn't exactly get much wrong but lacked the composure needed at times.

CB: John Stones - 7/10 - An excellent creator from deep, Stones was heavily involved in most of City's build-up.

LB: Josko Gvardiol - 7/10 - Got involved in attack time and time again. Flashed signs of a real understanding with Savinho.

DM: Ilkay Gundogan - 8/10 - Netted the opening goal and could have bagged another from range in a calm, clinical performance.

DM: Matheus Nunes - 5/10 - On a night in which City looked a class or two above their opponents, Nunes undoubtedly failed to stand out. His play was often slow and uninspired.

RM: Jeremy Doku - 8/10 - A massive threat all night long. Grabbed a deserved assist and should have had at least a goal or two of his own.

AM: Phil Foden - 8/10 - Showed real class with his goal. Buzzed around with real excitement throughout and looked to be enjoying himself.

LM: Savinho - 7/10 - Some nice moments which caused chaos for the Slovan Bratislava defence, but undoubtedly played a reserved role compared to Doku and Foden.

ST: Erling Haaland - 7/10 - Slovan Bratislava defended so deep that Haaland was simply never going to get the space needed to get involved here. Was on the fringes for the majority of the game before one moment of quality saw him get his goal.

Substitutes

SUB: James McAtee (61' for Haaland) - 7/10

SUB: Ruben Dias (61' for Akanji) - 6/10

SUB: Jack Grealish (78' for Foden) - 6/10

SUB: Kyle Walker (78' for Gvardiol) - 6/10

Manager

Pep Guardiola - 7/10 - Went surprisingly strong for this lineup, considering his public pleas for more opportunities to rest his stars, but there can be no complaints with the outcome.

Stefan Ortega (5/10):

Bratislava's two shots missed the target and he had little to do over the 90 minutes.

Rico Lewis (8/10):

Did a good job sending Doku free down the right side. Fought to win the ball, was useful on it, and caused problems with his movement up the field. Set up Haaland with a fine pass, too.

Manuel Akanji (6/10):

Helped keep Bratislava's attack quiet and was decent with the ball.

John Stones (7/10):

His passing was excellent and he was barely troubled defensively.

Josko Gvardiol (7/10):

Put in a lot of tackles and made some important interventions to keep the home team out

Matheus Nunes (6/10):

Made some promising runs forward when he could and his passing was good.

Ilkay Gundogan (7/10):

Was lucky to see his shot hit a defender and go in, but he put in a strong display and hit the woodwork.

Phil Foden (8/10):

All balls into the middle seemed to find him instead of Haaland as he always managed to get into space. Deserved his goal and got an assist.

Jeremy Doku (8/10):

He had a great time! A constant threat with so much down the flank to put his pace to good use. Key for the first two goals, hit the woodwork himself and created chance after chance.

Savinho (6/10):

Gave the hosts a lot of trouble down City's left but created nothing substantial.

Erling Haaland (6/10):

Went through long spells without being involved, but pounced on some woeful defending to get his goal.

Subs & Manager

James McAtee (7/10):

Looked lively after replacing Haaland for the last 30 minutes and managed to get a goal.

Ruben Dias (5/10):

Didn't have much to do with City cruising by the time he came on.

Jack Grealish (5/10):

Was unable to get much time on the ball in his 10 minutes or so on the field.

Kyle Walker (6/10):

Got involved down the right side and had a long-range shot saved.

Pep Guardiola (7/10):

May feel his team should have scored many more considering their dominance and 25 shots - 13 on target - over the 90 minutes, but he can have few complaints otherwise as City strolled to the win.

Stefan Ortega- 6/10: Besides an early scare he barely had anything to do. Was good in possession when required.

Rico Lewis-9/10: Yet another fantastic performance from Lewis. Dominated in midfield and his assist for Haaland’s goal was sublime.

John Stones-7.5/10: Stones’ best performance of the season to date. Very good in possession and untroubled at the back.

Manuel Akanji-7/10: Taken off when the game was over but was good once again at the back.

Josko Gvardiol- 6.5/10: Was good in possession and untroubled at the back. However, it was again noticeable that teams are getting after the gap left by Gvardiol when City lose possession.

Ilkay Gundogan- 7.5/10: Scored his first goal since returning to the club and put in a quality performance.

Matheus Nunes- 6.5/10: I was hoping to see more from Nunes throughout the game. Showed some nice touches at times but was on the periphery of the game for the most part.

Savinho-6.5/10: He did some nice things at times but he wasn’t as dynamic as previous showings this season.

Phil Foden-9/10: A superb performance from Foden. He scored one and set up McAtee’s goal with a sublime ball. Looks back to his best based on his performance tonight.

Jeremy Doku-8/10: Grabbed an early assist and was always dangerous on the right wing. If his end product improves, he will be a world-beater.

Erling Haaland-7/10: Grabbed his goal in the second half with a composed piece of play. Could’ve scored two or three in a busy performance.

Substitutes

Ruben Dias- 6/10: Tidy in possession when he came on. Didn’t have any defensive work to do of note.

James McAtee-7.5/10: Had some nice touches off the bench and scored his first goal for the club in a special moment.

Jack Grealish-N/A: Not on long enough to mark.

Kyle Walker-N/A: Not on long enough to mark.

Player Ratings

Ederson – 8

The Manchester City keeper made a couple of huge saves, most notably in one-vs-one situations with Adama Traore.

Rico Lewis – 7

Rico Lewis was at usual best with the ball at his feet against the Londoners, but struggled to deal with the pacy Fulham counter-attack at times.

Manuel Akanji – 7

Manuel Akanji has cemented himself as one of Pep Guardiola’s most reliable defensive options, and hardly put a foot wrong once again.

Ruben Dias – 6.5

Ruben Dias remains a steady presence, but being on the pitch for two goals from close-range in the Manchester City box will knock him down a peg.

Josko Gvardiol – 6.5

A relatively quiet day from the Croatian, but Manchester City continue to struggle defensively.

Mateo Kovacic – 8.5 (MOTM)

Mateo Kovacic is showing with each passing week that papering over the Rodri-less cracks may not be the impossible task we once thought it to be.

Ilkay Gundogan – 7

The former Manchester City captain is still looking to find his feet back in the team, but he remained silky on the ball and a threat from the edge of the box.

Phil Foden – 7

It’s great to see Phil Foden back in the starting line-up, and he was buzzing around the edge of the penalty box as usual. The goals will come with rhythm.

Bernardo Silva – 8

Bernardo Silva has received plenty of criticism when playing out on the wing, but his assist and an overall controlled performance was exactly what Manchester City needed at times.

Jack Grealish – 6.5

Jack Grealish went missing throughout stretches of the game, but was involved in the build-up for the second Mateo Kovacic goal.

Erling Haaland – 6.5

A victim of his own success in our ratings. Erling Haaland was involved, occupying defenders to allow space for his teammates but ultimately struggled to take his few chances.

Substitutes

Kyle Walker – 6.5

The Manchester City skipper was seemingly brought on to deal with the counter-attacks, but was burned by Adama Traore and played a role in Fulham’s late fight-back.

Jeremy Doku – 7.5

Jeremy Doku’s moment of magic ultimately secured the three points for Manchester City, but the game did open up in a threatening way when the Belgian came on the pitch.

John Stones – N/A

Matheus Nunes – N/A

Ederson: Made an excellent save to stop City going behind and then did well to prevent them conceding another. 8

Lewis: Pushed forward as he can but Traore should have scored twice after escaping Lewis's attention at the back. 6

Akanji: Kept his composure during a sticky spell for the home team but was caught out for the first goal. 6

Dias: Always vocal and came up with some important contributions at the back, although there were a few struggles. 6

Gvardiol: Made a number of excellent blocks and interceptions to keep City's position in the game. 8

Kovacic: Still hasn't found his sweet spot in front of the defence, but more than made up for that with two moments of quality at the other end. 7

Gundogan: Some bright exchanges early on with Haaland and a header glanced wide, only for his influence to fade. 6

Foden: Did well for the second goal and is coming into form, but still plenty of moments he wasn't decisive where the Foden of last season would have been. 6

Silva: Not everyone's favourite choice on the right wing but he was too good for Robinson for most of the afternoon and did well to set up the second. 7

Grealish: Not involved enough in the first half, although when he did get in the game he set up Silva and then played through for Foden for the second goal. 6

Haaland: Started brightly linking up with Foden but never managed to be on the end of any meaningful chances. 6

Substitutes:

Walker (for Akanji, 62) Ederson spares his blushes after Traore raced past him to be in on goal. 5

Doku (for Grealish, 62) Did not give City the control they wanted, losing possession in his own half. Then he scored and all was forgiven. 7

Stones (for Foden, 78) Lost his man for Fulham's second. 5

Nunes (for Gundogan, 89) No time

GK: Ederson - 7/10 - Was needed to make some smart saves from decent Fulham counter-attacks.

RB: Rico Lewis - 6/10 - Showed awesome technique throughout the game but was also guilty of losing possession too easily on a few too many occasions. Got an assist for Doku's strike.

CB: Manuel Akanji - 6/10 - Caught out by Jimenez's cute flick which allowed Pereira to strike. Otherwise performed well enough before his withdrawal.

CB: Ruben Dias - 6/10 - Misplaced few of his passes and coped decently in the face of Fulham's pacy attackers.

LB: Josko Gvardiol - 7/10 - Distributed the ball well and rarely came out of a one-on-one duel on the losing side.

DM: Mateo Kovacic - 9/10 - The Croatian's first was deflected and a little fortuitous, but his second was smartly taken and well deserved. Doesn't offer the protection and safety Rodri does but few others in world football do.

RW: Bernardo Silva - 7/10 - Always used the ball smartly and might have had a goal on another day. Grabbed the assist for Kovacic's second.

AM: Phil Foden - 6/10 - Buzzed around brightly and his cross eventually led to Kovacic putting City ahead.

AM: Ilkay Gundogan - 5/10 - Missed a few good opportunities that he created with his late runs into the box.

LW: Jack Grealish - 5/10 - Was always looking to probe and dribble, though his final end product was usually lacking.

ST: Erling Haaland - 5/10 - A more subdued afternoon for the big Norwegian than he might have expected. Couldn't hit the back of the net and looked a little isolated at points.

Substitutes

SUB: Kyle Walker (62' for Akanji) - 5/10

SUB: Jeremy Doku (62' for Grealish) - 7/10 - Showed great feet to dart inside and fire in what turned out to be the winner.

SUB: John Stones (78' for Foden) - N/A

SUB: Matheus Nunes (89' for Gundogan) - N/A

Ederson (7/10):

Alert when called upon, denying Traore on two separate occasions as the Spaniard raced clear one-on-one.

Rico Lewis (6/10):

Didn't receive much support in what was a difficult matchup against the athletic duo of Antonee Robinson and Traore, but coped well.

Manuel Akanji (6/10):

Made a great challenge to stop Traore on a break but was slow to react to Jimenez's back-heel for Fulham's opener.

Ruben Dias (6/10):

A typically solid performance from City's leader, although he won't be happy about conceding twice at home.

Josko Gvardiol (7/10):

Provided a potentially goal-saving block to thwart Jimenez in the 76th minute.

Mateo Kovacic (8/10):

Turned the game around with his two goals. Kevin De Bruyne's absence will be felt a lot less if Kovacic remains this influential going forwards.

Ilkay Gundogan (6/10):

Doesn't possess the same physicality that helps make Rodri such a force in City's midfield, and this may cause issues against more clinical opponents.

Bernardo Silva (7/10):

City looked more threatening down the right than the left thanks to Silva's constant probing. Provided the assist for Kovacic's second.

Phil Foden (6/10):

Handed his first start in the league this season and couldn't repeat his heroics from midweek, but not for a lack of trying. Should continue to improve as he gets more minutes.

Jack Grealish (5/10):

Failed to provide much of a threat down City's left and was replaced by Doku after an hour.

Erling Haaland (6/10):

A frustrating afternoon for the Norwegian, who was left to feed on scraps. That's now back-to-back league games in which he hasn't scored which, for Haaland, is incomprehensible.

Subs & Manager
Kyle Walker (5/10):

Traore's pace is well known but the sight of the full-back being easily beaten to the ball in a straight sprint was a concern.

Jeremy Doku (7/10):

Scored a brilliant goal to seal all three points. The Belgian scared Fulham's defenders significantly more than Grealish did.

John Stones (6/10):

Handed 10 minutes as City tried to see out the game. Couldn't do anything about Muniz's late goal.

Matheus Nunes (N/A):

Not enough time to make an impact.

Pep Guardiola (6/10):

The City boss will have some concerns about the quality of chances Fulham created throughout the game. Rodri's absence was sorely felt in this one, but the international break affords Guardiola some time to think things through.

Ederson-10/10: The man-of-the-match for me. He made two crucial saves and was brilliant in possession.

Rico Lewis-6/10: Not his best performance. Adama Traore exposed him defensively, but he was good in possession, especially in the second half.

Manuel Akanji-6.5/10: He made some crucial interventions at times but was caught out by the Jimenez flick for Fulham’s opener.

Ruben Dias-6.5/10: Like so many of his teammates not at his best. But when needed he made a crucial intervention or challenge.

Josko Gvardiol-9/10: His best display of the season. Was good in possession and vital at the back. His late block was crucial to City picking up three points.

Mateo Kovacic-9.5/10: Scored a vital brace which was the deciding factor in the game. I give Ederson the man-of-the-match honours as some of the times Kovacic lost possession led to Fulham counters. But he was brilliant despite that.

Ilkay Gundogan- 6.5/10: Once again had moments in good positions but didn’t take advantage of them. He was better in the second half than the first before he was substituted late on.

Bernardo Silva-6/10: His battle with Antonee Robinson was a feature of the game. But Bernardo wasn’t at his best throughout the 90 minutes.

Phil Foden-6/10: Had some moments, especially early, but was below his usual high standards for the majority of the game.

Jack Grealish-6/10: Not his best day. Threatened on a couple of occasions but didn’t affect the game as he would’ve liked.

Erling Haaland-6.5/10: He had his chances early, but he never stopped trying for his team. Haaland will have bigger impact on games with his goals, but I thought his contribution to the City’s win was vital.

Substitutes
Kyle Walker-6/10: He was brought on to quell Fulham’s threat on the break. Besides one opportunity that Adama Traore exposed him for pace he did what was required.

Jeremy Doku-8/10: His goal was sublime. As soon as he was introduced he induced panic in the Fulham defence.

John Stones-6/10: Made several crucial blocks but not on long enough to mark.

Matheus Nunes-N/A: Not on long enough to mark.
