Jinyee,
since you are so knowledgeable about the skin care products as well as the science behind the dermatological facts, do you have any recommended book or websites where one could have a basic understanding on skin types, the sciences of various ingredients used in skincare, haircare, and healthcare products? =)

would definitely look forward to learn from you.

PS: i am trying your regimen, and really hope i could get the Cetaphile, NOTS at Guardian at Guardian , Fajar today=)

Hi Jinyee,

Your recommended regime Cetaphil + Oxy5 + Neutrogena moisturizer for combination skin, in which Cetaphil cleanser and Neutrogena moisturizer contains few parabens (methly and propyl parabens) and SLS.

These two chemicals are carcinogens and are the top 5 chemicals to avoid, any reasoning behind your recommendation?

Although cetaphil is a great cleanser (I have been using it since 4 years ago), its pH is slightly high (pH - 6.3). You can test it using pH strips like how we did during primary/secondary school (can be bought from aliexpress for USD 0.43 with free shipping).

Human skin pH value range from 4.2 - 5.6 and any distruption to the pH value of skin (technically: acid mantle) will increase the chance of developing skin abnormalities according to a study

There's also a study linking pH level of cleanser and acne!  drool.gif

or you can read more about it from here (the simpler english format)

REMEMBER TO READ THEM IT'S EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. icon_rolleyes.gif

/r/skincareaddiction and /r/asianbeauty from reddit have very great information that will help you in scientifically interpreting what's wrong with your skin and which product to use. But of course, there's a saying - YMMV (your mileage may vary aka products that work on you may not work on the others, and vice Versa.) We can only follow the general rule (evidence based) and pray for the best. But remember, always listen to your skin! (or rather look at your skin)

I've been looking at the lactacyd liquid (not the vaginal wash variant) as it has a nice pH of 3.5. Ingredient as follow:

Purified water,Ammonium, triethanolamine alkylsulfates, Lactawax, Lactic acid,Spray dried lactoserum, Ethylhydroxyethylcellulose, Fragrance, Sodium methylparaben, Cholesterol, Phosphoric acid, Concentrated sodium hydroxide.

It doesn't have any potent surfactant that can strip away the skin sebum and it has a nice pH of 3.5!

Can try to get it at any pharmacy (guardian watson caring)

Anyway, for those who wanna buy the cetaphil gentle skin cleanser, I recommend you to go to AA pharmacy to buy it. (1L selling at RM69 which is DAMN CHEAP).

Normal cleanser cost about RM10/100ml but for Cetaphil in 1L form, it's only RM6.9/100ml (how CHEAP IS THAT  shocking.gif  shocking.gif  shocking.gif ).

AA pharmacy however is in KL only sad.gif. They also sell benzac AC 2.5 and many acne products.

I first found out about cetaphil from this post (credits to jinyee for the awesome initiative  rclxms.gif ), however as much as I want to love my cetaphil, I am worried about its pH as  it's a bit drying for me.  cry.gif  But of course, YMMV!

Just my 2 cents!  thumbup.gif

Thanks for sharing, does it mean it is always better to use a low pH cleanser as bacteria will not easily thrive in this pH?

Also, it can clear away the acne and scars easily?
