Yesterday night i apply NOTS for the very 1st time. This morning when i wake up u found out tat the pimples tat i appy NOTS on it is dry out but i leave a red marks or red dots tat are very obvious. Isit normal? I worry that if i apply on acne all over my face, my fgace will full of red marks. Or isit happened coz the quantiti tat i apply is too much? but i only apply a low amount of NOTS only.
*
Its normal at first. It will fade very soon. Its called as post inflammantory hyperpigmentation. When your acne has clear, then probably I can recommend some thing to you for the marks.

Hi jinyee...

I'm new here. Need your advice on my acne problem.

currently i'm using Murad skincare for almost 3 months now but still no improvement, i think it's getting worse. i've tried many products before include nuetrogena but no luck. My skin is oily..and i got scars and blackheads.

any suggestions to get rid of the acne, scar and blackhead..?
Thanks
*
Murad is not good. Actually its the same with Proactiv solution. They are too harsh for the skin. Try my regimen, and read through the posts in this thread to get more info.

Try CETAPHIL, it works!

Nope, only on acne and other products that may trigger acne as well, such as shampoo and etc.

Nope. Working as a banker in full time and doing research regarding acne as my part time job. My mum is a dermatologist in UK, so her helps meant a lot to my research.

When we press there is creamy white thing coming out, is this call whiteheads?

Is Benzoyl Peroxide effective to this as well?
*
You could call it as pus as well. Its actually the result of inflammation. Yes, BP will dry it out. Normally the pus is the result of our white blood cell fighting against the P.acne bacteria. So, when BP plays its role, it releases oxygen into the pores and oxygen kill the bacteria. Thereby, white blood cell does not need to react further. So, you will see less pus as you use BP.

Yup, you could try it. Some forumers have feedbacked me about PanOxyl.

Any comment about Lactacyd liquid wash ph 3.5 (for face and body use)?
*
Would you use something to wash your private part to wash your body or face? Its too acidic, do not suits the skin pH.

QUOTE(gangsterlawyer @ Sep 27 2006, 07:01 PM)
hi; stumbled upon this forum by accident - have a few questions to ask (although they have probably been repeated constantly over this forum - so pls forgive me for that). Recently came back to Msia (sabah) after 6 years abroad and started suffering from mild to moderate acne about 4 months ago. It has subsided although I still have the occasional acne here and there along with the scars which is annoying the hell out of me.

Just recently used Eucerin Mild Daily Scrub and found that after a week, I broke out quite badly. Since then, I have switched to the Neutrogena Skin Clearing Wash, Toner and Essence. Are these products beneficial and does the Vitamin A and Salicylic Acid help in healing the scars?

Are there are good acne scars treatment available apart from Elicina? I have tried MEderma which does squat; and have recently purchased Condolisa Scar Gel and was told that it works well. A friend told me to try Palmer's Skin Success Eventone Fade Cream which contains Vitamins C, E and Alpha Hydroxy Acid. I am at a loss at which to use as I was considering using Cetaphil along with any recommended scar treatment.

Thank you for your time in answering~
*
From my experience, besides Benzoyl Peroxide, I don't see any Over-the-counter product or active inrgedients that can kill acne as fast as it. I could say that its the most effective and straight forward way.

You don't need Vitamin A or Salicylic Acid. The advertisement may claim it works but actually if you apply tonnes of products on your skin, you will end up with adverse result. Stick to BP, then you will see the wonder. For your info, please read through the thread to know more about the recommended regimen.

You don't need any scar healing product yet. No point applying it while in another part you get new acne. Solve a problem 1st, before you create another. Patient is the word. When your face is totally clear, then we could start to discuss other products.

Better than Elicina. Yup, laser surgery, dermabrasion, punch technique and so on. You need a lots of money to really minimize the acne mark. Victoria Beckham has acne scars, pitted holes on her face, and now if you look into her face, its smooth. How much do you think she invested on her face?

What about Neutrogena Skin Clearing? It contains salicylic acid. I've been using oxy for almost a month. I also take vitamin C. It is still not as i expected.
*
Salicylic acid sucks. It tends to irritate skin. Move to Benzoyl Peroxide.
Remember, use a MILD cleanser, then BP, your skin will clear in 2.5months.

QUOTE(cocolala @ Sep 28 2006, 01:05 PM)
The one I was talking about isnt for washing the private part. the description says its for face and body wash esp for problem skin.

anyway yea it might be too acidic.
*
Then, it is still too acidic. Last time a friend of mine was using the cleanser of a brand - Neostrata. Which it claims the glycolic acid and PHA inside will smoothen the skin. She ended up with oily skin (previously she has normal skin ) and now having acne problem. What is the rational? AHA and PHA irritate skin. Please put it away. A mild cleanser will do the charm. You don't need vitamin A to Z or other properties in the cleanser. The less thing is better. Then, use BP, your skin will really heal.

jinyee, read ur earlier posts - very informative. Just wondering whether you have found any substitutes for the NOTS seeing as how they have stopped circulating them. Does weather play a major role in one suffering from acne?
*
Still negotiating with the supplier about the substitute. The person in charge for wholeselling has travelled to Seattle this month, so gonna wait him to come.

Put it in this way, environment temperature plays a role in acne. However, its not among the major causes.

That's a good sign of you are a delightful person. I don't think there is something that is so compromising to recommend it to you. BOTOX? you need $$$ for that.

Try the regimen that I recommended, because it lets the skin to return to its natural form and with that the skin by itself can mitigate the problems.

Will this regime work Jinyee?

Lemme get things right, use the BP first and then moisturiser, right? But BP only at night, right?
*
Ya, you are right about the product.

Daytime
Cleanse->Moisturize( if you frequently expose to air-cond otherwise can be excluded)

Nighttime
Cleanser->BP-> Moisturize. Use BP once per two nights in the first week and once per night in the second week onwards

You will feel the change of the texture of your skin after 1 week.

I think Jinyee80 will like usual, introduce u Cetaphil & Neutrogena on the spot!!
Cetaphil make my skin smoother but use NOT still haven't see result on blackhead area
*
Yup, its a norm anyway. Lets make things easy. Two steps of CETAPHIL and NOTS, then you are done.

Remember 28 days cycle for blackhead, so you need to apply BP to eliminate it.

NIVEA is not really a good product.

Be patient, use the regimen for 2.5months, then feedback. Yup, heard of palmer, its using shark liver oil, well, we can discuss about this after your acne is clear.

Is the the recommended regimen(cethapil cleanser + mosturiser and PanOxyl) suitable for me?  I'm a teenage guy and i have being having acne which appears frequently.  The acnes appears usually 1 or 2 around the cheek area mostly.  Although they dont apear much at a time but they appear frequently.  And these acne sometimes turn worse and inflamation and swelling occurs which last 1-2weeks.  And some even worse.  Sometimes bumps appear in a form of darkened spot and i think there is pus inside.

And my skin sometimes appear to be dry and dehydrated.  Is it because of the air cond?  My whole house is air conditioned and i sleep with the air cond on too.

Thanks  smile.gif
*
Yup, the regimen suits you. The condition happens repeatedly at the same place is because you did not clear up the remaining bacteria in the pores which this lead to another break out.

My face was the worst face wif a lot of acne. So i am considered experienced in combatting pimples. my advice, drink lots of water, eat veges, no or little preservative n ajinomoto n oily fuds n spicy fuds. Extra tips: eat sweetpotatoes9detoxification) and sea algaes
*
Sweet potato is okie, but sea algae, I don't think highly consuming it will help because as we know that sea products contain a lots of iodine. And when you google around, you will somehow find out there's a link between acne and iodine. Over dosage of iodine will contribute to acne.

QUOTE(sE_vIxEn @ Oct 8 2006, 02:57 PM)
i got my acne cleared up by having a drug called co-trimazole by Ting Skin Clinic's Dr Ting located somewhere near Imbi's Sakura night club.

after having the drug for 6 months, no breakout happened. then to get rid of my oil seed, i took another drug called Nimegen (Isotetrinoin) which stops oil production and lessen my oil seed problem...

and the doctor also prescribed me a cream, it worked like a charm. for those who have severe acne, i think medical assistance is really a must. smile.gif

i tried Neutrogena before. hell, it wasn't suitable for me. sad.gif if you guys found that Neutrogena works for ya, go ahead and continue the regimen. wink.gif
*
Well, Accutane is isotretinoin, a vitamin A derivative administered in pill form. It is usually taken for a period of four or five months. Doctors often recommend it to people with severe acne, the kind that can scar. Accutane is a hard-core medication which works from the inside out, shrinking the oil glands.

Accutane is widely considered the most important advance in acne treatment ever. Accutane results are often dramatic and permanent. Initially, it worked miracles. After a few weeks on Accutane, breakouts might stop dead in their tracks. Some will experienced no breakouts whatsoever for the remainder of the time you took the prescription. People with fantastic skin would come up to you and say, "I wish I had your skin". It was pretty incredible.

However, the drug is very powerful. Accutane side effects are numerous and can be severe. Bones and joints ached while one is taking the prescription. The joints have never fully returned to their pre-accutane state. One might fell very dried out during the course of accutane. Lips got severely chapped and eyes will also felt strange and dry at times.

The side effect of accutane will be severe, so its advisable that if there's no alternative, perhaps you should not take it.

Please visit the following site to obtain more info
http://www.fda.gov/cder/drug/infopage/accutane/default.htm

Neutrogena On-the-spot did not work on you, its either you use it after your accutane session or you are sensitive to BP. Please do let me know more. blush.gif

For shallow scar, microdermabrasion should help.

http://www.dermanew.com

I used to know that recently they juz have an agent in Malaysia, so the cost will not be as high as the price it was sold in the States.

Anyhow, should you intend for a more natural way, please visit http://www.elicina.com for more info.

jinyee,

can u tell me wats microdermabrasion and its function???not really a cosmetic product-savvy.tq!!

QUOTE
Microdermabrasion (often referred to as Microderm) is a cosmetic procedure popular in day spas, doctors' practices, and medical spas, in which the stratum corneum (dead outermost surface of the skin) is partially or completely removed by light abrasion. Different methods include mechanical abrasion from jets of zinc oxide or aluminum oxide crystals, fine organic particles, or a roughened surface. Particles and removed material are vacuumed off through the wand/handpiece through which the abrasive particles come. Microdermabrasion is used to remove sun-damaged skin and to remove or lessen scars and dark spots on the skin. The procedure is not very painful and requires no anaesthetic. Microdermabrasion can be used medically for scar removal when the scar is raised above the surrounding skin, but is less effective with sunken scars. Microdermabrasion can also be used for treatment of acne, but must be repeated periodically to be effective.

In the past, microdermabrasion was done using abrasive crystals. In the past decade, it has become more common to use a wand with a roughened surface. This procedure requires no medical oversight and is commonly used in conjunction with facial spa treatments. These days there are a multiplicity of machines available for microdermabrasion.

Microdermabrasion is a relative newcomer to the United States. This technique was first used in Europe and adopted by United States in the late 1990s. Today, Microdermabrasion is used effectively to treat fine wrinkles, stretch marks, and scars left from moderate to severe acne. The term dermabrasion refers to the more severe procedure carried out under general or twilight anaesthesia.

*
Yup, azelaic acid is known to fight acne but the problem is it did not really go to the root of the problem. It exfoliates the skin but it did not eliminate P.acne bacteria. To me, I would rather to eliminate the problem rather than repeatedly doing the same thing periodically and still hoping it will works in charm.

Micro Zinc-PT in the shampoo has no proof contributing to acne. To me, I would say that please do not use shampoo that is overdry, which this is not only affect your hair, but will also affect some of your facial area. Overdry shampoo meanings that after you shampoo your hair, it will be hard and dry.

Anyway, I will keep you all up to date with the ingredients in shampoo that can bring acne.

* Sodium laureth - 13 Carboxylate - An anionic surfactant increasing the cleansing power of some shampoos.

* Stearic acid - A common, naturally occurring fatty acid widely used as an inexpensive primary emulsifying agent. When neutralized with triethanolamine, it functions as a tremendous thickening agent. Its soap -like character enables it to penetrate the skin and to have emollient, skin -softening properties.

* Stearyl Alcohol - An emulsion stabilizer; also adds body to a lotion.

Thanks for the info. Anyway, some person might be irritated by certain product. So, its really hard to detail down everything. As I said, if you really intend to have good skin, use only water. The Diamond filtered water will do, but imagine the pollution that we are encounter, do you think with only water you can get away from the dirt and debris that you faced everyday?

Hi Jinyee,
I'm a new member in this forum. I'm interested in this topic since i'm having problem with acne from the past 4 months.

I have tried your recommendation to use the cetaphil gentle cleanser. I like to use it since its very mild, BUT it didn't clean my face very well and create a lot of blackheads (eventhough i always use cleansing oil to remove my make up). Then i stopped using it. Do you think the liquid cleanser from neutrogena will clean my face better?

Another question:
I'm using tinted moisturizer every day. Compare with Foundation, which one is better? FYI, i have an oily skin type.
Thank you very much smile.gif

For those who has more oily skin, I would certainly recommend the liquid neutrogena, but in the condition that you wash your skin ONLY once per day with that. Then, you apply the NOTS.

If your tinted moisturizer color fit to your skin color then its fine, because as you know that tinted one their color is limited. I think you just apply a thin layer of the normal moisturizer, then apply the foundation. Make sure the foundation is labelled as non-comedogenic!

jinyee,

i'm 19 now and i have been dealing with my acne for years... but none of the products really work for me... i have a combination and sensitive skin... oily at the t-zone and a little dry at the cheeks... i always have acne breakout nearly every weeks... and i also have blackheads problem... currently, i'm using st.ives apricot face wash for oily/acne prone skin... but, it's kind of too dry for me... and i'm planning to change to cetaphil... but, it seems like it's a bit difficult to find cetaphil's product at my place... do you have any other recommendation??
*
You don't actually have to us st.ives apricot cleanser because it will cause irritation on certain people and on the other hand, its drying.

You could find Cetaphil in Guardian and Vitacare. I would advise those who wanted to start using it to buy a small size one rather than straight away going to the biggest size one.

ok... now, i'm starting to use cetaphil gentle cleanser and the moisturizer... and my dermatologist actually gave me tretinon... so, should i apply tretinon before moisturizer of after?
*
If you were not using NOTS, its ok for you to use trenitoin. However, you should make sure that you moisturize your skin well cause it gonna cause dryness.

NOTS so far is still my preference. But since they gonna stop it, so, its really a dilemma currently.

I am in the middle of negotiating with a US supplier because the BP that he produced is similar to NOTS. If ok, then would you all interested on that?

i went to Dubai, and tried my luck at pharmacies there for NOTS. and I was told that they are out of stock everywhere. and in the end i purchased a Panoxyl instead for about RM11.

Well, seems like its not the problem of Malaysia. Why not majority of us go to neutrogena.com and send an email towards the demand for NOTS since it really helps a lot in acne. Teamwork is more powerful I guest.
