Hi!,

I was at the LHDN yesterday & made enquiries with the Tax Officer on 2 items:-

1. Tax Relief for "Purchase of Sports Equipment"
--------------------------------------------------------
I asked the officer whether the Ogawa ezTone can be claim for Tax Relief. He wasn't sure so he called his boss & CONFIRMED that can be claim.

My worry is if I claimed for Tax Relief BUT after a few year they may reject & impose a penalty of 45%.

2. Tax Relief for "Medical expenses for serious illness (incl. full medical examinations up to RM500) for spouse.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My wife (full-time housewife) was admitted to hospital for "acute gastritis".
Expenses incurred incl. medical examinations (imaging, X-ray & laboratory tests) plus treatment/procedure/wad.

Question:
Can I claim for the TOTAL EXPENSES incurred? If NO, then can I claim just for the medical examinations (imaging, X-ray & laboratory tests) COST which is subjected to a max. of RM500. I did not claim the medical examination for myself so the RM500 relief is still unused.

I have made "online" enquiry via LHDN website becos' I need a black & white answer from them before I claim for the Tax Reliefs. Worry that they may change their mind on the intepretations & impose a penalty on me at a later date.

Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks!

2. discuss with doctor

Thanks for your suggestions.

Anyway, I just received a call from JHDN regarding my email enquiries and they CONFIRMED that the Ogawa ezTone is claimable as for Tax Relief under "Purchase of Sports Equipment".

As for the medical expenses, they do not consider it as "serious illness", BUT I am allow to claim Tax Relief for just the medical examination only, subjected to a max. of RM500.

Just called up LHDN at 1-800-88-5436 & they confirmed that the relief for "Broadband" only for Year 2010 - 2012.

In fact their latest brochure on "TAX DEDUCTION, RELIEF & REBATE" also don't have such item.

Regarding the hard copies document that need to keep for 7 years, I am a bit struggle with the receipt that I keep especially for book. Even the printed receipt by Popular, it will going to fade off, after 2 or 3 years, look back at the receipt, it is just a blank paper. Started last year, I hv started to photocopy the receipt and keep together, but I am not sure whether the photocopy can be accept by LHDN, since the original copy is already fade off. Anyone hv the same issue??
*
Photocopies accepted. They audited me twice but got no problem.

I usually do a scan of the receipt & print again as a hardcopy. You can group together a few receipts (cut & paste) into Excel or MS Word document for printing.

Hi!,

Is there a way to check online our statement of account showing the monthly PCB deductions, tax amount & balance? I remember someone posted in FB indicating the process to check online but forgotten how to do it.

Thanks.

My father suffered heart attack last year and I hired a maid to take care of him.
I am still confused if I can claim a deduction up to RM 5,000.

Seems no website can clarify this and till date, cant get to contact LHDN.
*
I strongly suggest to email them for clarification. At least you will get a "black & white" email response from them in order to protect yourself should they reject your "claim" in case they audit you in future.

Goto their website www.hasil.gov.my
Click on the tab "Maklum Balas" > "Borang Maklum Balas Pelanggan"
A new page will be displayed.
Click on the tab "Taxation Inquiry" > "Individual Taxation"

In my case my wife was hospitalised but they said I CANNOT claim for it. However I was allow to claim for those medical examination fees only. They actually called me via phone the next day & clarify over the phone. Upon my request they responded my inquiry via email. At least I get a "black & white" response.

Another case was I enquired regarding whether the Ogawa ezTone was classified as "Sports Equipment" & I got positive response from them too.

Attached are the sample of the replies from them.

P/S I actually scanned all the documents & bills & attached with my email in order to facilitate them to response.

parent medical cost is allowed but not parent in-law
*
You, sure? I managed to claim for my mother-in-law for her eye operation. You need to present your case to the LHDN officer. In may case, wife not working & the only brother-in-law is an "OKU" so no income ..... meaning the medical expenses is from my pocket! That's why can claim ;-)

Worst scenario is to get a receipt under your parent's name.

For those who may not be aware, any medical expenses with receipts issued in your parents name are claimable. So better ask clinic to issue receipt under parents name if you can't claim from employer ;-). Some employer do not cover for spouse or childrens.
