So im planning to buy some games from Amazon since I have a few $5 vouchers.. specifically Dark Souls and Metal Gear Rising.

problem is both of the games above are region locked since we can't access their steam pages, but if I buy the steam key can I activate it and play?

thanks.

Dark Souls should be fine, but I would avoid Metal Gear Rising.

Just cancelled my Amazon Metal Gear Rizing pre-order this morning due to region lock. Heard that this region lock is even worse than Darksoul which incidentally I have. Bought from Amazon as well.

By the way, do mean the $5 voucher or store credit from Amazon holiday sales? If it is a credit from the sales, you can only purchase Editor's choice game which excluding Metal Gear Rizing and Dark Soul.

Yea i just realized that its for editor's choice games only. haha.

I went ahead and bought Metal Gear Rising anyways and sure enough, the key didn't work. I used Hotspot Shield as a VPN to the USA and the key activated. Preloading it now as I speak. So any VPN to the USA/Europe will work.

FYI, never ever try to activate game key with VPN, you will get permanent ban by steam.

really? I searched for a long time and forums like NeoGAF people said key activations won't get banned, only game purchases through VPN at steam store will get banned.

oh well. Pray they won't ban me now unsure.gif

after deeper searches i found out that Steam no longer bans accounts in this type of situation, just disables the access to purchase games and activating keys.

edit: i think thats talking about VAC bans. ignore this post. will update if i get banned

well, im not really sure what steam does either. but im fairly sure your account is disabled so you cannot use it/log in or play any games etc.

Don't take my word for it though, since im not really an expert at this area.

I don't want to pay for the game and yet have to risk my account being banned by them as well. That is why I prefer to cancel my pre-order instead of using proxy/VPN to circumvent the region lock.

Anyway, have anyone here tried Amazon's Ace Combat Assault Horizon Steam DRM? Can it be use to activate in our region? Without resorting to proxy/vpn of course.
