Thread starter might take the design and never pay, unless it's signed in black and white.

Getting Started

|
dear seaqcumber,
It is just downright disrespectful to ask designers to do spec work or free work. Why should any designer wish to create or design 1 - 2 designs for free for you or your company if you cant even go around to find the right way of looking and enquiring design services? I'm sure you would claim to be a professional firm and we would expect a more mature and professional behavior from you.
#to all designers in lowyat,
please note that it is unwise to do spec/free work for people who claim they might pay you for your work if you are selected. Thats why a thing called 'portfolio' was invented to see whether we are suited for a specific client or specific target audience. This 'portfolio' saves time and is able to view the designers capabilty. And please learn to protect yourselves with a contract with terms and conditions. I advise all designers, especially freelance ones to always use a contract for every project.
Cheers.

For any business transactions, there are risks. If anyone is unable to stomach the risk of design theft, non payment, short change or any negative consequence. And also those who insist on formalities, 'right way', 'professional behaviour' and what not, we will advise not to participate.
For those who believe it may be worth the risk, and the payout is good for you, then by all means participate. If you have what it takes, we may engage you for the coming Christmas, CNY + other services we might need.
For apparel design tips, try visiting the departmental store, look at the kids section for ideas.
