back ur manager.
u've informed the director about suggestion A and do not recommend B, and the director agrees with u. u should try to back ur manager's decision to go for B. ur director is evaluating both u and the manager. if u've played ur cards too fast, u'll be seen as overzealous and ready to step over other people to get higher posts, and also can be seen as bodek boss.
this characteristic can be seen as weak and undecisive as well. but backing ur manager would be a way to go. only when the manager agrees with the director's suggestion A will u start working on A. if not, stick to B.
ur still under ur manager's supervision despite ur strong relationship with the director. never overstep ur position. if u respect this, people will respect u more. the director will know if ur on his side, u wont backstab him. so build up the reputation.
Interesting office situation
