Before I went to korea in Jan I bought AXA i think costs about 50 bucks for my 10 days there. Do it online.

Bought it from AXA and did it online. It was quick and easy. Thanks for the recommendation!

I will be going to Seoul for 1 year starting mid-June for volunteering at a youth organization. In short, my accommodation is covered, and they give little amount of cash allowance for survival but in no way it's salary or employment)

I might go other country nearby (Japan/HK/Taiwan or even come back Malaysia) to refresh the 90days if needed but I don't want to go out 3-4 times just to refresh.

Is there any way I can extend my stay for > 90 days but not applying for an employment visa? Because I am not exactly employed and it's not by a "company".

I heard something like I can apply for the Alien Registration Card (ARC) to get extension but I am not sure is this the thing I need. Do I need a reason to apply for that or I can just say I'm travelling here for >90 days?

Thank you in advance smile.gif

I think Malaysian can't stay more than 90 days without a visa.

If you really want to stay with a visa, you can get student visa.
You can apply for D-4 pass if you enroll to Korean language class in Korea.
There is evening class if you can't go to class in the morning or afternoon.
If you don't want to spend money and time on going for Korean class, the best way is to fly in and out every 90 days.

As for Alien Registration Card, it is like the IC for foreigners, I think you need to have a visa or authorization letter to apply for it. Doesn't make sense for Korea to issue ARC to anyone who wants to stay there longer without visa.

Better check with the company who sponsor you for the program and Korea embassy in Malaysia.
I believe they should have thought about the visa problem before offering the program to foreigners who don't have visa.

Thank you guys! Last question, hopefully, about phone renting.
The information given in TS post is more like for a group, but I'm traveling alone meeting my Korean friends there.
Which phone should I rent or simcard should I buy? I will be there for about a week, and hope to get a decently cheap one that comes with a good amount of data for a week.

Thanks! Appreciate!

If you go there for 5 days, there is one event that you can get free Samsung Note 5 with 1GB data everyday.
Link --> http://emk.visitkorea.or.kr/about

But now you can also get free EG simcard with 2,000won credit in it.
Link --> http://egsimcard.co.kr/eng/news-event/even...um=104508&pno=1

You can reload based on how much data you want to use.
(if you reload 500MB and above you get to use free Olleh wifi too)

5GB 44,000krw
3GB 33,000krw
2GB 22,000krw
1GB 16,500krw
500MB 11,000krw
100MB 5,500krw

If you use a lot of data, the best is to get wifi egg with unlimited data biggrin.gif

Depends on where you are planning to go. If you are mainly travelling in tourist district, there will be someone who can speak English or Chinese, and signs often will be in English/Chinese/Japanese too. Worse comes to worst, you can always use body language and online translator (I recommend Naver Translator). No worries, you will survive smile.gif
