guys, is mount sorak enjoyable during winter?

I was there last winter. The views are beautiful...a stark type of beauty. If you plan to hike up, waterproof boots is a must and I recommend crampons for traction. Temp can reach -20 on top.

Any good recommendation of guesthouse/hostel/apartment for a family of 4? With parent in 50s. Budget Rm400/per night. Was considering Chungmuro residence@Myeongdong due to its location but seem like there are many bad reviews about the service, eg. Rude staff.

Going in early Feb next year, anyone going there during that period too?

Hey there...if you are okay with a little distance to Seoul, try Daelim Residence in Guro. I paid KRW109K approximately RM240 per night for a room that can fit four. It has two Queen Size Beds in the room.

Althernatively you can check out IBVILLE Residence which has family rooms available but are pricier at KRW120K per night.

If you stay at Daelim, it will be a 20 min subway ride to the heart of Seoul. It is definitely cheap, the owner is very nice and it is very near to AK Plaza which is a mall. The food around this area is also cheaper. I went to a BBQ restaurant recommended by Mr Kim, one of the staff and one set of beef was only KRW16K. In Myeondong it was KRW22K for the same set. It is a 5 minute brisk walk to the subway station.

As for IBVille, it is also a good place but it is on hill so walking is a little troublesome. If your parents are active walkers this should not be a problem. IBville is in Myeondong but not in the heart of it.

Please note that there will be a lot of walking and most subway stations do not have escalators or lifts so if you want the most convenience for your parents or if they are not big walkers then it would be better for you to get a place in the heart of Myeondong but it is of course pricier.

In South Korea at the moment. On the way to Seoul from Pyeongchang. Weather in Pyeongchang about -10 to -15 for the last three days. Snowed for two days so skiing was excellent. Love Yongpyong Resort.

Hello guys, hope I posted it on the right section.
Planning to organize a Korea Snowboard/Ski trip with a few of my friends on the coming Mid of November 2016.

Just came back recently from my first Korea Snowboard trip.

Spend a few days at Pyeongchang-gun famous ski park and went back down to Seoul for a few day stay before coming back.
Really enjoy the scenery and environment especially on Pyeongchang-gun.

It's my first Snowboard trip in Korea so I think we have taken quite a few unnecessary routes and trips, hope to get some insight from you guys here for my coming Mid November ski trip.

Here are the itinerary for my previous trip:
First Day: Incheon airport > Fetch by friend to relative house in Seoul and stay for a night there.

Second Day: Relative house to subway station > Incheon bus terminal > Bought ticket (approximately 3hour+ trip) to hoenggye bus terminal
-Arrived Hoenggye bus terminal and took a taxi to Kensington Flora Hotel (our hotel), taxi fare is ₩10,000
-Arrive to hotel and Checked in, took the hotel complimentary bus (selected time only) to Yongpong Ski Resort for my first day night snowboard.
-After finish our snowboard sessions, we request the hotel to contact a taxi and took us back (bad idea), the taxi fare from Yongpong Ski Resort to Kensington Flora Hotel (our hotel) is about ₩36,000
-Arrive hotel and ask for the complimentary bus schedule, found out that they have very limited time schedule, so we follow their schedule 0830AM depart from Hotel to Ski Resort (Selected Ski Resort) and 1730PM wait outside the Ski Resort (On which ever one that the bus drop you off) for bus to take us back, 1730PM is the only time the bus will take us back, later than that we will have to take Taxi back ourselves.

*Lift, Gear and Apparel and Rental info:*
https://www.yongpyong.co.kr/eng/skiNboard/u...e/liftCharge.do
https://www.yongpyong.co.kr/eng/skiNboard/u...onFee/rental.do.

Follow Day: We follow the schedule of our hotel and wake up early to take the bus to nearby Ski Resort, this time we went to a different Ski resort (Alpensia Ski Resort) which is still close-by (about 2-3km apart) to the one we went on the previous day (Yongpong Ski Resort).
-Lift and Rental is approximately the same, maybe a few thousand ₩ difference, total up is nothing more than ₩10,000
-Alpensia definitely have a better facility compare to Yongpong, they have Casino (altho its close when we went there), Waterpark (with Spa and Sauna), and a whole lot of selection for dining.
-As for Snowboard/Ski, Yongpong has better slopes compare to Alpensia, but Alpensia is much suitable for beginners.

Other Day: Went back to Yongpong for the rest of the remaining day (Because we find that the slopes in Yongpong is better) and went back to Seoul and stay at relative house for a few days before coming back to Msia.

-----------

Trip analysis:
-Could have save quite a lot if we were to bring our own gears (Snowboard/Ski, Boots, Apparel) and not to mention that we are not bounded by rental time.

-Did further research after found out that there is a package for Yongpong Ski Resort that includes the Room+Ski/Board Lift and other benefits. (https://booking.yongpyong.co.kr/IRS/eng/resort/packagemainPage.do) but there are no discounts or special rates from Agoda.

-There are a few special rates from Agoda for Alpensia Ski Resort but I can't find out what Alpensia can offer anything more besides that?

Hope you guys can review my trip and give me some advices on my coming trip. Details of my coming trip:
Approx Mid-End of November, initial planing is 3 guy 1 girl, expecting 1 guy and 2 more girl to join in.
8 Day trip,
Will be spending most of our time at Pyeongchang-gun and maybe 2-3 day in Seoul.

Thanks in advance!

I love winter in SK and skiing is definitely cheaper in SK.
My tips to save money:
1. Stay at Hoenggye. They have much cheaper rooms and you can get cheaper ski/snowboard rental. There is also a free shuttle to Yongpyong. Taxis are about KRW9K. Food is also way cheaper in Hoenggye. Alternatively try hostels at Yongpyong but its not easy to get a space. You need to call up.
2. Always get discount vouchers from visitkorea website. Sometimes you can also get vouchers from yongpyong website. In Dec 2014, I paid only KRW6K for full day at the slopes. Lift and Rental all in.
3. If your relative has a Korean credit card or a Korean friend with a Korean credit card...ask for their help to book. They can get more than 50% off even for board. You just pay them cash.
4. I understand there is airport transfer direct to Yongpyong. I did not try but I did take a bus from Alpensia straight to Jamsil subway station and then the AREX to airport.

BTW powder quality is not that great in Nov. Try end of Dec or 1st two weeks of Jan. Much better as more snow fall. Also in addition to skiing if you want to see amazing sights check out Daegwallryeong Farm in winter....beautiful scenery.
