dear shifus,

coming from someone who been living in old landed all these while and have never use hood before, may i know if by installing the hood it can really absorb the oil and surface of kitchen cabinets and floors won't be oily?

as i m getting my own condo and wondering if wet kitchen is really necessary or i can make do with open kitchen and have a glass partition perhaps.

will deep fry fish once a while smile.gif and cooking 2 meals a day lol..consider heaving cooking then

thanks for your advices!

give u an honest answer, floor will be oily too but less oily. Reason, when u fry fish, the oil that splatter out cant be sucked by the hood, the hood can only suck in smoke and evaporated oil, so less oil in kitchen but cooking area will b a little oily.

If you never use hood before your current house
1) Ceiling turn yellowish and may b black
2) Walls very oily
3) Very smoky n hot inside kitchen when heavy cook

by using hood you can reduce all these issues

Anyone used the toilet PVC pipe for cooker hood exhaust instead of the flex hose?

I wonder if there's any cons if using PVC pipe, should be able to withstand the heat I guess
*
i have customers used 6" pvc pipe, no issue but nowadays hood with high suction power requires 7" or bigger, so using the original pipe provided would b better

yes filter not as powerful as ducting, imagine we wear facemask also harder to breath. For condo, if management doesnt allow hacking or duct out, then no choice you need use recycle hood (filter)

for recycle hood what is important is oil filtration and not suction power, hood installation must be correct as well if not it will affect performance. Installing recycle hood is a bit tricky, when u drop by we can discuss further

from what i know
1) Safety Pin standard safety that most brands have, when there is no flame, it will cut off gas
2) Heat Sensor, if the bottom of the pot is too hot (burn dry til no water) then it will cut, this not many brands got and if spoil, cant ignite
3) Gas hob with timer, set time for auto cut gas

Shout out and thank you to @zheilwane / Builders Hardware.
Was looking for hood, hob etc. Learned a lot from here and also visits to home expo.
In the end bought from @zheilwane on first visit to his place. Excellent explanation, took his time to show us around and great unbeatable price.
We bought Fotile AMG9007i hood, EIG76203 hob, HZK72-H1 combi oven and BD2BV01 dishwasher.

Hi sifus,

1) Budget is RM 2k
2) Rarely cook, most is also grill fish
3) Quiet noise, so would go for DC motor
4) Brand is not important
5) L shape

Any idea on which model or brand based on the criteria listed?
Currently in my list is Livinox LCH-COPPERDC-90BL that is around RM 1,750

Hi zheilwane, have you heard of the Malaysia brand Elika Electrical hob Flame F-1? Is it reliable?
I'm doing kitchen cabinet build for my new home and the package which I'm taking comes with Midea Hood & Gas hob. I am planning to swap the gas hob to an electric hob & that's the model which the reno company given me.

I would also want to know if there's any recommendation for a set of hood+hob?
1) my budget is below 2k
2) normal light cooking
3) recirculation hood & electric hob.

Hi zheilwane, need help for my Livinox LCH Copper 90SS. I stay in a condo and using recirculating mode. The hood works fine, almost too well as the recirculated air is very strong and loud - any way to make it less tornado like?

Also, how do I change the carbon filter?

Hope you can advice, thanks!

Hi,

Need advice. What the normal measurement for hood and hob?

My wife looking smaller hood and hob. She prefers smaller a bit than normal size.

Will there be any effect in the long term if the item spoil. Unusual normal size maybe difficult to find replacement.

thanks.

standard size 900mm but got brands like Robam with 80cm or slim hood 60cm livinox. if u are doing cabinet to cover it, then yes finding replacement in future will be difficult, fotile previously also got 80cm hood in malaysia, discontinued.

Hi,

(1) Who will do the installation, the shop or the cabinet maker or need to hire a separate installer? I asked 2 shops and both said they just sell, no installation.

(2) Can the hood be fixed on a tiled wall?

(3) What is the required amp for hood and induction hob?

(4) Planning to get below. Any comment?

Hood - RCH Monza X-BL
Hob - induction RIH Rekka 44-BL

Requirement for hood is flat top, above 1500 suction, less noise and easy to clean. I think Fotile is out budget. Any similar combo/non-combo from Livinox, Midea or Elba sub 2.5K?

TQ

Based on my own experience, so don't take it as the holy grail.

1) shop doesn't provide installation but they can recommend installer.
You can also request/nego for cabinet maker to install (i think this is better).

2) yes.

3) for your hob, it says max 2.0 + 2.2kW, so a 20A should be sufficient. My Teka has total 4.6kW and the user manual says it only needs 15 or 16A mcb iirc. Mine comes with a 15A plug. 4mm² wires should be more than enough. I was too kiasu and ran a 6mm² wiring.

Hood uses very little power, so they normally tap from your 13A sso per advice from my electrician.

4) no idea.

Note: if I am redoing my kitchen, I'd run separate cables from main DB and set up another DB in the kitchen. Makes things easier if you want to add new 13A SSOs without having to limit electricity loading on the existing SSO circuit (using oven, or clothes dryer for example, if the dryer is using the existing shared circuit).

Thanks for answering. Yeah, I saw one post about setting up a separate DB at kitchen which I think is a good idea. Will discuss with my contractor.

Is the induction type of stove just placed directly onto the surface cut out without anything else to hold it in place, or need to use silicone to hold it / seal the boundary? Thanks
