Anyone have any idea on solving the widgets stop updating issues? It has become more frequent nowadays, the clock widget just stop and then notice all other widgets also hang.

The apps of the widget still runs ok and updated ok, just the widget stop updating. Have to reboot to solve everytime.

Based on initial finding, I think I found the source of all my widget freezing that require reboot since updated to 4.3 stock.

My juice defender app that has been used since S2. Disable it for 2 days. So far no freezing occur (previously happened a couple of times every day, that require reboot to recover).

QUOTE(cyruss @ Jan 22 2014, 02:06 PM)
Hi all S4 sifus.

I just bought a brand new S4 LTE model and was unpacking and peeling away all the transparent films/stickers that came with it.

I happen to notice that the rear camera lens too (might) have a transparent film pasted over it. Is it safe to peel it away, exposing the lens or leave it intact? I do noticed a slight blurriness in my photos taken.

Thanks.
*
Mine came with a film that have a hole in middle for the lens. That means the lens is not covered but the area around the lens are covered by the film. Left it there up to now.

and it didn't blur most of your pictures?
*
The lens in the middle is not covered by film. Its a film like your picture but there is a hole in the middle of the film (circle) that does not have film on it. So the film only covered the metallic frame and the inner frame but not the centre glass lens.

Now the film if stuck with dust but the middle glass still shiny coz no film there.

safe to buy from directd? just for confirmation tho. you buy from where Cavino

Buy from my dealer in Klang.

I would suggest getting from DirectD if they still have LTE SME, masuk lots of stocks thus sometimes get cheaper price. Got a very very busy shop in Subang (almost always packed with ppl coz bulk purchase cheaper price at times). Reliability should be ok kuah since a couple of forumner last time confirm ok from them. If don't want buy online, go straight to the shop, deal direct safer.

However those buying direct mentioned their service is shit.....coz too many ppl buying, business too good. For me, the phone is a cash and carry item, once checked everything ok and take, anything wrong, go Samsung anyway.

Haven't they pissed off customers enough? Now even block 3rd party accessories including those famous brand like spigen???
*
Oh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!

If they don't fix that officially, no more S5 for me (planning one as my wife will take over S4)..

Just take a look at his posts: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3078887?author=mudkipryan94

He think he's in Kopitiam or what. Dear mods and TS, please do something

Haha...

He can use whatever language he wants as long as the message is conveyed thru. So far most of his posts do so, I find it better than those that do not respond as all or only replied with absolute nonsense.

my s4 suddently gets hot only some times not always, like this night i kept under pillow morning wake up too hot battery finished. could it be board problem or it is normal some times.
*
You have some background apps running. Sometimes its a bugs in those apps or OS. When its running hot, use watchdog lite to check what is CURRENTLY running your CPU and battery down immediately.

To check what apps makan battery when that happen, use apps like GSam Battery Monitor to check which apps used the most batt to have a general idea especially when you're not using that apps actively when that happened.

Whoo....on the Note 3 spigen armor view KitKat incompatibility issue...

Luckily Samsung going backtrack.....I don't have to go buy that overpriced minimal drop protection S-View cover from Samsung for my S4.

S5, maybe they implement from the beginning tho.....

I'm slowly isolating my entire widget screen freezing issue (no widget update but apps still working), I think it might be the internet connection. If I off internet for a couple of days, no freezing. Once on, once in a while it will freeze and require reboot to recover auto-widget update.

Hi all..
Im planning to buy sd card for my s4.. can guide me, please?..
64gb works fine? Any the recomended type/brand?
Tq.. 😊
*
Although most cards work fine, it seems the least problematic is back to Samsung branded sd card. A tard more expensive but rarely heard card problem with Samsung smart phone.

thanks for the guide.. mm.. i've just dowloaded and using it right now but i dont really understand what's the sd card (in device storage) for?.. i tot it can really move my apps to my ext sd card ??.. tq
*
By default, you can move some apps (especially games, if the apps allowed it, some don't) thru application management to the card PARTIALLY. The data or save games will be saved onto internal memory portion.

What is the SD card for then?....It partially reduced the apps storage size in internal memory but not the whole thing. Some apps don't allow SD card transfer at all like my huge 1GB Chaos Ring games. Some GB size games do (Asphalt 8, etc) that automatically. Most you have to move thru application management in settings. ALL moved apps RETAINED a portion of their data in internal storage, huge portion or not, depends on the apps.

SD cards are useful to store huge libraries of MP3s, videos and photos that might otherwise limits your available internal storage size greatly. If you don't store MP3s, videos and photos at all, then SD card is not truly necessary especially if you have the 32GB LTE phone or your got lots of GB size apps ala games.

Fingerprint resistance or oleophobic coating is just a temporary feature. After using a couple of months or so, it will wear out. Then its back to normal for fingerprint smearing.

Looks like our S4 has just been "outdated" already by the new S5.  cry.gif

Technically, yes, reality, not so much. At first impression now, actually disappointed in it. Not much difference with S4 now. Not worth the upgrade from S4 to S5.

As a matter of fact, current S4 is even lighter and thinner than S5. So S4 still have its advantage.

We're going to have kitkat, same with it. That means the screen would likely looks almost the same. The extra sensors as such, is not useful for me. Since they concentrate on improving on the camera, guess that's what most ppl will divert their attention to.

Me ..having s4 ...lately this week ..noticed that my set is respond slow ..specially on the back button ...

Had google search for solution .. It said bcos of the update 4.3 ...
But all the comment comesfrom overseas ...

Anyone local ...user ..having this problem ...!!

I am thinking of factory reset ... You think it is wise ???

Please comment...

Check with gsam battery if anything eating up the batt even when you're not using. Use watchdog lite to check on the spot if any program using a large amt of CPU when you're having slowdown. Reboot the phone and retest if slow down again. Usually its a background process running amok...

I have to assume you still have a lot of memory space left. Check active app widget to check your available ram as well during the slowdown.

guys, anything needs to be noted when we buying an imported set? im planning to buy an imported  i9506 set from directd since s5 is so disappointing.
*
Sure or not, unless you want due to cheaper price. S5 although look similar to S4, do have much stronger processor. Although only 0.1" bigger screen with same resolution, it has a new imaging chip that "enhanced the coloring" further, so technically should be better display than current model. Enhanced battery means longer lasting tho its heavier and thicker a bit. Being newer flagship means Samsung will support this model at least 1 year longer.

I'm getting tired of the mdm_camera wakelock that's occasionally appear and eats up my battery. Hope 4.4 remedy that.

Still waiting to see if KitKat got any new critical problem before I begin download.

Anyone with installed official Kitkat, does 3rd party cover cause any problem (aka, the small info screen not appearing ala Note 3 initial update defect/or feature disable)?

I'm still using the Spigen Armor View, so need to know before installation.
