you can try jamal's GE rom although its rooted. there are other GE roms available but jamal's is very close to stock with very little mods installed..

yes you can. other than cwm you can also use twrp or philz, both are touch enabled. a reminder, pls make a nandroid backup before you flash just to be safe. and also pls read and understand the instructions given, if unclear get help.

Actually... I may be wrong, but flashing ROM doesn't require rooting, right?  Just flash custom recovery, then from the custom recovery, choose a zip to flash.  Then the custom ROM is already pre-rooted, no extra root required.  Right?

You need root access to inject custom recovery. Stock unrooted binaries doesn't allow custom recovery

This is a million dollar question. I will say Ok but not others and some installed many apps causing battery hungry and some with SOT 5 hours (example only) may said not enough.

But one thing can also 100% sure is second hand phone may come with wear battery that can't last long....

For my my SOT in between 3.5 to 4+ hours depending what i am using...

Here i present to all LYN-er's, especially to all S4 user community, my version of Performance + Battery tweaks.
It is a compilation of various android system tweaks and i made them balanced between Performance and Battery life. It is still in beta phase but it is running fine in my system (i9500) since last 2 weeks. Need to be rooted of course

I compiled them myself but it is not me who the pioneer of the most running part in this tweaks, i just collect each of them, which i found the most reliable tweaks, and edit some lines & parameters to make it more stable based on my taste. I named this mod as Simplicism Mod

The most obvious tweaks ive included is CrossBreeder, SQLite Optimized, Kernel parameter tweaks (Better Deepsleep). Most of these tweaks maybe not working in other devices except i9500/i9505. As of the kernel, ive checked between i9500 and i9505 and there is no big change in parameters, to be exact, all is likely the same. So this tweaks should work on i9505 too.

Ive also changed the CrossBreeder so it will not interfere with Animation/Transition speed change. As many user would recommend it this way.

Please make a Nandroid Backup before flashing

- Reboot into Recovery (CWM/TWRP)
- Wipe Cache Partition & Dalvik Cache
