Rather than everyone here throwing wild but educated guesses... take to a better mechanic preferably one with a diagnostic tool or direct go SC.

It's almost impossible to diagnose without actually checking the car physically unless it's a straightforward or common problem for the model.

High FC can be caused by many things. But 6.3km/l is definitely too high.

Will update soon on the matter

1. Check all tire pressure
2. Check all alignment are good
3. Check that there is no sticking brake pad (see if brake pad is worn more on one side or the other)
4. Check oxygen sensor (there might even be 2 sensors)

Oxygen sensor don't last the life of the car. Massive jump in FC is usually due to oxygen sensor, but check the other things as well just to be sure. If I were to guess the culprit, I'd wager on the oxygen sensor that needs to be replaced.

Fyi...15.6km/l is too good..we have a 01 Camry 2.2 as well and its around 8.5-11km/l..so the optra is too high

Based on the figures given, its 270 km for 28.6l that is 9.4km/l which is good..but mine is 6.3km/l

There is nothing you can do, wiki article mention the car have poor fuel consumption, much higher than mid-size car. Not to mention an old car consume more fuel.

You bought a poor car

How is your tyre pressure ? When was the last time you inflate the tyre ? Many ppl are so lazy to inflate the tyre at the correct pressure . You must inflate the tyre once a month or at least once every 2 months . Some ppl think they inflate the tyre once a month when in fact they do it once every few months .

What viscosity your motor oil ? Thicker oils like xW-50 use more petrol . That's why new car manufacturer recommends thinner oil like xW-30 oils for maximum fuel economy .

Use an OBII adapter and plug in to your car. Then use an app like Torque on Android and it can show the error codes from ECU.

I owned one for 7 years. FC is about 11 to 12 km/l
I think you have faulty fuel gauge sensor in the fuel tank.
Always showing error volume of fuel like mine did.
Change it. About RM 160 at SC.
