It depends on your personal interest lah! If you really want 100% writing software, then apply for software engineer.

System engineer is more to support role and less on developing role. More or less like Customer Service Engineer.

Both have their own pros and cons. Depends which one you prefer. I would go for System Engineer first. You'll learn quite a lot of stuff. But the process of reaching to the top is quite slow.
