Ok, before comparing these two laptops, what is your max budget and considerable budget?

im just considering between these 2 models, both are in my budget
*
So your budget is within RM3999?

FYI, in terms of warranty service:

1. Illegear/Dell
2. Lenovo
3. MSI
4. Asus

Toshiba/HP/Acer uncertain

Seems you MUST choose between two, then I will not further comment. Most of them have give their best opinions. If you eventually go for Lenovo, storm88 currently has promotion, can buy from him, recommended seller. thumbup.gif

hmm, thanks for suggestion. do storm88 has any physical shop? going to buy new lappy within these few days
by the way u have other model which similar to what i want? can introduce also, know more learn more thumbup.gif
*
you can PM him for details

Other model are as followed, detail spec you can search online:

Asus N56JR (RM38XX): I7,GTX760M,12GB ram, back lit keyboard,FHD matte with wide angle, 2.1 speaker by sonic, maxx audio software

Illegear RE-15 (RM3599~RM4XXX): default I5,GTX765M,free dos,onkyo speaker,SBS software

ASUS may be worst in terms of warranty service, but spec is ok

Illegear offers fully customization, however, your desired configuration may lead to over budget.

My advice: what you usually do with your laptop?

gaming the most

Hardcore/basic/occasional gamer?

If you are hardcore (everything high/ultra setting) but you want under budget (<RM4k) then go to Lenovo Y510P dual SLI

If you are basic/occasional (medium to high) then you can go to other brand or Y510P single GC

i think im basic/occasional gamer, everything from medium to high is okay for me
is the y510p can add-on ssd to it instead of dual SLI? i am preferring ssd+hdd on it
*
No problem, you can have internal SSD + HDD bay or internal HDD + SSD bay. However, you need to take out default internal HDD and ask some switch to SSD or diy

For the latter, PLS DONT TRY YOURSELF, I know someone successfully did that.

RAM and hard disk should not be a consider factor when buying notebook as these part can be replace easily
rather CPU & GPU should be given a more consider role as these part cannot be replace and it will stick together with the notebook until you change a new notebook.

my suggest is always go for the latest Intel i7 and the best GPU that you can get.
*
CPU and GPU also can be replaced, but need to depend on socket or solder, if soldered then cant be replaced or upgraded

unless you are referring to brand like Sager or Illegear which the budget exceed a normal person need.

plus you need to have MXM module type of notebook in order to have these part to be replace, compatibility is also another issue face by many people.

so choosing the right CPU & GPU is very important when buying notebook.
*
You are right. From what i know, GTX770M and above (MXM module) can be switched, not sure GTX765M is soldered or MXM.

For CPU, intel I7 or I5 should be more than enough. Unless some gamers prefer high/ultra setting then they may opt to I7 (online, multiplayer, cpu intensive games)

For budget tight "normal person need", I think they have no choice, bcs most of the laptop are with CPU and GPU soldered especially GPU. Future upgrade is unlikely. Lenovo Y500/Y510P is exceptional.

If <RM3k, the most can go is I7 + GT750M or AMD GPU
If RM3k~RM4k, the most will be I7 + GT750M/GT755M SLI or GTX765M

For compatible issue, this one cant avoid, expecially every year when there are new GPUs released. Next year is more extreme: GTX880M with 8GB!! not sure is 28nm or 20nm.

Hmm.. depends on what kind of games TS plays..

Most games I've seen stresses on the GPU much more than anything else. I'm still using first generation i7 and it's working fine.. what's killing me always is having to upgrade my graphics card.. has changed from GTX 275 > 275 SLi > 580 > 580 SLi > 780.... -.-

I would say as long as you have an i5 dual, you should be alright and try to opt for better graphics... correct me if i'm wrong.
*
you so rich, every graphic card with middle number not "7" then "8"

better combination is I7 + GTX?80M for always high/ultra settings

Don't need to buy brand new. /gg

You would be surprise how cheap these cards go for once the new generation is out. I bought the 275 when there was 480 already.. and my 580 when there was 680..

The only one I burnt for is the 780, but that's just recently and during the price drop due to competition from AMD.

You must also take note at what resolution the laptop will be having. In the case of the Y510p and GE60, it's at FullHD, so you'll need a little more grunt than normal. Scaling down is bad no matter how you see it.
*
You buy those cards via ebay or Amazon right?

For me screen issue is not that important, unless can have Apple screen installed. HAHA tongue.gif

I prefer overall performance, e.g. I7 + GTX770M, good cooling, backlit keyboard, good audio system, good connection, FHD matte/non-glossy etc. I plan to use for 3~4 yrs if can more than that is better. Upgrade or not I dont think applicable for me bcs technology keep improving, 28nm then 22nm next may be 1? nm.

Instead of gaming, most people use laptop for online, entertainment or may be slightly rendering. They may think: as long as it doesnt lack then ok. I quite satisfied with my studio 1555 bcs after 4 yrs it still serves me well, just cant play games anymore. USB transfer rate makes me surprise bcs under USB 2.0, I can get steady 20+ MB/s (large files size) for Windows 8. smile.gif

lastly i took gp60 considering the games i'll played + main function of the laptop...basically i prefer all-new msi gp60 & ge60 bcoz it is bundled with i7-4800MQ 2.7GHz....with the same retail price...
*
So your GP60 is only with 4700MQ?

First thing need to check: USB 3.0 connect/disconnect issue for Win 8. I just had it on 1 port with Seagate portable harddisk

nono my plan is GE60 not GP60...

y510p vs GE60 which 1 better cooling system?
as i use my lappy more than 20hour a day

currently with dell studio xps 1645 temp reach almost 70 under aircon room
*
Before that, what usually you do with your laptop?

4800QM is for users who demand more on cpu intensive task, 4700MQ is enough for normal use.

Great ! But do you know roughly it will be available in Msia? Currently i am using Toshiba and it has been with me for 5 years, repair-free. Initially i wanted to buy Toshiba again but it doesn't meets my requirement. Qosmio (out of budget), satellite (specs low). My toshiba cannot play D2 ><
*
Official announcement for 800M series is next week, some of the GT, GE and GS series have been refreshed with 800M series GPU in China, for Malaysia to have stock, as usual, may be after 1~2 months sales in China in my opinion.

this is the link:

You can find some thread inside this forum showing new units.

FYI, this website is all written in Chinese language, but you can use Google Translate as well. They also have snapshots for those refreshed units, price is quite good including the specs. Meanwhile, Malaysia sets is expensive and more basic specs, really unfair to us. sweat.gif

So if I buy y510p now and when the 800series release, can I install it thru the Ultrabay ?
*
Nope, bcs 755M and 860M are different GPUs, plus, no news for Y50 that will be featured with ultrabay, most probably it will be single GTX860M only.
