QUOTE(AlexNg87 @ Sep 17 2014, 03:04 PM) Wow that awesome bro dint know ur marry by the way hahahahaha!!! lol, after some research, I'm planning to get some angular bearing as it could handle more axial stress from a lever drag reel, normal bearing just can't fully utilize the drag as handle start to bind/ heavy to crank with about 60% drag setting, same shit goes to tiagra 16 also it started to bind around 80% drag setting. hopefully i could source these angular bearing before next week once come to family fishing always come last, tu la selalu hook up monster!! hahaha hope u can get a new bearing and show us some Monster @ sg besar.. as for monster.. no comment bro lol . This is my first trip with this new tekong not sure if he'll bring me go holland or not or golden spot. stay tune for reports, goin out on a 3 day 2 nite trip on 3rd~5th. |

QUOTE(katsumoto2011 @ Oct 6 2014, 01:59 PM) you interested in ? hehehhe there's 2 type of tekong/ captain, one knows what's he's doing, know what time fish gonna go frenzy. Another is.. you pay for aimless cruising around the open sea. Those who keep changing spot generally don't know what he doing. If you can get fish with the latter tekong consider yourself very lucky liou wooden boat still ok lah , travel speed not fast if on speed boat when captain keep fishing spot then jialat loh for bottom a good tekong wont simply change spot.. most probably change only 2~3 spot throughout the trip. That's why jigging fellas hate these kind of boat. Anyway based on my observation for bottom fishing, generally fish goes on feeding frenzy mode during change of tide. Within that 10~20min u'll get load of bite. After that window, maybe can get few stray fish. |

QUOTE(katsumoto2011 @ Oct 6 2014, 03:11 PM) Tu pasal i say, tekong who frequent change places doesn't know what he's doing or under pressure from newbies who know nothing about tide. The same water area share the same tide table, go where also same, fish not on frenzy mode, biggies memang wont bite mia, exception for those small gelama and other smaller not edible coral fish example, 12:30 am change tide. 5am change tide. 1) 6pm camp spot A, no fish bite till 9pm, tekong change spot 2) 10pm reach camp spot B, no bite till 12am, change spot again. 3) reach camp spot C @ 1am. You miss the frenzy and endup getting 1 or 2 stray fish. 4) camp till 4am, you see no fish, tell tekong to change spot again. 5) reach spot D at 6am. again you miss the frenzy and getting hits from stray. if camp on spot A or spot B until 1am and camp on spot c until 6am you get higher chance to fully load your ice box with fish hehhehe. *provided the spot is a honey pot la. |

QUOTE(katsumoto2011 @ Oct 6 2014, 03:42 PM) if change tide no bite you also camp lah ? a) During change tide no bite, then another determining factor is the water current type, cold current minimal bite, warm current frenzy bite. Will i camp on, well it depends, I might call it a unlucky day and head back if change place you can confirm next spot wont get fish even if it not changing current time ? b) Based on my observation, yeap, no bite from biggies , mostly bite from those with no commercial value. Example, gelama, nurse shark, eel, coral fish. If lucky might get 1or 2 stray snapper or grouper, that all. btw when I say frenzy, I mean all ppl on the boat will get a hook up during that specific window. Total chaos, you land one after one. QUOTE(LV-strom @ Aug 14 2015, 09:02 AM) forgotten something............ hmm from a bottom perspective...mounting a baitcaster to a surf rod is wrong becoz a baitcaster usually have a low line capacity when you compare it to a surf spinning reel. hmmm how about I mount a " multiplier reel " on a surf rod. multiplier reels are like baitcaster only bigger and higher line capacity. there are two type of multiplier reels though......three if you wanna include electic reels!!! multiplier reels comes in two type star drag and lever drag. like everything in the world nothing is perfect. you want a powerful reel that's strong enough to fight fish that weight way over 100kg. you'll loose the ability to cast further. Lever drag reels are powerful reels but seriously hard to use. since its made tough to handle hard fighting fish such as kingfish and thresher shark every part of that reel are made with stronger parts even its spool are made with a heavier and more solid steel. which is also the reason why lever drag reels sucks at casting. another cons is that lever drag reels usually come in right handed........no to say there aren't any left handed lever drag......there are.........its just difficult to find. anyway.......from review......one lever drag reels that I would recommend is shimano TLD 2 speed..... ![]() multiplier reels are something like a baitcaster only larger and has a higher line capacity which is why its a recommended reel if you are planning to do surf fishing. multiplier reels usually comes with a line guider. um.....from what I heard those line guider aren't meant to handed strong pressure. anyway with or without the line guider wouldn't make any different in casting. since every multiplier reels comes with the level wind. when you talk about baitcasters......one point that everyone always ask is the type of braking system that that reel had. for multipliers its usually comes with centrifugal braking system. now centrifugal braking system could be bad or good. my banax GMC braking system.......sucks. one website said that abu Garcia ambassaduer 7000i can cast far very well......but I haven't got the time or money to test that fact out yet so can't say.....! 1) Lever drag is not hard to use, usually people use them mainly for bottom or vertical jigging. In fact it's darn convenient, getting bait down to sea bed is so much simpler. Set drag and let ya line sink all the way down. With star drag you may need to use your finger to control the descend speed of your bait where you could get a cut on ya thumb. 2) Lever drag sucks at casting ? perhaps you should try first. Lever drag can do over 20 sec free spool spinning, example my talica 16 and tiagra 16. But not on my star drag torium 30 and saltist 40 as they could only do under 10 or 15 sec. 3) Level wind is troublesome just as you said, more parts for maintenance. Not recommend for bottom. In fact the level wind could be a hindrance when hooked a big mama stingray. 4) Both of my lever drag reel does not have any sort of brakes. The only lever drag reel which had brake should be shimano torsa. 5) Talk about drag/ stopping power, on star drag reel , it's drag tend to fade when fight is prolonged especially with those shimano dartanium drag washer. On lever drag you have a bigger surface area carbon fiber washer, drag pretty consistent throughout the fight with no power fading issue. 6) On lever drag reel, you preset your preferred drag on "strike", during fish fight you''ll be using the "strike" , if it's too much just back down 1 or 2 click, if too less up 1 or 2 click. While on star drag you wont be able to know your drag setting and during fight, user have the tendency to set the drag too much which could end up with straighten hook. 7) I wouldn't recommend a TLD as it's slow bulky and heavy. Nowadays, a Talica would be a better choice. This post has been edited by nicotine: Sep 3 2015, 12:41 PM |
