guys, can please recommend me a rod and reel for beginner fresh water fishing?
If possible, enough to fish tilapias to haruan can already. Dont want too many rods and reel. hopefully one will do. budget around rm500+- for fishing set. (set aside rm100 for some hooks and weights, lines) looking at "BOSSNA-ARREAT-3000" at the moment with no rods to go with. Or maybe i should just get something lower will do? |

QUOTE(fookie @ May 27 2015, 03:20 PM) jumping frog tak ada ka? Anyway, now very heng itu rubber frog. Should try it. thank you!![]() 500+ can get you a very good rod and reel. Try rodford ryojin 2000 and pair it with a viper venom rod. Should cost you around RM400. will go and do some research on it. btw, does it matter with the amount of bearings on the reel? some range from 1 to 3, while some comes up to 10. |

help help~~
i recently bought a beginner rod and reel. pair it up with 30lbs braided line. everytime i cast, sure got fried meehoon flying out. so i remove the line and re-reel. got better after a few cast. then whenever i cast further than the previous 1, it will come back again. is there any incompatibility issue? or i have to tie a weight, and cast as far as possible several times to break in? |

QUOTE(inv @ May 5 2016, 10:05 AM) Usually break in are not needed. I suspect that you may have spooled it wrongly. Go search for some spoiling guide in YouTube to find out the correct way to spool a reel. So the best thing to do now is re-spool, rite. Later will take go respool and test this. Sunday. But actually i already respool once. |

QUOTE(1dollar @ May 5 2016, 05:51 PM) WHen you said bihun fly out,.. meaning a bunch lines messed up after you cast outside of your spool ? Bihun on stuck on your rod ? At first very terrible. So i reduced line. Got better.but still have after casting several further than before distance. I will yry reduce line again. THat is one indication that your you have over spool or too much line. Leave 2mm space on your spool level. QUOTE(FireIceCombo @ May 6 2016, 04:15 PM) dunno bro but i read on the signboard is daytime happy hour. maybe next 1-2 months if i do go i take pic for u. I am using the following: with a 7feet rod. option 1 - cheapest option remove spool, soak in hot boiling water for 1-2 minutes. add big heavy weight and start casting 10-20 times. ok liao ba. last time when i play with nylon also usually will chau mai fun . now nylon is for make as leader string. FG knot with my braided best dowhhh huhu . option 2 - expensive option change to mono or braided. wont have such chau mai fun issue. [attachmentid=6580692] [attachmentid=6580696] This is braided? The one i use on my friend is "cloth line" he said. But i dun think its braided. Not like mine at all. His is colourful. Very soft. Looks really like cloth. What are those? His line when cast, very smooth. Very quiet. *i bought 200m. i think i still have around 50m on hand, and several m's on a bottle. This post has been edited by alpha33: May 6 2016, 08:13 PM |

QUOTE(vioxmonsta @ May 8 2016, 03:32 AM) PE = Poly Ethylene, its also a chart for line's diameter. Exp: thanks for the "conversion" rate. but tis also meant my reel was not over spooled.PE 0.6 =0.128mm PE 0.8 =0.148mm PE 1 =0.165mm braided PE line that malaysia's tackle store carry are mostly base on dyneema or spectra filament lines Dyneema brands = YGK,Yarivas,Duel, sufix etc etc Spectra brands = powerpro, tuf line, sufix etc etc Not to forget some ultra dyneema from "sunline & ygk" Get some various weight casting plugs to polish your casting skills. Practice makes perfect since i have two rods/reels to test, the problem only exist on my rod. so i dun think should be casting skills bah... nm. later i will be going again, this time will take a weight and cast kao kao far and soften the line see. *i took some line out, holding up free hand from ground, it can even twist together. any idea? |

QUOTE(FireIceCombo @ Jun 1 2016, 12:19 AM) Average 50m bottom, my recommendation for no skill ppl is 8000 reel, 3:6 mh rod, 60-80lbs braid 90 lead twin hook or Sam char ngau if u empty handed for an hour. No Apollo. Who invented Apollo should be shot dead. what is that Apollo in concern? With heavy gear u can bottom up with less effort. Easiest still electric reel but beastmaster still expensive. I wish I can beastmaster also sigh. Can only dream. and why should he be dead?newbie here too. |

QUOTE(swks26 @ Jun 19 2016, 06:23 AM) QUOTE(FireIceCombo @ Jun 21 2016, 06:16 PM) soron is good stuff. i think among soron range is shimano stradic. u can ask around in kepong tackle. i remember they carry soron and stradic. any particular model of stradic? i try to find and see.i didnt go stradic cause i went atc valiant and still working good. i feel valiant is good bang for buck. if i not mistaken no more valiant now is go valour or something like that. max drag is important to me. so i went with atc got higher max drag and yet still smoothness without the $$$$$ coming out of poket. i am in ipoh too bad. cant find the soron in ipoh. |

update: Using soron stx40 + my 7 feet rod very smooth. So problem lies with my altitude 4000 reel.
Now the shopkeeper tell me, that reel cannot cast far and hard one. This is for sea water fishing. where you sit on boat, let go your line. Thats why your line spool so deep ma...(that was not what he told me in the first place when i get this reel!) so now, since this reel dun have spare spool, can we find one spool and mod it into it?something with the same diameter, but shallow-er spool. got such thing?else this reel is gonna go to waste. reel in discussion. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

hey guys, need some recommendation.
recently went to paid ponds to fish, and hooked some unknown fish. it managed to pull out all my line. despite drag already tightened to max, its still able to pull out. is there something wrong with my reel? (friend said it might be a big mekong, i dunno. been using it for some rohu and haruan mostly.) reel: soron STX40 line: some unknown brand braided 30lbs rod: 8 feet line and hook did not snap, just the drag unable to hold. |
