the phrase " what's really out there " is what i'm gonna write in today.

I've been fishing teluk batik for years. even though I've caught the same fish species over and over again. it still doesn't change the fact that there is more than meets the eye. think I'm wrong? a month ago I saw a malay uncle pull in a juvenile sickle fish. the most interesting part is when I asked them what did he caught, he said ikan baru!! no shit......its not that you moron have no idea what you just caught. is that you goon never even seen this kind of fish before. what do you moron know other than hey i'm gonna catch me some fish to feed my family of 6 tonight. you sob, one of this day you moron gonna die becoz you ate poisonous fish...... vmad.gif. god's way of punishing human who took more than they should!! anyway sickle fish, threadfin, goatee croaker, monkfish, flounder.......dude!!! what else do you have living in those water?

that thread fin was caught about 15-20m from me. my casting record using daiwa lexa 100 mounted on a 6 rod, 25lb monoline tied to a 10-15g bullet sinker is 30m. for the record oblong sinker have a higher casting distance..........I think. my point is casting further doesn't always mean that there are more fish there than the area closer to the beach. most of the time you get bubkes. anyway i'm talking about casting up to 30m, what if you can cast beyond that. on a field I can swing 90m max with either daiwa or pinnacle inertia mounted on a medium action 6ft rod. at the beach however its a whole different story. this is why it still bothers me.....the idea of not knowing what out there, what can you catch when you hit 90m.

hmm.gif

oh by the way......sabiki rig sucks. and bringing another rod along for the trip won't make any different in the amount of fish you caught that day. its a wasted of time and effort.

at my state now, hitting that 90m spot is rather difficult. should have swing for an abu Garcia ambassaduer 7000i instead of daiwa lexa. T.T
multiplier reel are so expensive..........and hard to find. that abu Garcia ambassaduer 5400 cost about rm540 the last I check. T.T so bloody expensive

this is me trolling : hey look a fish just bit my hook. oooo wow its a "xnet fish". biggrin.gif

QUOTE(Xnet @ Oct 24 2015, 09:23 PM)
First off if you so kok sure its sickle fish why ask? You some kind of troll?
*
simple coz I can't really tell what they've caught becoz its in their hand waiting for its hook to be removed. so I asked. but it turns out its a stupid idea! becoz its like trying to ask a dog what time it is! anyway I've only manage to identify the fish when they put it into their cooler box.......dead. wasted.....such a small sickle fish only half of a frying pan's size. they do grow bigger than. the largest I saw was 1 and a half time bigger than a dinner plate. it was on the fishmonger table.......

what you think of that answer so far.

QUOTE(Xnet @ Oct 24 2015, 09:23 PM)

i'm bored.........

guess i'll just write something here.

5 fish that I can catch on my own which I don't want in my tank.

whitting

user posted image

they got the tendency to commit suicide by jumping out of the tank.

oh hey um that fish that Chinese love a lot. the one they call it suit yu......cod fish. yeah that's not really a cod fish. they are just marketed as black cod. Those are actually sablefish (Anoplopoma fimbria) from the Anoplopoma genus. they are one of two member species of fish in the Anoplopomatidae family. they are a species of deep sea common to the north pacific ocean. anyway cod fish are actually the type of fish commonly used to make cod's liver oil . now.......cod are actually fish that belong to the gagidae family which include whiting, Pollock, husk and a few others. cod are fish that inhabits cold deep water of the north pacific ocean similar to that of sablefish.

killers....
jarbua terapon

user posted image

annoying fish in the sea, top bait stealer too. i hate them but not as much as pufferfish thought.......... hmm.gif
horrible tank specimen.........

Green Rough-backed Puffer my no 1 enemy!!

user posted image

they don't do well in captivity. since they only eat live prawn. they most likely died after a week either from starving or infection.

oh here's another fun fact.......pufferfish.....are fish that can puff up when threaten. every fools(not include marine biologist or some anglers who actually give a shit about the fish they catch) on this godforsaken planet knows that. but what you ignorant fools don't know is that pufferfish are........... hmm.gif how should I explained this. hmm.gif the name pufferfish are actually a common name for a species of fish. that name actually refer to the ability to puff up when threaten or stressed which they possessed. and there are 3 family of fishes that are capable of doing so. they are Diodontidae , Tetraodontidae and Triodontidae. this three families also belong to a order call Tetraodontiformes which also include triggerfish, deepwaterboxfish, ocean sunfish, filefish, triplespine, spikefish and boxfish. i'm sure you ignorant fools knows that they also possessed highly potent neurotoxin that once ingested you'll be dead in minutes. thumbup.gif

so far I've caught 4 different species belong to the tetraodontiformes order. other than that one mention above.
the other 3 are :

spotted pufferfish tetraodon nigroviridis
user posted image
hehehe this are actually my top favourite pufferfish. cute little guy. this are actually brackish water fish, which is why you can purchased them in fresh water aquarium shop. they do better in marine environment though.

milk spotted puffer fish Chelonodon patoca
I wonder if I got this one rite. hmm.gif
user posted image
this can be caught in penang beach. I've have one in tank 4 yrs ago. interesting fish!!!! it.....other than puffing up, it actually burrow itself in the sand at night. fish time I caught this was with a cast net.

triple spine fish Triacanthus biaculeatus
user posted image
small mouth, long spine, toothy fish.......yeah they actually have tooth like those of a sheephead fish. their spine are harmless by the way.

part deux of the fish that I can caught my self but I never want in my tank.

siganus oramin

cousin of the foxface and rabbitfish
this can be caught using casting net. although you might want to be careful when handling them. their spine don't look like much. but it hurt like hell once you got prick by it.

Longtail silver-biddy (Gerres longirostris) I call them sand bream.
user posted image

boring to kept as a pet T.T

ponyfish
user posted image
they are a quite nice to keep in a tank. peaceful fish......but very easily stressed. once its stressed it'll stop eating and died T.T
better to release them back to the sea.

catfish.......
another stupid fish that doesn't do anything other that sit there like a piece of rock.

javelin grunter pomadasys kaakan
user posted image
not a fan of grunter or croaker family fish. they are just another silver fish. for what its worth they do taste better than sand bream though.

sin croaker johnius dussumieri
user posted image
easily stress. doesn't feed in captivity. all in all a pieces of junk.

tubemouth whipray Himantura lobistoma
user posted image
.........you need a very large tank for them. they can be caught at night in penang. guarantee!!

snapper.......so far I've caught 2 species of lutjanus genus fish. snapper are very colourful fish to be kept as pet but they are prone to saltwater ich and you can't keep a cleanshrimp with them. so yeah its a waste of time too to keep them.

lutjanus lutjanus
user posted image
small snappers they don't grow any larger than 18cm

Lutjanus fulviflamma black spotted snapper.
user posted image
the last time I had this. it ate my cleaner shrimp. you SOB THAT'S A RM30 SHRIMP YOU JUST ATE!!! vmad.gif

Should be called turtle.. this normal type http://www.backwaterreptiles.com/turtles/r...e-for-sale.html

I love fishing especially sea fishing and although I've forgotten most of the fishes names, I just love the laid back fishing life... It's been a few years since I last fish.

There's a fishing kopitiam forum you know right?
*
yeah yeah you can get this like 5 ringgint in a pet shop.

hehehe glad to meet another fishing enthusiast ^^

no I do not. but since people hate me here. I doubt anyone would like me there.

um I don't mean to be rude but are you really a girl.

I like girls. and meet a girl who like fishing is like trying look for a needle in haystack ^^

i remember i once posted this

there are no rite and wrong when it comes to fishing.

i just found a site that proved my point.
http://www.seabreeze.com.au/Articles/Fishi...ng_3701722.aspx

point 4

you don't really need a 14ft rod with a surf spinning reel mounted on it. a baitcaster mounter on a 6 ft rod is good enough for me. ^^

hey no hard feeling. i'm not saying surf spinning reel sucks but those are beginners toys. me, I prefer baitercaster more than spinning. and I do think they cast better and further. backlashes...........well with spinning you'll line twist so I quess they are even on that.

anyway I wonder should I spend another 500+ ringgit on that abu Garcia ambassadeur 5600 c4. its more expensive than my lexa thought. should have just bought that abu Garcia ambassadeur in the first place T.T this is Malaysia and not Auckland though. majorities of the fish I caught can hardly put up any fight. so spending 500+ ringgit for a reel to catch craps? yeah yeah yeah I know bought that lexa for 500+ ringgit too.....! now shut up!

In Auckland. There are a lot formidable fish species there. starting with the the most common would be kahawai , snapper, gurnard, kings etc. run of the mill fishing gear ain't strong enough to fight them. the best part is.......all this fish can be caught of pier, wharf, beach... hmm.gif.....kahawai and brownies maybe. recently I rad a report that someone actually caught a dolphin fish or mahi mahi at the beach call st Helier. st Helier is a name of the second beach after mission bay.

T.T it so farking hard to catch carangidae family fish. T.T

even harder to bring it back in a healthy state.

recently I found out that there are actually two fish in Malaysia that's marketed as bawal emas.

one is Trachinotus blochii which is snubnose pompano.
user posted image

and this Trachinotus falcatus the permit.
user posted image

here's how you tell the diffent. although its easier if you just keep in mind that the one with yellow tail and fin is a pompano. the one without is a permit.
user posted image

now here's another fact that most people don't know.

regard to the way Malaysian name their fish.

black pomfret - bawal hitam
white pomfret - bawal putih
Chinese silver pomfret - bawal tambak
bumpnose trevally - bawal cermin
snubnose pompano - bawal emas

fish that looks alike doesn't always meant that they are from the same family or are they related.
here's why.

black pomfret ( Parastromateus niger ) , snubnose pompano ( trachinotus blochii ) and bumpnose trevally ( Carangoides hedlandensis ) are actualy species of fish belonging to the carangidae family. they are not pomfret.

white pomfret ( Pampus argenteus ) and Chinese silver pomfret ( pampus chinensis ) on the other hand is a true pomfret from the family species of fish call stromateidae.......this category of fish also related to the butterfish.

i'm too lazy to post up their pick. you numbnuts just google them yourself kay!

and yes this is also one of the few carangidae family fishes that I dying to have in my tank. what can I say I got a thing for yellow tails.
